Oak Grove Receives Mission Award
June 19, 2016 FIFTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST Oak Grove Receives Mission Award On June 8, at the North Georgia Annual Conference meeting in Athens, Oak Grove received a 2015 Church of Excellence in Mission Award. Only 11 churches in our conference of nearly 1000 churches received this award. The Church of Excellence Award is given to churches who meet a long list of criteria. The following are some of the things that Oak Grove has done to earn this award: • Established mission as a priority for our church. • Held a mission fair to celebrate our missions and help people find their place in mission. • Had a covenant relationship with a GBGM missionary, as we do with Helen Roberts Evans, the missionary we support financially and work with in Liberia. • Participated in local sustained mission activities like Caring4Clarkston, Toco Hills Community Alliance, Mountain View Foot Care, Mobile Soup Kitchen, and Montclair Blessing Bags. • Taken three international mission trips: two to Honduras and one to Costa Rica. • Paid apportionments in full. This is our giving to the general church, much of which funds our shared missions. Your weekly giving helped us meet this goal. • Participated in special conference offerings that supported missions like Wesley Woods and The United Methodist Children’s Home. • Subscribed to New World Outlook, a mission magazine. Check out our copy in the church library. • Contributed to the Advance, which supported missions like Heifer International, Breakthru House, Murphy Harpst Children’s Center, Action Ministries, and New American Pathways. • Supported our district’s Bridge to Mission in Portugal through giving and an educational Wednesday night program. As you can see, Oak Grove has been very active in missions – and this list doesn’t even begin to cover everything do. Thank you Oak Grove for sharing your time and resources in mission! Not only did we win an award, we’ve helped countless people in the name of Christ! 8:30 and 11 a.m. ORDER OF WORSHIP June 19, 2016 Fifth Sunday after Pentecost (Please complete and pass the red friendship pad at this time.) Taken from the second half of the word “Gwinnett,” The Nett Church seeks to cast a wide “nett” in the Lilburn area to form a multi-ethnic, mission-centered congregation. Oak Grove has already assisted with two Sunday morning worship days, and now we want to dig deeper in our support by helping The Nett Church as they reach out to their community.
