One-Off Ferrari Testa D’Oro Colani for Sale at $1.7 Million
The bespoke Ferrari Testa D’Oro Colani is currently up for sale from an Italian dealership. While not an official
Ferrari model, the car’s underpinnings are from the famed automaker and it will sit any prospective customer’s back
a casual $1.7 million.
The Ferrari Testa D’Oro Colani is the vision of industrial designer Luigi Colani. It was created to set new top speed
records at the Bonneville Salt Flats and is based around the Ferrari Testarossa. With that being said, very little of
the D’Oro Colani comes from the Testarossa and many of the parts that do have been extensively modified.
Most namely of those is the Testarossa’s flat-12 engine. Not satisfied with the standard engine, Colani employed
Lotec and Ferrari to upgrade the engine. They did so with the installation of two turbochargers and a range of other
modifications. All told, the car delivers in excess of 750 hp and at Bonneville in 1991, it managed to reach a top
speed of 350 km/h, winning its class.
Of course the most eye-catching element of the car is its unique design. Created with aerodynamics as the key
objective, the car features an exceptionally long front overhang as well as an elongated windscreen. Exceptionally
thin pillars are also featured while the interior is stripped out with racing seats fitted directly to the floor. (Brad

Ferrari Gets International Engine of the Year Award
Few could argue against the superb qualities of Ferrari’s
naturally aspirated 4.5-liter V-8 (especially when judged
alongside its turbocharged, jimmy-rustling replacement), and now, NA fanboys can point to the 2015 International
Engine of the Year Awards as further proof of its excellence.
Picking winners for the annual awards was a panel of motoring journalists from over 30 nations, who judged each
shortlisted powerplant on personal driving impressions, technical specifications, fuel economy, smoothness,
performance, sound and drivability.
This year, Ferrari’s 4.5-liter V-8 took home two awards, including Performance Engine of the Year and best-in-class
for the Above 4-liter category.
This isn’t the first time the engine has been awarded such accolades – it also won the same two awards in 2011,
2012 and 2014. Interrupting a clean five-year streak was the naturally aspirated, 740-horsepower 6.3-liter V-12 in
the 2013 Ferrari F12berlinetta, which took home the same two awards in 2013 (the V-8 came in second).
Vittorio Dini, Ferrari’s powertrain department head, had this to say: “For our team, winning both these titles for the
fourth time is a crowning achievement that testifies to the world-class performance of our naturally aspirated V-8
engine family.”
Other winners at this year’s awards include Ford’s
1.0-liter turbo three-cylinder (which won the best-in-class
Under-1.0-liter category for the fourth time), Tesla’s
pure electric powertrain (Best Green Engine), and BMW’s
turbo 1.5-liter three-cylinder hybrid (Best New Engine, best-in-class 1.4-1.8-liter, and the top-honor International
Engine of the Year). (Jonathon Lopez)

Nurburgring Bans Lap Records
In a move that effectively resets the leaderboard for the world’s leading performance car manufacturers, the top
brass overseeing Germany’s infamous Nurburgring
race track have decided to ban automakers from attempting
and publishing record times.
The news comes from the folks behind APEX, a yet-to-be-released documentary on the technological clash
between the most recently released breed of halo cars. The people associated with the doc had originally arranged
to spend a week at the ‘Ring with Christian Von Koenigsegg and the 2015 Koenigsegg One:1
prepared to make an attempt at a new lap record. It was all part of Koenigsegg’s
hypercar
as he
three-year plan to establish the
One:1 as the fastest production car in the world, but days before departing for Germany, the APEX team received
notice that new restrictions had been put in place. Now, it looks like the Swedish manufacturer will need to find a
new benchmark to back its claims, along with every other sports car maker in the world.
The reasoning behind the ban? It’s reported that the DMSB, German motorsport’s
governing body, made the
decision based on an accident that occurred earlier this year at a VLN Nurburgring Endurance event in which the
No.23 Nissan GT-R driven by British driver Jann Mardenborough flipped into the spectator side of the catch fence
at the Flugplatz corner. One spectator was killed and several others were injured.
The incident prompted the establishment of speed restrictions on several sections of the track, including a 124-mph
limit at the Flugplatz, Antoniusbuche, and Schwedenkreuz corners. The Dottinger Hohe section is now under a 155mph limit.
Nurburgring management says it will review the restrictions by the end of the year. (Lopez)

Pininfarina Celebrates 85 Years with Some of its Greatest Designs
Design house Pininfarina has been in business for 85 years (since 1930) and, according to Car Magazine, the
company isn’t about to let that achievement pass by quietly.
In those 85 years, Pininfarina has designed everything from toothbrushes to high-speed trains to drink fountains.
But the company is most famous for its long history of car design. Pininfarina has styled some of the greatest
Ferraris ever made including the Enzo, 212 Inter, 365 GTB/4 Daytona, and the Testarossa of the ’80s and ’90s.
Some of the brands most influential and beautiful cars will be trotted out on June 13th as part of the Parco Valentino
car festival in Turin. Pininfarina will hold a special concours competition at the event for designs with awards for
“Best in Show” and “Most Elegant Car.”
Pininfarina’s designs of the 1940s utilized unique design features that made them look far more modern than their
contemporaries. In a time when most manufacturers designed cars with large, pontoon-like front fenders,
Pininfarina integrated them neatly with the hood giving us the modern front end profile that became commonplace in
the 1950s. Austin actually bought a 6C 2500 to use as a design inspiration for the 1949 Austin Atlantic.

Pininfarina’s long history with Ferrari began with the absolutely perfectly proportioned 212 Inter of the early 1950s.
The car sported a tiny 2.6L V12 with pistons that were surely the size of thimbles. It was to be a first in a long line of
beautiful Pininfarina-styled Ferraris.
The design house flourished in the 1960s and produced a host of landmark designs including the timeless Alfa
Romeo Duetto (the same basic design survived until the 1990s), the iconic Dino 206 and 246, and the humble but
pretty Fiat 850 Spider.
The automotive landscape has changed constantly and quickly since Pininfarina was established in 1930. But the
company has done an impressive job of staying on top of and in front of the trends in a fast-paced industry. (Clayton

Keanu Reeves Drives Ferrari 488 GTB at Fiorano Test Track
Keanu Reeves is usually a fan of two-wheeled transport and has only owned two cars in his life, a vintage Volvo
and a modern Porsche. Despite this, Motor Authority reports that the Hollywood star recently made a trip to
Maranello to visit the Ferrari factory and check out the manufacturer’s newest supercar, the 488 GTB.
In the video below, complete with funky music, Keanu makes a few escorted laps with a Ferrari driver and then
trades places to drive a few laps for himself. The actor exits the car with a smile but there’s no word on whether or
not he’s placed an order on the car.

F1 Austrian Grand Prix: Raikkonen’s Ferrari Future to be Decided by Marchionne
Maurizio Arrivabene says he won't make the final decision on whether Kimi Raikkonen will stay with Ferrari next
season, but insists the team is in no rush to determine his future either way.
Despite an improved start to the 2015 season relative to last year, Raikkonen remains under pressure to perform in
relation to new team-mate Sebastian Vettel, who has been consistently the stronger of the two drivers after eight
races.
Now 48 points behind Vettel after his crash out of the Austrian Grand Prix, Raikkonen's future has once again been
called into question, but Arrivabene insists his chances of staying with Ferrari next season remains dependent on
more factors than individual races.
“It is not a question of today or yesterday... of course you have a deadline and I am not going to tell you when the
deadline is, but it is an overall view that is conducting our decision,” he said. “I was talking about performance.
Performance means a holistic approach, how is he dealing with the engineers, how is he working with the
engineers, how is he getting points, how he is getting on, how he speaks, how it is working out - many, many, many
things and now it is early to tell him something or to decide something.
“We are not even at the halfway point of the season. Try to be in my position and to go to Kimi, for example, to say
either you are out or you are in or whatever. I want the guys to be concentrated on what they are doing today and to
give us the maximum.”
Regardless, Arrivabene says that while his opinion will be taken into account, the ultimate decision will still fall to
Ferrari president Sergio Marchionne.
“I will suggest my point of view and then we need to talk to the President to make the final decision. In the normal
world, normal companies work like this. If you are the President you can do whatever you want. If you are not, you
have to share your decision to get the approval.”

Ferrari Promises to Revive ‘Dino’ Nameplate
A Ferrari for the rich playboy, rather than the filthy rich playboy. That was the raison d’etre of the Dino badge when
Ferrari rolled it out in 1967.
The Dino, named after the son of founder Enzo Ferrari, had all the breeding and curves of the company’s race cars,
only with a smaller engine and price tag. The first iterations had six cylinders — half as many as Ferrari was known
for.
It was a prancing pony among thundering thoroughbreds, and more than any other vehicle it helped the company
steer from the racetrack onto the road. Critically, it was the first road-going Ferrari to have its engine between the
front and back wheels, a bit of blocking and tackling that made for better, more balanced handling while letting
designers sculpt a daintier, more- aerodynamic nose.
Now, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has promised us another Dino, which would be the first in almost 40 years. Sergio
Marchionne says it’s “not a question of if, but when.”
The Fiat chief is trying to goose the Ferrari brand a bit in advance of an initial public offering later this year. But he
also said a Dino 2.0 wouldn’t be “cheap.” Nor would it be solely a way to stretch the brand lower down the market.
The expected sweet spot is somewhere around $240,000 in exchange for 500 horsepower. In that range, it will
square off against the Porsche 911, as it did decades ago.
Still, prospective buyers shouldn’t expect to skip the standard Ferrari waiting list. These will be hot; these days,
vintage Dinos are among the more coveted models in the Ferrari family. The seminal model from 1967 is worth
almost $800,000, nearly four times what it fetched five years ago, according to Hagerty Insurance. (Kyle Stock)

Ferrari F12 GTO to Debut at Frankfurt Motor Show 2015
GTspirit has just received word that at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show 2015 in September, Ferrari’s brand new F12
GTO will celebrate its world debut. This news comes just a few days after additional details and spy shots about the
hardcore F12 emerged online.
Underpinning the F12 GTO will be a naturally-aspirated 6.3-litre V12 engine just like the standard model. However,
power will be increased from 740 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque to around the 800 hp mark. Although unconfirmed, there
is a suggestion that the HY-KERS system from the LaFerrari could be carried over into the GTO. A number of other
technologies pioneered on the LaFerrari could also be featured on the car.
Whatever the case may be, the Ferrari F12 GTO will be exceptionally fast thanks to its additional power.
Additionally, the car will shed over 100 kg compared to the F12 Berlinetta meaning it should weigh around 1415 kg.
Beyond the performance modifications, the car will be adorned with unique and menacing new bodywork as with all
other Ferrari models to wear the iconic GTO badge throughout the years.
Production will be limited to a mere 650 examples with customer deliveries to start in the second quarter of 2016.

Maserati Boomerang Heading to Auction
The one-off Maserati Boomerang Concept is set to go under the hammer at Bonhams upcoming auction in France.
Originally unveiled in 1971 for the Turin Motors Show, the Boomerang Concept is tipped to sell for between 3 and 4
million euros.
Based around the Maserati Bora, the Boomerang is noteworthy for its unique wedge shape designed by Giugiaro.
The nose of the car is extremely angular and bold while straight lines and sharp edges complete the car.
Despite the car’s outlandish looks, it actually features an operational powertrain with a V8 engine delivering 300 hp
and accelerating the car to 300 km/h. Even more incredible is the fact that it is fully road registered.
Bonhams European head of motoring, Philip Kantor said “The Boomerang was the first car of its time to create such
a strong, angular style statement. It’s considered by many to be one of the most remarkable designs of the 20th
century and the ‘grandfather’ to the Volkswagen Golf Mk 1. The Boomerang has been shown at many world-class
events including exhibitions and concours d’élégance such as Villa d’Este and Pebble Beach, and is now offered at
Bonhams first ever sale in Chantilly.”

THE PINNACLE PORTFOLIO | BY RM AUCTIONS
World renown classic car auction house RM Auctions, have presented the world’s most expensive car collection

unprecedented rarity of automotive distinction. Amongst the collection are some rarities such as the first-production
Bugatti Veyron, one of 20 Lamborghini Reventons ever made, and the penultimate road-going McLaren F1 ever
built, and the last Ferrari Enzo (the previous owner being Pope John Paul II). After the jump are some of the
incredible vehicles that will be offered in this auction, expected to net the owner over $65 million once each vehicle

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta Vs. Ferrari 599 GTO
The trouble with being a car company that builds massively technologically advanced no-expense-spared machines
is that you can only say that in press releases so many times before people start tuning it out, assuming that it’s just
part of your marketing to makes those claims. So sometimes the best way to prove that a company really is making
big technological strides is to pit a current car against the fastest version of its predecessor in a drag race.
And
that is exactly what you’ll see in this video, a 2013 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta up against a 2011 Ferrari 599 GTO.
Just looking at numbers will tell you that the 730-horsepower F12 is more powerful than the 661-horsepower 599
GTO, but power numbers don’t tell the whole story, and it’s really beneficial to see a practical demonstration. And it
is all the more important because the cars are using different versions of the same engine, Ferrari’s
Tipo F140,
and this shows evolving engine technology. (Jacob Joseph)

Video Compares Pit Stops in F1 Racing, NASCAR, Indy Car and More
F1 Racing is like driving jets on the ground. NASCAR is like racing monster cars in sheet metal around an oval. Indy
Car are powerful beasts themselves. Each type of racing has their own unique demands and needs. Here is a video
that shows the difference between pit stops in F1 Racing, NASCAR, Indy Car, Formula E and WEC.
F1 Racing is the fastest as they have the most crew members (14+) and don’t allow re-fueling mid-race. Indy Car
and NASCAR use 6 crew members and re-fuels. Formula E only has 2 crew members but the driver changes cars
completely. And the WEC uses 2 crew members to change the tires, 2 crew members to change drivers and a new
driver comes in during the pit stop. (Chan)

US-Qatari Move to Take over Formula One
The owner of the Miami Dolphins, the American football team, is teaming up with Qatar to take control of Formula
One, in a $7 billion to $8 billion deal that could see the sport finally break into the US market (Tweet this).
RSE Ventures, a company founded by the 75-year-old property and sports tycoon Stephen Ross, wants to buy 35.5
percent of the holding company that owns F1 from Europe's largest buyout group CVC Capital Partners. It is being
backed by Qatar Sports Investments, which also owns the Paris Saint-Germain football club.
Any deal would see Bernie Ecclestone, F1's chief executive, also sell his holding of roughly 5 percent. "My shares
will be sold together with theirs," he said. Qatar is believed to want to ultimately buy the whole of F1. Even if
Ecclestone does sell his shareholding, a person close to the talks said RSE was keen to keep the 84-year-old
involved and had discussed the idea with him. "They believe he brings a lot to the sport and they can help expand it
into the US and Chinese markets," the person said.
RSE is believed to be a few weeks away from a formal bid and in the diligence stage. CVC said it had not yet
received a bid and declined to comment on the talks. Ecclestone said he was not yet aware of a "deal on the table".
The FIA, the motor sport regulator, has not yet received an application to approve the transaction.
The last major public attempt to buy into F1 came last year when Liberty Global and Discovery Communications
tried but failed to buy a 49 percent stake. Ross is chairman of Related Companies, an international property group
with more than $20 billion of assets which helped to develop New York's Time Warner Center.
Ross also owns the NFL's Miami Dolphins and has been in talks over bringing a Major League Soccer team to
Miami together with David Beckham.
RSE Ventures, a sports and entertainment venture firm, was formed in 2012 when Mr Ross partnered with Matt
Higgins, who was chief operating office of the company responsible for leading the rebuilding effort of the World
Trade Center site in New York. (Malcolm Moore, Arash Massoudi, Simeon Kerr and Joseph Cotterill)

Ferrari Bringing Tailor Made California T to Goodwood
Ferrari has announced plans to bring a Tailor Made California T to this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed.
After introducing a bespoke California T earlier this year at Auto Shanghai, Ferrari's Tailor Made division has
prepared another one, only this time it adopts a right-hand drive layout which makes sense since it will be shown in
UK. Inspired by the "passion and colors of Polo and Horse racing", the unique open-top prancing horse adopts a
three-layer Bianco Italia paint and rides on 20-inch forged wheels finished in Blue Hellen and Argento Nürburgring.
It comes with a Blue Sterling interior cabin where Ferrari's specialists have applied a new "Mycro Prestige" fabric
which they say is just 0.7 mm thick and has only one-third the weight of regular leather upholstery. The breathable
and porous material is also waterproof, flameproof and promises to offer an "exceptional level of grip."
The one-off California T is going to be showcased inside Ferrari's VIP hospitality enclosure for the company's clients
who will also have the possibility to check out a plethora of materials offered through the Tailor Made program.

TrunkMonkey Bike Rack Inflates into Shape
Built for road-tripping cyclists, bicycle commuters and anyone that might be worried about having to hitchhike home
with a broken chain, the TrunkMonkey represents an easier, more portable style of bicycle rack. Its designers call it
the first portable, inflatable, universal bike carrier in the world. When not in use, it rolls up like a camping mattress,
making it a ready travel companion.
The idea for the TrunkMonkey was born when company founder Tyler Nelson's regularly scheduled bicycle
commute home from campus was interrupted by untimely storming. The raging wind and rain hammered Nelson
before a sliver of light shined down from the heavens - or so it seemed. A friend pulled over to give Nelson a ride,
and despite wanting desperately to jump inside the warm, dry shelter-on-wheels, he had to turn it down. There was
no way of squeezing his bike into the small coupe. Misery bred innovation, and Nelson got to work on a better way
that very evening.
For more information contact Craig Forbes (678) 802-5000 cforbes@ferrariofatlanta.com
June 26th, 2015
Nelson's idea is an inflatable bicycle rack that leaps onto the back of virtually any vehicle like an over-friendly
primate. The inflatable cushion transforms the simple set of nylon straps, which you might otherwise use to crudely
lash your bike to the roof or trunk, into a fully functional bike carrier designed to protect both car and bike. A
Cordura/Kevlar outer shell protects the polyvinyl inflatable core, helping the TrunkMonkey hold up to the abuse of
road and man.
While not a solution for every cyclist out there, it's easy to see how the TrunkMonkey is much more versatile than
traditional roof, trunk and hitch carrying racks. It has more to do with the deflation than the inflation. The
TrunkMonkey packs down into a carry case that also holds the 12 V pump. The entire package is about the size of
a 2-liter soda bottle and can mount right under the saddle of your bike. It weighs just over 6 lb (2.7 kg), and if you
want to cut weight, you can leave the pump at home and inflate it manually.
The TrunkMonkey's lightweight, ultraportable design means that you can have an available bike rack every time you
hit the road on your bike. So if you get caught in weather like Nelson did, or decide to pedal over to the bar to meet
some friends and want to have a designated driver take you home, or get stuck late at work and don't want to bike
home, or any number of other scenarios, you can easily take the generous offer of a car ride and bring your bike
along.
Nelson and his team have designed the rack to fit all types of vehicles with trunks or hatchback tailgates. The
TrunkMonkey is also made to work with various different bike frame styles, though given the types of oddball twowheeled creations we see here at Gizmag, we're sure there are styles out there that might not fit, or at least require
a little extra creativity. All you have to do is hook the pump up to the vehicle's 12 V outlet, spend about two minutes
inflating the core, secure the rack straps to the vehicle and strap your bike in. When you arrive at your destination,
the two-way pump makes deflation quick and simple.

June 26th, 2015
The TrunkMonkey doesn't just have to be an emergency tool. It could prove useful for those who want a simple,
affordable bicycle carrier for regular bike hauling. It could also be helpful for travel, packing into a suitcase or duffel
bag and serving as a versatile carrier at your destination. Really, if you're a cyclist, you're probably thinking of many
other ways such a light, portable bike rack could come in handy for your own cycling trips.
TrunkMonkey's team launched a Kickstarter campaign on Monday and is offering the full kit (carrier, pump and stuff
sack) for pledge levels starting at US$100, a third off the estimated retail price of $150. If everything goes as
anticipated, it will begin deliveries in August.

EVENTS
Join us this year on July 19th as we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Keeneland Concours, which has become
Kentucky's premiere automotive lifestyle event.
For our 2014 featured marque, we're doing something a little different. Instead of honoring a single automaker,
we're inviting back the class winners from the past 10 years. We'll feature a Winners Circle Reunion, and celebrate
10 years of automotive excellence and supporting the Kentucky Children's Hospital.
We'll have our usual collection of exquisite automobiles, spanning the earliest years of the motorcar to the future
classics of today. From exquisite European beauties to burly American Iron, there's something for every car lover.
The Concours festivities also include the Hangar Bash, Bourbon Tour, Tour d'Elegance and a full weekend of fun.
Don't miss favorites like the Automotive Artists, Silent Auction and of course the popular car raffle. Click on the
"Event Schedule" link to see all the events.

st
with an optional day on the 30th
Dear FCA Members,
We have had such a great response on this year’s event that I thought it was important that I send out
another reminder. We have limited rooms at the Biltmore and once they are gone they are gone. With the
tremendous response I believe we are already running low so if you are thinking of coming I would
recommend that you book a room at our special club discount. Details for the event as well as how to book
the hotel are in the previous email below. You can also download the registration from the website at
www.FCA-NC.org under the Biltmore tab.
Hope to see you there,

It is that time of year that we announce our largest event on our calendar. The Biltmore event had 115
people in attendance and over 40 Ferraris. This event has doubled in the past few years and it is always
because everyone that comes has such a great time. This year we are hoping for another big
turnout. The weekend is filled with group rallies on some of the best roads anywhere, fantastic meals
prepared by the world renowned chefs of the Biltmore, the beautiful surroundings of the Biltmore Estate
and FERRARIS. What more could you ask for?
This year we are again doing the optional Thursday evening and Friday lunch. This gives those traveling
from far away to have an extra day in the area and an extra day to enjoy the fabulous roads. Thursday
evening and Friday's rally and lunch are Pay as You Go so join us for everything or just have an extra day
to relax.
If you have never attended a weekend getaway with the club, I urge you to do so. I did my first weekend 5
or 6 years ago and I haven't missed any since. There is no better way to get to know the wonderful
