Copyright © 2014 Ashdown-Ingram ABN 97 097 993 283 9 Features and Benefits All kits have been developed specifically for the local (Australasian) market. This means: •All wires are colour coded in accordance with ADR (Australian Design Rules) unlike kits imported directly from other markets. •Local tail light configuration has been designed into the kit so no modification is required at fitment. All kits are vehicle/model specific. This means: • Factory plugs are used to connect the wiring kit into the vehicles wiring network. •The wiring kits maintain proper operation of the vehicle systems such as, PDC, trailer stability control, stop start function, hill start assist, blind spot warning and any other system that is affected or requires parameter modification due to the attachment of a trailer. •If vehicle reprogramming is required the wiring kits allow this and if applicable this is detailed in the fitment instructions. European OEM quality construction. This means: •All wire used is of a specific gauge as specified by European manufactures to ensure it is capable of carrying the maximum current available under full load. The main function of tow bar wiring has changed quite substantially over recent times with the development of new vehicle technologies. Historically all that tow bar wiring had to do was replicate the lighting from the vehicle’s tail lights. All these functions could be directly driven from the vehicle wiring by tapping into analogue signals going to the tail lights. But new technologies have placed a greater demand on trailer wiring. The OEX trailer interface range accommodates for the demands of modern vehicles. Each kit is a solution, designed for a specific vehicle model using OEM quality factory crimping and wrapping methods and model specific connectors for simple and true connections. Each unit has incorporated the potential features of the vehicle’s trailer options, that can include; Parking Distance Control (PDC), trailer (sway/ stability) control, bulb out detection (check control), Analogue Channel Protection, Voltage regulated power supply and CAN-bus (Controlled Area Network) interaction. In today’s modern vehicles, communication is the key. Many vehicle manufacturers now take advantage of the features of CAN-bus to provide further safety while towing, as extra loads on the vehicle can have detrimental effects on the vehicles dynamics and systems. No longer is it possible to connect wires to a vehicles electrical system without error codes or shutdown. The OEX trailer interface range provides solutions to your CAN-bus dependant vehicles. 10 Copyright © 2014 Ashdown-Ingram ABN 97 097 993 283. •All sheathing is OE quality as used in all standard vehicle harnesses not just wound using insulation tape. This ensures it will with stand any friction wear and provide a suitable barrier to dust and moisture. •All wire crimps are machine crimped using specific tooling for that harness/wire diameter. •All kits are manufactured in Europe. The very latest CAN-bus technology is used. This means: •The kits integrate into the vehicle systems as intended by the vehicle manufacturers. •All CAN-bus systems are fully LED compatible. •Bulb out detection system/software warns the driver if there is a trailer bulb malfunction. •Safety systems like trailer stability control are activated. Additional CAN-bus features When a CAN-bus specific harness kit is fitted, the lighting system is completely operational. All that remains on some vehicles is the optional activation of certain comfort features included in the OEX solution. The customer or fitter has the choice: •Take the vehicle to the OEM dealer for coding; or •Use an aftermarket coding system. Please note: These are additional comfort features built into the OEX solution and if not activated do not affect the normal operation of the trailer interface. OE Harness: OEX Harness: The Technical Details Trailer Control This specifies the type of trailer interface module included where applicable. Options: CFC 3 It performs many functions which includes communicating with the vehicle and activating many features on the vehicle specific to towing such as trailer stability control and various engine mapping programs. It also deactivates other safety features as required such as parking distance sensors and blind spot monitoring. All our CAN-bus modules are LED compatible which means no added ballast is required. AFC The AFC modules performs bulb out detection on the trailer indicator lights. When a bulb is out, the vehicle indicators flash at an increased frequency to alert the driver. LED AFC The module is also LED compatible, and is sometimes used in conjunction with another amplification module (Such as the CC module) in order to cover additional channels. Coding Required In many instances coding of vehicles with CAN-bus solutions are required in order to activate the specific towing features in the vehicle. This can be done using various aftermarket systems or by taking your vehicle to an OEM dealership Check Control Check control is a term that describes all methods of bulb out detection. This is either provided by the inclusion of a specific check control module such as the AFC module in analogue systems or by the CFC CAN-bus module in digital solutions. PDC Deactivation This indicates the type of Parking Distance Sensor deactivation that is employed where applicable. PDC deactivation is either provided by the CFC module in CANbus systems or by means of a socket and micro switch in analogue systems. If deactivation is achieved by using the built in cabin button, it is indicated by the code E6. Auxiliary Power In some instances an auxiliary power outlet is provided to supply various other accessories such as canopy lights. This is usually voltage regulated to prevent battery drain. Brake Controller Prep The kit has been pre-wired to accept the connection of an electronic brake controller. A plug in provided for easy connection. CAN-bus Connect Indicates if the CAN-bus connection is made at the front or rear of the vehicle. F= Front and R=Rear. Current Connect Indicates if the power connection is made at the front or rear of the vehicle. F= Front and R=Rear Fitment Time Indicates the estimated fitting time. A = 30-60 minutes B = 60-90 minutes C = More than 90 minutes CC Channel amplification module without check control. AM2212 / AM227 This is an amplification module that provides protection to the vehicle circuits. Some vehicles have very sensitive circuits and therefore amplification is required to protect them. An amplification module is never used for the purpose of hiding the trailer from vehicles with CAN-bus systems as done by some other kits. This module also has check control. AM227 has full channel amplification without check control. CAN-bus This indicates if the solution is a CAN-bus type solution. This will include the application of a CAN-bus module that communicates with the vehicle systems.
