www.tuvamerica.com A Commitment to People, Technology & Solutions Sumaria Systems, Inc. is an award-winning ISO 9001:2000 certified and CMM Level III-assessed Information Technology (IT) and Professional services Defense Contractor headquartered in Danvers, Massachusetts. In June 2005, Sumaria achieved ISO 9001:2000 certification of its Quality Management System (QMS), granted by TÜV SÜD America, Inc. Sumaria’s QMS encompasses major facets of its service operations as a Government Contractor that supplies Technical and Professional services for Government IT projects, and excludes the company’s Business Development functions. The Challenge: The Situation: Sumaria provides comprehensive IT and Professional services, including Network Engineering, Software Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Information & Information Systems Management, Financial Management, Advisory & Assistance Services (A&AS), Training, and Integration Engineering to meet its clients’ diverse needs. “TÜV was local; their pricing competitive— but it was the expertise and flexibility of their Auditing staff that was the deciding factor in choosing TÜV as our Registrar for ISO certification,” commented Venilal Sumaria, President and CEO, Sumaria Systems, Inc.. “More than 350 organizations sell IT solutions to the United States Air Force, so we wanted to make sure we were working with a Registrar who could add value to our QMS and help us keep on the path of continuous improvement with a disciplined approach for business processes and procedures. Edward Surette, Lead Auditor, TÜV Management Service, was knowledgeable and a good communicator. Furthermore, his military background was helpful in fully understanding the intricacies of Sumaria’s business and clients. Mr. Surette took the time to carefully explain his observations from our Pre-Registration and Certification audits, which have become our road map for continued success,” concluded Mr. Sumaria. Throughout its 23-year history, Sumaria has been dedicated to providing quality services to its government customers. With the commitment to “People, Technology & Solutions” as its core mission, Sumaria insisted on implementing a QMS, which was also fast becoming a requirement of many of its current and potential government clients. Sumaria wanted a Registrar that not only was local, but one that also understood their needs to be compliant to military quality requirements. TÜV SÜD America Inc. CASE STUDY: Sumaria Systems, Inc. The Outcome: Sumaria Systems’ corporate headquarters, located in Danvers, Massachusetts became ISO 9001:2000- certified on June 3, 2005. They had a highly successful first ISO 9001:2000 certification audit with no documented non-conformances — a testament to the effectiveness of their strong QMS program processes. “More than 350 organizations sell IT solutions to the United States Air Force, so we wanted to make sure we were working with a Registrar who could add value to our QMS and help us keep on the path of continuous improvement with a disciplined approach for business processes and procedures.” - Mr. Venilal President and CEO, Sumaria Systems, Inc. About ISO 9001:2000: ISO 9001:2000 specifies Quality Management System (QMS) requirements for any organization that needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product that meets customer and applicable regulatory requirements and aims to enhance customer satisfaction. The standard recognizes that the word “product” also applies to services, and it is used for certification/registration and contractual purposes by organizations seeking recognition of their QMS. ISO 9001:2000 is now the only standard in the ISO 9000 family against whose requirements a quality system can be certified by an external agency. The ISO 9000 family of standards has been recognized, and is in use, in more than 90 countries including the United Kingdom, the European Community, the U.S., Asia and Australia. It is now the most popular quality standard series in use. Progressive companies, such as Sumaria Systems, are finding the ISO 9001:2000 process can offer real strategic value, especially when it is aligned with the company’s corporate mission and quality objectives.
