Mendenhall, Shannon Davis, Rachel Maloney, Debra I am excited about our five new teachers this year. These teachers are energetic, passionate about the subjects they teach, and are able to connect students’ interests with the curriculum. I have also noticed they are doing a great job of building relationships with their students. Dimalanta, Rachel Maloney, Gail St. John, John This year also promises to be exciting in the area of theater art. The Advanced Drama class will be performing “Skin of our Teeth” and “Legally Blonde.” One of the Beginning Drama productions will be “Alice in Wonderland.” Lubeck, Sara Cowan, Geoff Cowan I want to thank all of the parents involved in the PTSA, the site council, Music Boosters, and any other volunteer activity at MCAA. These parents give their precious time and energy so that we can buy sound equipment, repair instruments, pay for field trips, provide scholarships, and much more. All first semester schedule changes have been made so students will need to keep their current classes until second semester at which time they will have the opportunity to request a change. The fall is a busy time of year, especially for seniors. I have reviewed senior transcripts to make sure students are on track for high school graduation. I will also be meeting with seniors over the next few months to review their plans for after graduation and offer support as needed. The application window for seniors who plan to apply to a California State University (CSU) or University of California (UC) school is just around the corner. The CSU window opens October 1st and remains open until November 30th. UC applications are currently available online; however, the submission window is only open November 1st through November 30th. Private universities and out-of-state schools set their own deadlines so students should research the specific schools they are interested in to ensure they meet all deadlines. Students who plan to attend a community college next year will not need to start the application process until the spring semester. Yuba College will be hosting College Information Day on Wednesday, September 16th. Seniors will have the opportunity to attend this free event where they will be able to meet with college representatives from Yuba College, as well as other universities from around the state and beyond. I will be visiting the Civics classes to give students an opportunity to sign up. If your senior does not have Civics, please have them stop by the Counseling Office as soon as possible if they are interested in attending this event. Students who are 4-year college bound should take the SAT and/or ACT entrance exams. Seniors who plan to apply to a university this fall must have completed at least one of these tests by no later than December 2015. Juniors who plan to be eligible for a 4-year university should consider taking the SAT and/or ACT in the spring. Upcoming SAT test dates are October 3rd, November 7th and December 5th. Upcoming ACT dates are October 24th and December 12th. Registration deadlines are typically about a month prior to the actual test date, so sign up now. Fee waivers are available based on income. Stop by the Counseling Office for more information about fee waivers, practice tests or how to register. In order to prepare for the SAT, MCAA will be offering 30 juniors the opportunity to take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 14th. The PSAT is an exam geared toward helping students prepare for the SAT. The SAT will be undergoing major revisions beginning with the Spring 2016 administration – these changes will be reflected on the PSAT and should help students prepare for the new version of the test. Students who will be taking the test will be given a study guide later this month. Fall is always a busy time of year, but please don’t hesitate to contact me if I can be of assistance to you or your student. Contact MCAA: 749-6157 8 MCAA’s Dragon Tales September 2015 Dear Parents, We (MCAA), as a community, are revising our school’s vision and mission. In order to help us accomplish this, I am asking all parents to complete a short questionnaire. These questions also let us know how we are doing and where we need to focus more of our energy. There are two different questionnaires. One is for the parents of middle school students (grades 7-8) and one is for the parents of high school students (grades 9-12). In order for these questionnaire results to be valid, we are trying to get to as close to 100% completion as possible. You may manually enter the links below or access them at our school web site. The link for the questionnaire of parents of 7th and 8th graders is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ EFF_PAR68_Marysville_MCAA The link for the questionnaire of parents of high school students (9th – 12th graders) is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ EFF_PAR912_Marysville_MCAA I want to thank you in advance for completing the questionnaire. Tim Malone Principal, MCAA Contact MCAA: 749-6157 Attendance Office News Dear Parents: Help keep our school attendance percentage up! If your child has a doctor, dentist, or personal appointment, it really helps our school if they can be present part of the day. Please call me to verify your child’s absences, also for absences of 1 day or more please call me to arrange short term independent study. First quarter progress reports will be sent home September 21. Aeries.net parent and student information will be sent home for new students. New students will not be able to make an Aeries.net account until they have returned the school technology use form in the parent’s rights packet. So be sure to return it to the office.
