Xerox® Printed Memory with Cryptographic Security Protect your revenue stream with a low cost innovation with cryptographic security, so far only used on the safest Internet ecommerce transactions! Xerox® Printed Memory with cryptographic security is a tracking label that combines a unique printed code (e.g. QR-code) with the Xerox® Printed Memory. It is read by an inexpensive device that can be connected to an existing smartphone with or without a network/cloud database. Every tracking label is encrypted with a specific Xerox proprietary algorithm that can only be created by authorized personnel (you or your designated staff). Only authorized devices running this algorithm can generate valid codes that are written, read or rewritten to the printed memory. This provides exceptionally high security anti-counterfeit protection as well as the ability to detect product diversion. Use overview - product authentication Read authentication code from Xerox® Printed Memory 1 Authentication code generated from QR code (Proprietary secure algorithm) Read QR code 3 2 Secure proprietary App compares authentication code with Xerox® Printed Memory data. 4 Possible Results 5 Data Management Options: (a) Rewrite to Xerox® Printed Memory • Record readings / validation details such as time / date / location (GPS) • Write new authentication code for validation at next step of supply chain • Authentic product • Diverted / Gray Market • Counterfeit / damaged (b) Readings / Data stored in Reader/APP for upload to database when online 2 High Security at Low Cost Because the memory labels are manufactured by a printing process, the cost is lower than technologies based on RFID or silicon chips. The memory can store up to 68 billion distinct data combinations and can be manufactured with optional tamper-evident adhesives. When the already unique label is combined with an encrypted code that can only be created by authorized personnel using proprietary algorithms, the solution becomes one of the most tamper proof Anti-Counterfeit solutions available. A cost-effective way to manufacture structured electrodes, this technique can be applied to both cathodes and anodes for most mature battery chemistries. High Li+ High density Lithium conductive region storage region Li+ ion flow CATHODE Current Collector 5 Experimental printhead OVERVIEW: Schematic of Li-ion flow One of the challenges in transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy is the availability of cost-effective and portable energy storage. For example, the development of more efficient batteries at low cost is crucial for the growth of the electric vehicle market. However, given the limited space available within a battery cell, performance is typically optimized for either power or energy density. With typical monolithic battery electrodes, increased power requires greater conductivity, thereby resulting in less available volume for energy storage. Micrograph of Li-ion stripes By structuring an electrode with conductive regions that are interleaved with storage regions, ion flow paths can be shortened without compromising capacity. PARC’s innovative CoEx technique can fabricate such structures at high speed. The relative dimensions can be changed to achieve optimal performance in terms of both power and energy, customizing the benefits for batteries based on their specific application. The benefits • Up to 30% increase in energy density • Up to 30% improvement in power density • Up to 30% reduction in cost ($/kWh) • Transferrable to mass manufacturing • Scalable to manufacture higher capacity batteries • Applicable to most mature battery chemistries The solution PARC has developed CoEx, an innovative coextrusion printing technique where dissimilar materials can be deposited side by side at high speed. This technique can directly deposit an interdigitated structure as small as 5μm in width with high aspect ratios. By changing the print head geometry, the relative thickness, width, and length of the deposited structure can easily be modified. CoEx can be applied to battery chemistries where electrodes are coated on metal foils from a slurry, and its process speed, coating width, and reliability are equivalent to those of conventional battery coating equipment. PARC originally developed this technique to print metal gridlines with high aspect ratios on solar cells, and PARC has now transferred the technology for solar cell metallization to pilot production with a leading PV manufacturer. The performance PARC fabricated LiCoO2 half cells using CoEx and measured improved energy and power as shown below. Performance modeling is also being conducted with different battery chemistries, including alkaline, LixMn2O4, LiCoO2, Zn-air, and Ag-Zn. For example, the modeling of a CoEx structured cathode in a Liion battery resulted in a 10-20% improvement in energy density at the same power output. Applying the technique to anodes, additional improvements can be expected. Apply CoEx to your batteries PARC can help you incorporate CoEx structured electrodes into your batteries to improve performance dramatically without changing the fundamental chemistry. The technology demands a minimal cost and size overhead as it relies on a liquid crystal layer about as thick as a human hair. Liquid crystal cell OVERVIEW: Complete camera prototype Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) refers to the simultaneous collection of an optical spectrum at each point in an image. It is applied to fields as diverse as agriculture, medicine, art restoration, and machine vision, however it is currently limited in adoption due to the prohibitive cost of an HSI camera. With the abundance of image processing power available today, the existing outdated HSI hardware is ripe for disruption. The PARC HSI technology endows any existing image sensor with spectral sensitivity without Example hyperspectral image significantly increasing its cost or size. By sandwiching a liquid crystal layer between crossed polarizers and synchronizing the drive of the liquid crystal with the camera’s image acquisition, the system performs interferometry between two polarizations of light that travel through the liquid crystal. The interferometric data are analyzed to provide the spectral information. Because the complexity of the device is shifted from hardware to software, the sophistication of full spectral processing is within reach anywhere images are normally taken. Advantages of PARC HSI • Can be adapted to wavelength ranges in the visible to the IR • Software-tradeable spectral resolution, spatial resolution, and imaging speed • High optical throughput due to interferometric (Fourier) data capture • Compatible with a wide range of image sensors, frame rates, and spatial resolutions • Fast acqusition times (<1 second) limited by frame rate of sensor • Provides instantaneous spatial information Current prototype specs PARC has prototyped its HSI technology by integrating a liquid crystal cell inside a commercial monochrome CMOS camera. The prototype offers the following performance: • 640 x 480 spatial resolution • Up to 80 degree field of view • Acquires 30 independent spectral bands in 0.4 seconds • Wavelength range 400 nm to 1100 nm • F/1.8 max aperture Potential applications of ubiquitous HSI For precision agriculture or in the supermarket; document authentication and counterfeit detection; medical imaging, home medical diagnostics, endoscopy, and fluorescence microscopy; augmented reality, passive tagging or target detection; forensics; and many more. Apply our technology to your cameras PARC can help you incorporate our hyperspectral imaging technology into your existing scientific or consumer cameras. Add hyperspectral capability without modifying your camera’s underlying form factor.
