ay May 29 28 & 29 28 6 20116 20 . W W W n a e p o Eur tival Fes a .c feature nation: United Kingdom The story of the United Kingdom is one of history’s most remarkable sagas. The word conjures up many different images: from great cities with their imposing Georgian and Victorian architecture to the Medieval castles and cathedrals of the nations towns and the delightful villages and tranquil meadows of the rural shires, Britain’s green and pleasant land. It is however, the distinctive culture, values and traditions which are the unmistakable marks of British nationhood. Welcome one and all to the UK...take a trip around Britain the home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her Royal family. Birthplace of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Bard. A nation where you can find a lively pint of bitter to go with your fish and chips or ploughman’s lunch... Visit the UK in its Feature Tent this year, take a picture with personages such as the Queen, King Arthur, Merlin, Robin Hood or Maid Marian. Talk to representatives of Bard on the Beach and learn more about British culture and humour. British stage entertainment includes Andrew Mockler, the Vancouver Morris Men, Rattlebone Band, and Judi the manners lady. You will quickly notice there is much more to this country than baked beans or fish and chips. Thank you one! Thank you all! The board of directors would like to thank and acknowledge everyone involved in bringing together this 19th European Festival, without your efforts and many hours of work none of this would be possible. As president of the Board I am truly grateful to have had the chance to work with such an amazing group of people, so committed to the continued success of this festival. This celebration transcends diversity and brings about unity in the preservation of European Heritage and Culture here in the Lower Mainland. Today we are not Portuguese, Norwegian, Swiss or Austrian, we are all European sharing a little of ourselves with each other and those around us. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for your contribution to today’s success. In the past, the group had pumped out two albums worth of energetic indie pop music with a handful of EPs in between... “On Blonde is more dynamic, more visceral than our previous records, we were more ambitious, it ís sort of ironic that in experimenting we created a more accessible record than ever before...” says Innes.
