PARISH PRIEST:
From the Principal,
Father John Shalvey
Dear Parents,
PRINCIPAL:
Mrs Renee Matheson
A principal at St Patrick’s school is privileged as their role includes lots of time in the
classroom teaching. Last week I learnt a lot about the letters ‘H’ and ‘R’ with Kindergarten,

and support of all the boys, on and off the field. We are very lucky at St Pat’s to have such
fantastic support staff. We look forward to the Bourke Rugby League day in Term 2.
Each child at St Patrick’s is unique. This term parents, students and class teacher’s have
worked together to build Personalised Learning Plans (PLP’s) to strengthen and build upon each
child’s gifts and talents. Thank you to all the parents who have met with class teachers this
term. The teachers of St Pat’s have worked hard to contact all of you individually and I thank
them for their professionalism and dedication to all students.
Congratulations to our Kinder/Year One teacher Miss Brienne Allport who graduated from
the University of New England on the weekend. We trust you had a wonderful day where you
celebrated your accomplishments with family and friends.
This week we welcomed an addition to our teaching staff. Miss Breanna Thayer will be working
casually at school to cover permanent teaching staff during Professional Development and personal leave. Welcome Breanna.
As you may be aware my husband David works a two week roster and this term our holidays
didn’t quite match up! Unfortunately I will not be school the first two days of Term 2—I do
apologise for any inconvenience. Mrs Jeffery will take on the leadership responsibilities dur-

National Walk Safely to School Day Friday 24th May
2013
.
Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is an annual,
national event when all Primary School children
will be encouraged to walk and commute safely to
school. It is a Community Event seeking to
promote Road Safety, Health, Public Transport
and the Environment. We are encouraging students, staff and parents to walk to school on the
Friday and enjoy a bacon and egg burger on arrival! After breakfast families are welcome to stay
for assembly (free coffee for mums & dads!).
Tip of the Week
Please keep reading over
the holidays!
Reading Tips for Parents of Kinder
Read it and experience it
Connect what your child reads with what happens in
life. If you’re reading a book about animals, relate it to
your last trip to the zoo.
Talk about letters and sounds
Help your child learn the names of the letters and the
sounds the letters make. Turn it into a game! "I'm thinking of a letter and it makes the sound mmmmmm."
Parents Prayer by Michael Durso
I pray that I may let my child live his own life, and
not the one I wish
I had lived. Therefore, guard me against burdening him
with doing what I failed to do. Help me see his missteps today in perspective against the long road he
must travel and grant me the grace to be patient
with his slow pace.
Give me the wisdom to know when to smile at the
small mischiefs of his age and when to show firmness
against the impulses he fears and cannot handle.
Help me to hear the anguish in his heart through the
din of angry words, or across the gulf of brooding silence; and, having heard, grant me the ability to
bridge the gap between us with understanding.
I pray that I may raise my voice more in joy at what

he is than in vexation at what he is not, so that each
day he may grow in sureness of himself.
Help me to regard him with genuine affection, so that
he will feel affection for others. Then give me the
strength, O Lord, to free him, so that he can move
strongly on his way.
