During the day we were concerned with the weather but in the end the forecast was correct. We were able to get the race in with ten boats competing. Grabbing the win was Jerry Dunnells’ Chanson. Following closely behind was Paul Rendich’s Clipper in second and Aileen Eppig’s Brokher in third. The racing was close with the top five boats finishing within minutes of each other. Running an excellent race was Dan McMillian & Will Walters. Shore side, Trudy & Gary Guarino whipped up some super post race vittles!! Don’t forget the Corinthian Series is a best four of six series so that right to the crown is still up for grabs. The following Sunday we held the BYC Men’s & Women’s Championships with crews competing in Flying Scots. Racing was tight in the Women’s flight where three teams competed and the winner still hasn’t been decided because of a protest that needs to be heard – that’s how close the racing was! In the Men’s flight we had four crews. After some intense racing, skipper Kevin Brink, along with crew Lindsay Brink & Greg Brink, were able to fend off the team of Dave Johnson, Chris Sicignano, Bob Grover & stand in Jim Glynn, (Jim jumped in after Bob received an injury & required some first aid), who came in second. In third place were Andrew Hemingway, Justin Grover and Jonathan Hoyler. Late August 2008 Page Page 2 Helping to keep this event running smoothly was Daisy Holzmacher & Jim Glynn as RC, Ken Goodwin, Larry Schaefer and Paul Rendich as patrol boats, Christine Mullé for the food, our resident photographer Rich Tesoro for some nice pictures, Andrew Hemingway, Justin Grover & Jonathan Hoyler for jumping in and doing many of the pre-event prep jobs, GSBYRA for the loan of their two Flying Scots to help speed the day along, Chris Sicignano for use of Sybaris as RC boat and a special thanks to Pete Capitain who spent the rest of the day moving GSBYRA’s Flying Scots back to Bay Shore Yacht Club! times to be on the water – the traffic starts to dwindle, the air becomes crisp, the breeze freshens and sailing comes into its own. It just a pleasant time to be on the water. So get out there!! Our next race is Corinthian Race #4 on Friday August 22nd followed with the re-scheduled Governor’s Cup on Monday September 1. Our schedule is loaded up during the fall with racing most weekends.
