Appendix A PA B AT CO Pe rsonne l O wners Edward Miley, Gerald Whitney and Claran Hesp made an effort to hire from within the surrounding communities and were willing to train the employees to work within their assigned duties. The employee training allowed employees to advance or change positions when the company’s expansion created new positions. This practice explains the changing Name Alexander, Curt Ashby, Addie Bass, Tana Benzel, Pat Briggs, Christy Chesnut, Ed Coats, Doris Coppock, Sharon Croteau, Roberta Cullen, Roger Cumbi, Sharon Davis, Debbie Demaris, Merle Ellis, Becky Estes, Zora Evans, Donna Foster, Marvin Fullerton, Hazel of individual job positions. If an individual was willing to learn, new job opportunities were available. In about 1973 Ed Miley established more definitive departments. Up until that time jobs had been performed under the umbrella of General Office Staff. Around this time, the computer era was also introduced into the PABATCO offices. Jim occupied this position for about a year at which time Ed returned as full time General Manager. He held this position until Pabatco was completely phased out. 183 Appendix B Ho d a k a Sa l e s H o d a k a Sa l e s P e r A r e a t o J u n e 1 9 7 8 This scan of an original PABATCO document shows the history of Hodaka Motorcycle Sales up until the end of PABATCO in 1978. The table includes sales figures not only to Distributors within the USA, but sales to other markets such as Australia. 184 H o d a k a Sa l e s Hodaka Sales by State 185 Appendix C H o d a k a Pro d uct i on H o d a k a P r o d u ct i o n Data P e r M o d e l P e r Y e a r T he following table was compiled by Ed Chesnut (exPABATCO Service Manager) in recent times from several PABATCO source documents. This table brings together the information contained in other PABATCO documents. At best guess, there is a relationship/continuity of frame numbers by frame families. At family changes, there are big jumps in serial numbers, which seems reasonable. There are, however, questions regarding why the demarcations were placed where they were between some families. For example, there is no reason the Super Combat should have been included in the Wombat/Combat Wombat frame family, but it clearly was. Also, there is no reason the toaster tank Dirt Squirt (which had the Combat Wombat frame) should be in the painted tank Rat and Road Toad family, but it clearly was. There are some numbering anomalies which cannot be fully explained. The first two numbering anomalies 186 appear to be the result of a numbering error and then a numbering correction which not quite perfectly corrects the error. In 1969 and 1970 there was a skip back in frame numbers of 1,291 units, and then a skip forward of 1,301 units. Except for the difference of 10 units, this appears to be a situation of error and correction. No harm, no foul. There are two other anomalies which may be from a different kettle of fish altogether. Firstly, there is a 2,400-unit jump from the end of the Road Toads to the first of the Wombat 03s, that are known of, although that may raise a question—how many Wombat 03s were sold to other buyers, not known to PABATCO? Or did Hodaka plan on selling 2,400 units secretly? Secondly, there is a 300-unit anomaly in the 250cc model numbering. Were there 300 units of the 250 SL sold secretly or planned to be sold secretly? H o d a k a P r o d u ct i o n Production Numbers by Model Year Model Model # Frame Letter Beg.
