These students joined other students from Region 17 and attended a conference entitled “Bullying: It Ends With Me” at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center where they learned the negative effects of bullying and how they can train their classmates to avoid bullying at all costs. Guest presenter Dr. Eric Cupp conducted the workshop. He shared with the audience how bullying is increasing all across America. This conference provided a perfect opportunity for students to learn about bullying and the effects bullying has on their classmates and their school. Students learned how to address bullying and what they can do to help stop bullying in their school. After the conference, Willow Bend students shared what they learned: Jack Woodward: “I will use all of the tips to help and stop bullies and will make the world a better place. I don’t see bullying at our school but I do at home and I will tell them to think before you say. I’ve stopped my friend trying to make fun of another one of my friends. They are now becoming friends too.” Kaleb Salazar: “They told stories about how other people are bullying others, and told us how we can stop bullying by doing different things. They made us promise that we can stop or help Frenship vs Monterey stop bullying. I will help stop bullying all the time.” Friday, October 19 7:30 p.m. Lowrey Field, Lubbock Tickets - 866-4480 Sabastian Rosita: “I will tell them all the stuff I learned at the conference and make every school a better place to be, and also every where I go I will spread the word to different people so they may spread it to anybody else who is getting bullied. THE OAK RIDGE BOYS COME TOGETHER IN SUPPORT OF THEIR CHILDREN Oak Ridge students and their fathers had a tremendous showing during the National “Take Your Dad to School” day on Friday, September 28 with more than 300 dads participating. The dads spent time in their child’s classroom doing various activities. They then they all gathered in the cafeteria and were greeted by Principal Doug Smith and Assistant Principal Shane Langen. The dads received information about different volunteer opportunities available as well. Oak Ridge had a great response and had many dads immediately volunteer to give help in various places within the school. Thanks Oak Ridge dads! NORTH RIDGE STUDENTS JOIN THE LIBRARY LUNCH BUNCH North Ridge 5th graders enjoyed a new special club to promote reading called the Library Lunch Bunch. This group meets each Wednesday in the library to eat lunch and yes, you guessed it, read! Media Specialist Brenda Bass and 5th grade teacher Julie Rogers sponsor this weekly event. Mrs. Bass began this new process for the library to help with the increasing cost of purchasing books for the school. Parents donate 15 dollars to the North Ridge library so their students can participate. When new shipments of books arrive, the children are invited to pick out a book of choice. The book also includes a bookplate with the child’s name and birthday month placed inside. The child is then able to be the first person to check out the new book. North Ridge held it very first Library Birthday Book Club last week. The students are reading Harry Potter for their first book of the year. A special thanks to our North Ridge parents for providing a wonderful gift that will benefit many students as well as honor their own child.
