For those of you who don't know me well, we just wrapped up our annual meeting of
the Yankee Dental Congress. This was the first year we moved from the Hynes Convention
Center to the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. I am so glad it is all over! For those
of you who plan multiple events a year, or switch convention centers year after year – I
don't quite know how you do it! Just trying to think of all the new area's that need signage,
working with new building personnel, new hotels – it is a lot of work! Now, we just need to
get through the winter!
Our board will be meeting fairly soon to begin the planning process for the year. If
anyone has any subject matters they would like to see on our program, please e-mail or
call me with your suggestions. I would love to hear from you!
Our first program will probably be sometime in March, then we will have an exhibit
booth at NEMICE on April 9th. Please stop by and say hello or if you would like to be a
volunteer and work the booth, we would love to have you!
Regards,
Shannon

IAEE Creates Young Professionals Committee
Young Professionals Committee Engages Generation X and Y to Identify Trends & Resources for Future of Industry
IAEE has created the Young Professionals Committee to address the specific needs of younger members of the
exhibitions and events industry, as well as recruit future candidates to the field. A Web site has been established at
www.iaee.com/ypc featuring a Blog and other social networking tools for participants.
A series of programs and targeted communications will serve to reach key goals including:
1. Develop mentor programs.
2. Create better events and educational programs.
3. Recognize people as they come into the industry.
4. Develop and attract new talent to the industry.
Initiatives being examined or already underway for 2008 include:
1. The Young Professional Review: A program where young professionals review conferences in their area for
“attractiveness.” Also, to review new technologies and programming currently used in conferences.
2. Inside Young Professionals: Young professionals are given the opportunity to share case studies and career
experiences to be featured on the Blog and IAEE News.
3. IAEE Conference Areas/Lounges at Conferences: “A place to be you” lounges and activities developed and set aside
specifically for young professionals at IAEE events.
4. Mentor program for high school students: Young professionals speak to high school students as a method of
attracting young talent.
5. Mentor program for the young professional: Identify 'movers and shakers' in the industry who are interested in
developing Young Professionals and allowing “behind the scenes” access.

The Hynes Convention Center in Boston will play host to the 22nd annual New England Meetings Industry
Convention and Exhibition (NEMICE) on April 8 - 9, 2008.
NEMICE, sponsored by the New England Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI/NE), continues to be
New England's leading annual meetings industry educational conference and trade show. Nearly 1500 meeting planners
and suppliers attended the educational sessions and exhibitor program at NEMICE 2007. With significant enhancements
to NEMICE 2008, MPI/NE is anticipating its largest meeting planner attendance ever.

IAEE NE Holiday Party - A Huge Success
Our Chapter Holiday Party on November 29, 2007 was a huge success! For the first time in a few years, we had a
new location – the beautiful Fairmont Copley Hotel in Boston. Our board members, Karen Pogatch of Champion
Exposition Services and Kathleen Chrisom of Conventures put together a great night for everyone who attended.
We also had a new charity selected for the evening. We asked party-goers to bring anything they could to help Safe
Harbor, an organization that provides shelter for women and children of domestic abuse. IAEE members more than
gave – we collected towels, sheets, shampoo, diapers, gifts – the list went on and on. In addition, we sold raffle tickets
for prizes and IAEE New England matched the amount raised. We were able to present Safe Harbor a check on site for
$1,170. Estella Fritzinger, Executive Director of Safe Harbor, was more than thrilled with what we gave to their
organization. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to this worthwhile cause!
