Thank you Volunteers! Spring is a time that we take a minute to say thanks to our volunteers. It is because of you that we have successful clubs and community events. We want to challenge each of you to continue to spread the word about 4-H and recruit others to join in “making the best better”. Below are several upcoming opportunities that we need some help in! Please contact Bethany Eigel at eigelb@chesterfield.gov or 804-751-4401 if you are interested. May 3: 4-H camp Registration, Chesterfield County Fair Grounds. 8 am July 7-11 and July 21-25: Guest Chef at Healthy Cooking Day Camp, Chester Family YMCA. 8:30– 12pm July 8th-10th: Intermediate Congress at Virginia State University. Lead a workshop for young teens on the topic of your choosing! Ongoing: members of the Extension Leadership Council, guest speakers for community programs and club leaders. 4-H Highlights: 4-H Day at the State Capitol In February, 4-Hers from all over came together to deliver shamrocks to their legislators to thank them for making Virginia 4-H possible. Over 100 youth attended this event from counties all over Virginia. This year, Chesterfield had participation from several clubs, including Business Bunch, Classic Equestrians and Hunter’s Gate. Teen Counselors– WE Love You! Each year, Chesterfield County 4-H takes 180 youth to Jamestown 4-H Educational Center to Camp. We would not be able to survive the entire week, let alone make the experience enjoyable for others without the help of our Teen Counselors. In light of National Volunteer Week, observed within the month of April, we would like to extend a special thank you to our teen volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication. Our teens are busy with sports, school clubs, community service and other commitments, and still carve out time to attend trainings and put in additional volunteer hours. For all of that, we say THANK YOU!!! Below our teen counselors are engaging in their final teen counselor training. Our counselors undergo months of training, and engage in additional community service and volunteer opportunities to ensure they are truly the BEST! Other Reminders and News! Congrats to our 2014 4-H All Star Initiates– Morgan Faber and Lauren Gaines!!!! 4-H All Stars is an honor/service organization. Membership in 4-H All Stars is the highest recognition that a Virginia 4-H'er can achieve. Virginia 4-H All Stars is service oriented, and volunteer operated. Morgan currently serves as president of Hunter’s Gate Horse Club and Megan is a member of Classic Equestrians Horse Club! Applications for the 4-H Development Fund Scholarship are now being accepted! Seniors only—apply by May 2nd!! We are in need of colorful comic strips and wrapping paper for camp this summer! Feel free to drop off your supplies to the office between now and camp! 4-H Intermediate Congress will be held July 7th-10th at Virginia State University. For more information about any of these events or needs, please call Bethany Eigel at 804-751-4401 or email at eigelb@chesterfield.gov
