You can play 6 different games with “The Word Cube! by JayTM ”
Crosswords See page 10 for clues. Form the words as directed
by the clues in the locations indicated on the layout on page 12.
Add up the point value for a total score of the letters successfully
used. The solution is available at www.americanclassictoy.com
Scramble Obtain the highest score in a pre-set limited amount
of time – i.e. 2 – 3 - 5 minutes – by forming as many words as
possible. Upon reaching the time limit, add up the point value of
all letters successfully used in legitimate words, jot it down on the
score sheet and pass the Word Cube to the next player. Players
keep a running score. Words may be vertical, horizontal, forwards
or backwards, and may cross each other with a common letter.
In the case of a cross, the point value of the letter counts in both
words.
Word-Challenge
Must be 2 or more players. The first player forms a word on any
of the vertical columns or horizontal rows. Note the point value
on the score sheet. Then pass the Word Cube to the next player
who must form his/her own word crossing a common letter in the
prior played word and note the score on the score sheet. Pass
the Word Cube to the next player and so on. Keep a running total.
Write down the words used as prior words will become scrambled.
Players may not use a word already taken. As a bonus, you may
play that the crossed letter has double letter score for each word.
Game ends when each player is unable to form an additional word.
Highest score wins.
Word-Master
For 2 players –
The Set-UP
One player rearranges the Word Cube; the second player tosses it
on the table between them. Player One plays the top and 2 sides
facing him/her while player Two plays the same top and opposite
two sides facing him/her. (Only the “Bottom” side is out of play.
See diagram A on page 9.) Agree upon the time limit per round.
The Play
Each player writes down the words that he/she can form on his/
her 3 sides. Letters must be adjacent and in order of spelling but
may follow any trajectory including diagonal and wrapping around
the sides. (See diagram A on page 9) Set the timer to 3 minutes
or other mutually agreed time. Following the time allowed, turn the
Word Cube™ around to SWITCH sides so that each player has
the opportunity to play the opponent’s three sides.
The Scoring/Checking
Player A reads his/her words to Player B who has the opportunity
to check them on the three sides now facing him/her while stating
the score for each word. Player One writes down the score next
to each word. Do the same scoring/checking process for the
opponent. Then turn the Word Cube™ back around as originally
played to repeat the check/score process for that side. Add up the
points for each player per round and mark it on the score sheet.
Add up the scores of the 2 rounds. The player with the higher
cumulative score wins.
For 3 or 4 players – One player rearranges the Word Cube the
second player tosses it on the table between the players. Each
player uses the top and the side facing them (see diagram B on
page 9). They form the words on the 2 sides for 2 minutes. Swivel
the cube so that they each play the top and next side, for 2 minutes.
Again swivel the cube so that each player is now playing the third
side. Then swivel the cube so that each player may now play the
fourth and last side. Once all four sides have been played, follow
the scoring/checking process above for all four sides. The player
with the highest cumulative score wins.
Option –
Each player may play 3 sides per round as in diagram A on page
9 and continue as above.
Anagrams (Solitaire)
Form as many words as you can through manipulation.
To score either:
1) Keep a running total or
2) count the score in its final position.
Add up the score. May be played with or without a time limit.
Color Cube A (by background colors)
Each letter has a background color. There are 6 sides and 6
colors. Rearrange the Word Cube in Color Cube™ form (see
diagram C on front cover of booklet).
Color Cube B (by number colors)
Each letter has its own color. There are 6 colors and 6 sides.
Rearrange the Word Cube in Color Cube™ form (see diagram D on
front cover of booklet).
Make Up Your Own “Word Games” – Make up and play
your own word games with the Word Cube™. Write to our website
at webmaster@americanclassictoy.com. New games that are
considered viable will be published on our website in order to
make them available to the public. Prizes will be awarded to those
original games chosen.
Notes
• You can download additional score sheets from our
website.
• The SuDoKu Cube™ is packaged in the solution form
however the Word Cube™ is not in order to avoid giving
away the answers.
• The solution is available on our website:
www.americanclassictoy.com
• On Crosswords, it is not necessary to give the number
locations on the cube as in a conventional crossword
puzzle, as it would be leading to the solutions. The
locations will “find” themselves as you construct the solved
puzzle by placing in the solutions in relation to each other
in accordance with the layout on page 12.
• “Legitimate Word” means any word found in a standard
dictionary. Players may play in any language mutually
agreed upon using the standard alphabet letters of the
Cube. (I.e. English, Spanish, Italian, French, Hawaiian,
German, Portuguese, Hindi, and Swissdeutch.) Accents
and marks such as the “Umlaut” (¨) in German or the “enie”
(˜) in Spanish shall be accepted as if in place.
• This is the first time that Crosswords adds the dimension
of a score to the game.
• This is the first time that crosswords may play in all four
directions not just across and down.
• Always play on the “honor system”!

History of Crossword Puzzles
Word puzzles have been in use for centuries; even millenniums.
“Word Squares” date back at least to early Roman times. Words
were printed so that they read the same vertically and horizontally
in a square. They were popular among children. Evidence indicates
that there were word puzzles in use in Pompeii 2,000 years ago.
The crossword puzzle is believed to be the most popular word
puzzle today.
The first crossword puzzles appeared in England in the 19th
Century. These were apparently derived from the “Word Square”.
The first known published Crossword Puzzle was on December
21, 1913 in a Sunday Newspaper, the New York World under the
name “Word-Cross”. Arthur Wynne, a journalist from Liverpool,
England, created this. Originating in England, the game traveled
to and became popular in the United States. Later it returned
to England, through publication in Pearson’s Magazine in Feb
of 1922. The fledgling publishing house Simon & Schuster
began publishing the puzzles in book form in 1924. The pastime
spread to other newspapers in the United States during the later
1920s. By the 1930s, crossword puzzles had become a national
phenomena. Most of the newspapers in USA published the popular
puzzle. Interestingly, the New York Times, which currently enjoys
a reputation for crosswords, was a “hold-out” and did not publish
the crossword puzzle during the crosswords craze of the 1930s. At
last the New York Times published it as a Sunday puzzle in 1942
and eight years later, as a daily in 1950.
18
The first London Times crosswords appeared on February
1st, 1930. The British crosswords is generally more cryptic and
complicated than its U. S. counterpart. At the time of this writing,
crossword puzzles are popular around the world.
The Word Cube™ was conceived on a flight to Los Angeles, in May
of 2007. The neighboring passenger was engrossed in a crossword
puzzle. Jay asked her if she would like to play sudoku. She replied
“I'm good with words, not with numbers”. The first thought was
how to acquaint the crossword players with the SuDoKu Cube™.
Introspection overcame that concept with “how can we provide a
product suitable for the crossword player?” Hence – the birth of
the Word Cube™.
Playing crosswords on the Word Cube™ adds a new dimension
to the puzzle. In normal newspaper crosswords, one must solve
each word from the clue. In the Word Cube™ once you have
deciphered the clue, you must then locate its position AND
manipulate the Word Cube™ to place it in the proper location.
Each letter in the Word Cube™ has a point value; this is the first
time that a crossword player will earn a point value to his/her
crossword game. It is also the first time a crossword puzzle plays
in four directions instead of the customary two.
See more information about the Word Cube™ and other fine
products on our website: www.americanclassictoy.com.

American Classic Toy
American Classic Toy (ACT) was founded with the goal of
applying new ideas to existing products and to re-issue
the American Classic toys of the 20th century . The classic
products are made from the original molds, with original
product rights, to the original specifications.
Safety First!
It has always been our policy to test each product by an
independent laboratory and the resulting certificates are
available on our website. No lead-based paint is used.
Examples of the concept of the re-issuance of American
Classic Toys by ACT, affiliates or licensees are such
wonderful products (and nostalgic friends) as: Fort
Apache, Marvel the Mustang, Battleground, Evel
Knievel toys, Jamball, Super City, Mighty Mo Vehicles,
Suzy Homemaker, Howdy Doody, Mr. Machine, Johnny
West, Krazy Kar, Green Ghost and Skittle Pool.
The Word Cube! by Jay™, like the application of the Sudoku
puzzle in the SuDoKu Cube™, is the application of standard
word games to the puzzle cube as made by the molds that
manufactured the original Rubik’s Cube by Ideal Toy in the
1980’s.
