1964 Yearbook - Prairie Books
BUFFALO TRAilS 1964 Because our school has been built upon a foundation put down by
the pioneers of this community, we have chosen to feature our school
crest. The twisted rope and the guns symbolize the dangers met and
conquered, the tree is a reminder of our own bit of tragic history in
the Lone Tree Massacre, and the torch above our frowning mascot is
for the lamp of knowledge holding out its hope for generations to come.

With the passing of each year, the memories of days spent in Meade High School will become
dimmer. We present the Buffalo Trails of 1964 in the hope that each of you, at some future
date, will turn the pages of this book and again meet friends and recall memories of some of
the happiest days of your youth.

The routine of a class work day,
The junior and the senior pia y,
We will have these moments to remember.
The junior prom we planned last year, The band was late; the guests were here. We will have these moments to remember. Our class rings with the Buffalo crest .
~ew Orleans was the very best.
We will have these moments to remember.
The quiet talks, the noisy fun, A football game we finally won, We will have these moments to remember. Though stunmer turns to winter
And the present disappears,
The la ughter we were glad to share
Will echo through the ye :HS.
Though SWTlmer turns to winter And the present disappears, The tune of our Meade High School song Will echo through the years . When other nights and other days
May find us gone our separate ways ,
We will have these moments to remember.
So if we're near, or if we 're not, Lest old acquaintance be forgot , We will have these moments to remember. 43
SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY 1964
Slip with me for a moment into the year 1984. We will avoid the frightening speculation of George Orwell,
for poor George Orwe ll did not grow up with the most promisin g class of 1964 seniors. I did. And I know.
By this t ime, Ruth Dye is, of course, hom e from her medic a l duty in the Peace Corps and is settled in
M issouri.
J. T. Powe ll, a Colonel in the United States Air Force , is stationed in Jap an, and Tom Burtnett, on the

Debbie Small is a part time secretary in a Midwestern city and Alvin Dobbs is working in Denver.
After nine years as a registered nurse, MicIJ e le Hoffm an is raising a fam ily in Oregon. It is quite a coin

Arizona.
.
We find D a rryl Smutz in San Francisco where he is an engi nc:er for the city's construction crews.
Linda Bailey has set up he r bea uty shop in downtown Sa lt Lake City.
We are grateful to the fc·I...· wh O' re m a ined loyal to Kansas. Tom Fishe r is fanning and Je a n Harris is on the

SECRETARIES AND CUSTODIANS
Because o ur yearbook staff "goofed" we are for c ed to put this page here. But, on se cond thought, what
better place to have it than in the "Activities" section. If we had to do without these pe ople, all other a c
tl'.itics would soon slow down. If you think they aren't active, try foll owing them fo r a day as they go about
their work. Here we present six of the most active people in our school.
LOIS ADA MS
HEL,EN GEBHA R T
ADAH HOWAT
These three women are responsible for
doi ng the many things that he Ip to ke ep our
school functioning so smooth ly. Among
othe r thin gs they record grades, sort mail,
k e ep lunch reco rds and accolmts of our
money . They must always be ready to "take
a le tter, please" or find the magic marker.
LEROY LEMASTER
Leroy Lemaster is custodi a n of the
grade building . He sweeps miles of
hallway each year. Here he is on
the job. Of c o urse he does other
thin gs too, but let's not go into that.
TOM BENEAR
Tom Benear, custodi n of the high
school building, is proving that he
does wash mirrors and doors. Tom is
a l'ways cheerful and always busy .
This is his first year on the job and
we hope he stays for many more.
HAROLD DYE
We knew if we watied long enough we'd c a tch Harold sitting
down on the job. But then , if the junior high c ould keep their
w alls clea n, he wo uldn't have to "sit". He might look for a
shade tree as he mows the lawn . He "sits" for tha t too, or have
you se n him rid in g the mow er ? Harold is responsible for the
be a utiful roses in fr ont of the building.
