September 2008 Page 1 of 12 MOTHER LODE CHAMBER OF MINES OF EASTERN BRITISH COLUMBIA A non-profit bureau of information providing authentic, reliable data to the General public and the mining industry of Eastern British Columbia 215 Hall Street, Nelson, B.C. V1L 5X4 Phone: (250) 352-5242 chamberofmines@netidea.com NEWSLETTER Note: The views of contributors to this newsletter do not necessarily reflect the views of the Chamber September 2008 President’s Report The Chamber has been very busy in the last month, we had two meetings dealing with Mountain Caribou and the new Conservancy on Darkwoods land. If you own mineral claims in Caribou habitat, you should read last month’s Motherlode and click the links to be informed. Pat Field of Nature Conservancy Canada came to the Chamber and talked about their plans for the Darkwoods land. We invited all claim owners within Darkwoods land to attend. My impression is, that it’s business as usual within the Conservancy, keeping in mind that they are managing for conservation values and we are trying to explore for mineral deposits for the benefit of the people of B.C. and of course ourselves as mineral claim owners. The meeting with Pat went well and everybody had a chance to ask questions. The Chamber thanks Pat for giving us a talk and slide show of their plans. Minerals South is coming up on Nov 4-7th here in Nelson, and we have been busy organizing. We are pleased to announce the short course will be by Dr. Jeremy Richards on Porphyry deposits with help from Chris Lawley on the Max Moly porphyry. With the short course lined up, the rest of the conference is coming together nicely. Scroll to the final page for the registration form, print it out, fill it out and mail it to us with a cheque. The conference & trade show will have the Porphyry short course on Nov 4th, followed by two days of talks by Government and industry on Nov 5-6th and then your choice of two field trips on Nov 7th. One field trip is to the operating Max molybdenum mine owned by Roca Mines, (the first new metal mine in B.C. in a decade) and the other field trip is to the historic Granite Poorman (Kenville) mine, which is currently being explored on surface and underground with drilling by Anglo Swiss Resources. The Granite Poorman has gold, copper and tungsten targets as well as industrial mineral byproducts. The trade show is from Nov 5-6th where government and industry will have maps, drill core and pamphlets describing their projects. The trade show is open to the public and we will have some displays of gold panning, gemstone/crystals of B.C. and fossils to broaden the public interest. If you have good specimens of B.C. gemstones/crystals/fossils you are willing to display, please contact the Chamber. We are very happy to see the Federal Government (TGI-3) and Geosciencebc have provided funding for a geophysical survey to be flown over the most productive section of the southern Kootenay Arc. We hope preliminary data will be available at Minerals South. . MINING: GOOD NEIGHBOUR AND PROVIDER TO THE WORLD www.cmebc.com September 2008 Geoscience BC Announces Airborne Geophysical Survey in Kootenay Area Page 2 of 12 Geoscience BC, in partnership with Dajin Resources Corp. and Sultan Minerals Inc., is funding an airborne geophysical survey in southeast British Columbia starting in mid-September. The survey is designed to provide new geoscience information to help further our understanding of the mineral potential of this historic mining camp. Fugro Airborne Surveys will fly this $542,000 time-domain electromagnetic survey over a 609 square kilometer area that stretches from Nelson to the US border, using a helicopter with sensing instruments suspended below the aircraft. The survey will commence on September 15th and run until approximately November 15th. "The aim of the survey is to provide new geoscience information to help attract additional mineral exploration investment into this region and its communities," said 'Lyn Anglin, President and CEO of Geoscience BC. "Similar surveys in central British Columbia have led to an improved understanding of the region's geology and increased industry investment, and we're confident that this survey will do the same for the Kootenays." The Kootenay area is highly prospective for base metal deposits such as lead-zinc, tungsten skarns and copper-gold porphyries, and was rated by the BC Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources as having some of the highest mineral potential in British Columbia. The survey area includes the historic Jersey, HB and Reeves-Macdonald mines which were the second, third and fourth largest lead-zinc producers in the province. The survey also covers the historic Emerald tungsten mine -- Canada's second largest tungsten producer, the Sheep Creek gold camp and the Ymir gold camp. The airborne survey will provide geologists with information about the rocks well below the surface, which will in turn help to identify exploration targets. The survey will complement other geoscience projects operating in the region, many of which have been coordinated as part of Natural Resources Canada's TGI-3 program. Results of the survey will be incorporated in Natural Resources Canada's databases and will be available for free in spring 2009 through Natural Resources Canada and Geoscience BC's websites. Images of the data will also be posted on the Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources' MapPlace website. Geoscience BC is an industry-led, industry-focused not for profit society. Its mandate includes the collection, interpretation and marketing of geoscience data and expertise to promote investment in resource exploration and development in British Columbia. Geoscience BC works in partnership with industry, academia, government, First Nations and communities to attract mineral and oil & gas investment to BC. For more information on QUEST-West and other Geoscience BC projects, please see Geoscience BC's website at www.geosciencebc.com. For more information, please contact: Geoscience BC 'Lyn Anglin President and CEO (604) 290-1194 www.geosciencebc.com Ulrich Mattern and his son came into the chamber and donated a wonderful collection of exotic mineral specimens. Two of their favorites are Edingtonite and Hackmannite that they found in the Ice River complex. Below is a pic with Ulrich holding a sample of white Hackmannite. He showed us that when you expose Hackmannite to ultraviolet light it turns pink and stays pink until you expose it to sunlight and the pink fades away. We showed the colour changing rock to kids in the chamber and they were fascinated. The sample is a great addition for our school classes that visit the chamber. The Chamber thanks Ulrich and his son for donating the excellent collection of specimens. MINING: GOOD NEIGHBOUR AND PROVIDER TO THE WORLD www.cmebc.com September 2008 Page 3 of 12 The Chambers report This month I’d like to bring to your attention one of the other attractions of the Chamber of Mines in Nelson B.C. We are blessed to have some 50 odd Engineering and Mining Journals donated to us in the past. I have been going through them, marveling over the equipment at the apex of the steam age. There are dozens of picture ads for everything from hand tools to ball mills. For those of us who like to restore old machinery, pictures and company information is important and hard to find. What’s also a large bonus is some of the adverts tell us what companies use their products. Of course the bulk of reference is to the U.S. as the journals are printed in New York. There are frequent mentions of local mines and other locality’s in Canada; all in all, we would have been supplied by the U.S. anyway! As you may well know supplies to the area were delivered by paddle Wheelers or buy Train from the U.S. These journals have a wealth of information like stock reports, Write‐ups on mines and their geology, and new mining and processing techniques for the era. Come on in and view the collection Donations Doug Armstong donates: The most regular welcomed visitor in the Chamber, has donated two wonderful books this month. The best miners in the world “Stories from Canada’s Sullivan Mine” by W.R. (BILL) Roberts And Canada Rocks “the Geologic Journey” by Nick Eyles and Andrew Miall Thank you Doug the Chamber has a need for updated geologic and Historic books Geoge Addie donates: 6 Gold prospector Magazine’s for our quick visitor’s good reading!! Thank you George for your kind donation. See you next month Dennis McLeod, Chamber Administrator FJORDLAND EXPLORATION INC.: PHASE 2 DRILLING COMPLETED AT SOUTHEAST ZONE DISCOVERY OF WOODJAM COPPER-MOLYBDENUM-GOLD PROPERTY, BRITISH COLUMBIA Fjordland Exploration Inc. and Cariboo Rose Resources Ltd.'s 2008 phase 2 drilling on their newly discovered Southeast zone on the Woodjam project, located in the road-accessible Cariboo region of central British Columbia, has been completed as planned. During the month of August, 2008, Cyr Drilling completed approximately 2,500 meters in six holes. The holes were planned to follow up on the very encouraging results from previous limited drilling, for example, hole WJ-08-83, which graded 0.44 per cent copper, 0.006 per cent molybdenum and 0.079 gram per tonne (g/t) gold over 402 metres, including 0.8 per cent copper, 0.003 per cent molybdenum and 0.123 g/t gold over 71.93 metres. All holes were collared in excess of 100-metre step-outs. To date, 15 vertical holes totalling in excess of 6,000 metres have now been completed on the Southeast zone over a strike length of approximately 1,000 metres, within a 1.5-kilometre-long induced polarization chargeability anomaly. Twelve of the 15 holes were grid drilled in an area of 500 metres by 300 metres. All holes intersected mineralization from the bedrock interface to the end of each hole, with hole 08-82 intersecting 571 metres of mineralization to a depth of 700 metres. Analytical results from this phase of drilling in the Southeast zone will be released as soon as all are received. This drilling on the Southeast zone as well as the historical results from the Megabuck zone have recently garnered a great deal of interest in the Woodjam project. Drilling of selected induced polarization chargeability anomalies believed to be copper-gold targets is continuing, including one on the Takom zone and two on the Deerhorn anomaly. Drilling is expected to continue until the end of the month. Core samples have been submitted to Acme Analytical Laboratories, a certified facility in Vancouver, B.C. Bruce Laird, PGeo, of Mincord Exploration Consultants Ltd., is supervising the 2008 drilling program and sampling protocol. Tom Schroeter, PEng/PGeo, who is a qualified person within the context of National Instrument 43-101, has read and takes responsibility for this news release. www.stockwatch.com FEX MINING: GOOD NEIGHBOUR AND PROVIDER TO THE WORLD www.cmebc.com S September 20008 Page 4 of 112 Klondiike Silverr to start delivery d o Sandon of n concenttrate CO ONCENTRAT TE SHIPMEN NTS BEGIN Klond dike Silver Co orp. has received approval from a smeltter to begin shipment of th he concentrate e held in n inventory att the Sandon mill near New w Denver, B.C C. The survey will cover a 609‐square‐kilometre area centered on Sultan's 93‐square‐kilometre Jersey‐Emerald tungsten, molybdenum and lead‐zinc property. The B.C. Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources has rated this area as having some of the highest mineral potential in British Columbia. The survey is therefore designed to provide information about the rocks deep below the surface, in order to identify new exploration targets well beyond the limits of the historic mines. Lyn Anglin, president and chief executive officer of Geoscience B.C., said: "The aim of the survey is to provide new geoscience information to help attract additional mineral exploration investment into this region and its communities. Similar surveys in central British Columbia have led to an improved understanding of the region's geology and increased industry investment, and we're confident that this survey will do the same for the Kootenays." The survey will be flown by Fugro Airborne Surveys and is expected to commence in mid‐September. The survey area includes Sultan's Jersey mine and the HB and Reeves‐Macdonald mines, these three being the second, third and fourth largest historic lead‐ zinc producers in the province. The survey also covers Sultan's historic Emerald Tungsten mine, Canada's second‐largest tungsten producer, as well as the famous Sheep Creek and Ymir gold camps. Sultan Minerals, as one of the largest mineral title landholders in the survey area, is also participating in the survey. Sultan is contributing to the project by financing the flying of intermediate 100‐metre‐spaced survey lines over its Jersey‐Emerald property within the Geoscience B.C. survey area. The detailed airborne geophysical coverage is expected to identify new exploration targets outside of the seven historic mines on Sultan's extensive property. www.stockwatch.com SUL DAJIN PARTNERS WITH GEOSCIENCE BC Dajin Resources Corp., in partnership with Geoscience B.C., is financing an airborne geophysical survey in southeast British Columbia starting in mid-September. Dajin has contributed to the project by the financing of tighter 100-metre line spacing over its entire Oscar project which is located five kilometres east of Ymir, B.C. The regional survey is designed to provide new geoscience information to help further understand the mineral potential of this historical mining region, while Dajin's tighter line spacing may provide a better delineation of known mineral deposits and crosscutting structures. Fugro Airborne Surveys has been contracted to fly this $542,000 time-domain electromagnetic survey, using a helicopter with sensing instruments suspended below the aircraft over a 609-square-kilometre area that stretches from Nelson to the U.S. border. Copper Ridge Explorations Inc. has mobilized a drill to its Joss'alun property, 80 kilometers southeast of Atlin, B.C. The drill program will test extensions to the original Joss'alun showing area as well as targets identified during a recently completed exploration program which included geochemical soil sampling and an induced polarization (IP) geophysical survey over the area of Box Lake showing on the adjacent Nak property, owned by Imperial Metals Corp. The Box Lake showing lies about two kilometers to the east-southeast of the original Joss'alun discovery. Both the Joss'alun and Nak properties are under option to Lomiko Resources Inc. and are known collectively as the Big Nak project, covering a total area of about 3,232 hectares. Lomiko is financing the project and Copper Ridge is operator. The initial Joss'alun copper discovery in 2002 was made by geologists from the B.C. Geological Survey. Claim staking and subsequent exploration programs by Copper Ridge and Imperial Metals led to a further three copper showings being discovered. The geological setting at Big Nak and the observed mineralization suggest a classic environment for sea floor volcanic massive sulphide (VMS) copper mineralization with accompanying footwall stringer mineralization and alteration. In 2003, a program of mapping, geochemical soil sampling and prospecting was carried out at Joss'alun by Imperial Metals followed by a core drilling program (nine NQ core holes for a total of 1,517 meters). The attached table shows a summary of significant drill results from the Joss'alun drilling which encountered semi-massive and stockwork sulphide mineralization. A subsequent IP survey showed a correlation between chargeability and the copper mineralized intervals. more at www.stockwatch.com KRX Kettle River drills 1.56 m of 80 g/t Au on Battle zone KETTLE RIVER NEWS-FINAL DRILL RESULTS Kettle River Resources Ltd. has received the final drill results from the company's 2008, 14-hole diamond drill program on its wholly owned Greenwood area properties. Bard Ventures Ltd. has received and interpreted the final assay results from drill holes BD-08-33 and BD-08-34 on its Lone Pine molybdenum property. BD-08-33 is located 80 meters southwest of drill hole BD-08-25. BD-08-34 is located 73 meters southwest of BD-08-29 and 100 meters northwest of BD-08-33. Please refer to the company's website for drill hole locations and additional information. The property is located approximately 15 kilometers north-northwest of Houston, B.C., and is situated in the Omineca mining division. SIGNIFICANT INTERVALS FOR DRILL HOLES BD-08-33 AND BD-08-34 Drill hole No. BD-08-33 including including BD-08-34 including including Total depth (m) From (m) To (m) 835.11 347.00 473.00 510.30 329.00 565.81 587.00 802.30 495.00 607.00 829.00 733.34 677.00 872.20 Interval (m) Mo (%) MoS2 (%) 455.30 22.00 96.70 500.00 167.53 90.00 0.10 0.18 0.14 0.08 0.12 0.15 0.17 0.30 0.23 0.13 0.20 0.25 These results confirm the continuation of the molybdenum mineralization within the alaskite intrusive and footwall andesites. Molybdenum was moderately to strongly visible in quartz stock work alaskite intrusive within both drill holes, with assays confirming the presence of high-grade molybdenum mineralization extending downdip to the southwest of drill holes BD-08-25 and BD-08-29. Geological interpretation is continuing. Hole BD-08-33 Drill hole BD-08-33, a vertical drill hole, was designed to further extend the high-grade molybdenum mineralization encountered in drill hole BD-08-25. The drill hole collared into andesite to 371 meters approximately, before encountering alaskite intrusive. The alaskite intrusive continued to depth to 802 meters approximately, before being shut down in the QFP pluton at 835.11 meters. The higher-grade portion of this drill hole has been confirmed to be an extension of the higher-grade molybdenum mineralization encountered 80 meters to the northeast in drill hole BD-08-25. The potential for continued higher-grade molybdenum mineralization downdip to the southwest remains favorable. Hole BD-08-34 Drill hole BD-08-34 was targeted as a continuation of the BD-08-33 drill fence and, more importantly, to target the alaskite intrusive molybdenum mineralization downdip of drill hole BD-08-29. BD-08-34 encountered andesite from collar to 281 meters approximately, before intersecting alaskite intrusive through to 818 meters. The drill hole was shut down in QFP pluton at 872.30 meters. Again, molybdenum mineralization was confirmed downdip at depth an additional 73 meters southwest of BD-08-29. The potential for continued higher-grade molybdenum mineralization downdip to the southwest remains favorable. www.stockwatch.com CBS MINING: GOOD NEIGHBOUR AND PROVIDER TO THE WORLD www.cmebc.com September 2008 Page 9 of 12 MINING: GOOD NEIGHBOUR AND PROVIDER TO THE WORLD www.cmebc.com August 2008 Page 10 of 12 DIAMOND DRILLING COMMENCES ON EAGLE PLAINS' BOHAN PROJECT A drill crew has been mobilized to Eagle Plains Resources Ltd.'s Bohan project located 20 kilometers (km) northeast of Creston, southeastern British Columbia. The 7,900-hectare property is 100 per cent owned by Eagle Plains and carries no underlying royalties or encumbrances. It is road accessible and favorably located with respect to hydropower and rail transportation infrastructure. A total budget for the program has been set at $400,000 and will consist of approximately 1,200 meters (m) (4,000 feet) in five to seven holes. The property hosts the Wilds Creek sedimentary exhalative (sedex)-type base-metal deposit, a historic (non-National Instrument 43-101-compliant) resource reported by Aho (1964) and published by the B.C. Geological Survey consisting of 136,000 tons grading 6 per cent zinc (though these estimates are considered by Eagle Plains to be relevant, their reliability has not been confirmed, but will constitute a target basis for future exploration work). The target areas are considered to have good potential to host additional sedex-type, base-metal mineralization. Drilling completed in 1990 and 1992 by previous operators returned values ranging from no significant results to 2.6 m grading 10.2 per cent zinc (Zn) (L90-1), 3.1 m grading 3.44 per cent Zn (L92-8), 2.3 m grading 9.94 per cent Zn (L92-9) and 3.1 m grading 3.55 per cent Zn (L92-10). The property overlies approximately 12 km of favorable stratigraphy and contains numerous untested prominent soil geochemical anomalies along its projected strike. The current drill program will target both the Wilds Creek resource area and at least one geochemical target located along strike. The current program will be carried out under the supervision of C.C. Downie, PGeo, identified as a qualified person under National Instrument 43-101. Update on other Eagle Plains projects Kalum (gold (Au), copper (Cu) and molybdenum (Mo)), Terrace, B.C. Diamond drilling is now under way on Eagle Plains's 100-per-cent-owned Kalum property located 30 km north of Terrace, B.C., financed and operated by option partner Mountain Capital Corp. Approximately 1,000 m (3,300 feet) of footage is planned to test targets developed earlier this season. Two thousand eight fieldwork included mapping, sampling and an induced polarization (IP) geophysical survey. Mackenzie Valley zinc project (Zn, lead (Pb) and silver (Ag)), Mackenzie Mountains, Northwest Territories Crews have completed 2008 fieldwork on the Mackenzie Valley zinc project (part of a partnership with Teck Cominco Ltd.) located 160 km west of Norman Wells, NWT. An average of 20 people per day carried out systematic exploration of the large project area since mid-June. Fieldwork consisted of ground geophysical surveys, soil and stream geochemical sampling, geological mapping and prospecting. Detailed ground geophysical (IP and electromagnetic) surveys were completed over select target areas. A total of 529 rock, 869 stream-sediment and 3,442 soil samples were collected throughout the course of the program. A $2.5-million budget has been allocated for this project with financing provided through equity financing by Teck-Cominco (see Eagle Plains news release in Stockwatch dated May 7, 2008). Results will be released as they are compiled and interpreted. Titan (Cu, Mo and Au), Atlin, B.C. Work on the property was carried out between July 21, and Aug. 22, and was financed by option partner XO Gold (a private B.C. company). Fieldwork included mapping, prospecting, soil and stream-silt geochemical sampling, and an infill airborne geophysical survey. The 2008 field program included 46 man days and saw the collection of 27 rock samples, 53 stream silt samples and 301 soil samples. Concurrent to the field program, a 195-line-kilometre airborne geophysical infill survey was completed bringing EM and magnetic coverage to 100 per cent of the property area. Total 2008 field and geophysical expenditures were approximately $175,000. Elsiar (Au, Cu and Mo); Terrace, B.C. Fieldwork has resumed on the property, located 30 km north of Terrace, B.C., financing by option partner Sandstorm Resources Ltd. (TSX-V: SSL). Crews commenced sampling activity in early July, but were restricted to lower elevations due to an unseasonably slow snow melt. Soil geochemical sampling will resume shortly, and follow-up mapping and sampling will be carried out in areas identified during earlier sampling. The budget for this season's work is $200,000.
