Asian Celebration
Students, family members,
staff and volunteers
gathered at Black Fox
Elementary, Thursday, May
14, to learn about and
celebrate Asian culture.
The evening included
cultural displays, food
tastings, craft
demonstrations and a
scavenger hunt.
Several performers including
the Confucius Institute, the
Black Fox Laos Children,
and the Saudi Student
Association provided
entertainment for the crowd.
Summer Food Service Program
MCS announces its sponsorship of the Summer Food Service
Program (SFSP). Free, healthy meals will be available to
children 18 years of age and under without regard to race,
color, national origin, sex, age or handicap at 30 locations
around the city. Locations will offer one free breakfast and
lunch per weekday.

Third grade students from around the district toured the MTSU
Dairy Farm on May 12 for the Farm to School Field trip.
Students were able to tour several areas of the farm including
the greenhouse, garden, dairy barn and farm equipment.
Each tour also included an education station where students
participated in a hands-on activity that highlighted the
agricultural processes of seed germination or churning butter.
This experience was arranged as part the MCS Farm to School
grant which aims to connect students to the farmers that
supply our food and the processes they use to provide fresh,
nutritious and quality foods to our community.

Bee
BUS (Buses United for Safety) Program
The MCS Transportation Department brought their bus safety
program to several classrooms around the district this spring.
Students were reintroduced to the rules of bus riding such as

sitting with their backpacks in their laps and how to properly
cross the street when boarding or leaving the bus. They were
excited to switch positions with the drivers and assistants in a
role playing exercise that demonstrated how noise and
disruptions can affect everyone's safety on the bus. Students
also watched a video explaining how bus cameras record rides
to ensure safety protocols are followed.
Great transportation! Thanks for continually keeping our
children safe.
Gabriel Carver from
Northfield Elementary eked
out a victory at the 2015
Read to Bee Spelling Bee
on April 18th.
18 spellers competed for 25
rounds until Gabriel bested
his final competitor by
spelling the words armistice
and tomahawk correctly.

25th Annual
MCS Art Show Winners
Students, family, teachers, and more gathered in the City Hall
Rotunda for this year's MCS Art Show reception.
There were over 120 submissions into this year's exhibit which
was displayed at City Hall from March 17 -May 1. Student
artwork was judged by grade level and each category
consisted of a 3-1 place prize winner as well as Honorable
Mention among each grade level.
Winners from this art show move on to the MTSU Winners
Competition where artwork from the city and county art shows
will be displayed and judged in a combined competition.

There were 358 competing
teams across TN in both
Junior and Senior Divisions.
Overall Creek's top
team ranked 28th in the
state out of 358 teams.
All participating Rutherford
County teams were
sponsored by the Jennings
and Rebecca Jones
Foundation. Teams were
also encouraged to enlist
professional help while
enrolled in the program and
Mr. John Nelson, parent to a
participating student, offered
his banking and stock
trading expertise.
