Here I am with my head spinning after attending a great
Scorpions concert. I also think that BAC has a lot of fantastic events and travel trips planned for the upcoming
months.
General meeting
October 12, 2015 -- Do not forget to attend the General
meeting in October. This will be your last chance to ask
Paul Vlasveld
any questions about the upcoming SnowBomb Shows
BAC President
in San Francisco (Oct. 31st & Nov 1st) & San Jose
(Nov. 7th & 8th). Once again Jim McAlpine of SnowBomb is generously providing the BAC with a free booth at each location. This booth is used to promote all of our clubs! What we need from
you is your club’s informational Tri-folds, Picture Boards and Volunteers
from Your Club to talk to people as to why they need to join your club!
As a note: since this is a BAC Booth, please be sure to direct people to
the club in their local area!

for your club and to represent BAC as the Man or
Woman of the Year. These are those members who
tirelessly give of themselves to your club. These are
those members that keep your club vibrant and exciting. More information will be coming in December
and January.
Travel
Do not forget to start planning your next travel trip by
signing up for one of the following fantastic Bay Area
Snow Sports Council (BAC) mini-trips:
 Sun Peaks – Feb 27-Mar 4, 2016
Yes it's only September, but we are already over 50% filled on this amazing
trip! Numerous people have shown interest in
going with us to . . .
The 2nd Largest Ski Area in all of Canada! Yes, Sun Peaks has three mountains to
ski off of and 4,270 skiable acres for people of
all abilities. Plus plenty of activities for our non
-skier/boarder friends.
 Park City – Mar 10-Mar 15, 2016 – This has
been BAC’s most popular mini-trips. The cost
is just $1158.
 FWSA also has several trips including the Annual Ski Week to Telluride, a Dive trip later
this summer, and a Crested Butte mini-trip.
Information has been published about the
Crested Butte Mini-trip.
Upcoming Events
In the coming months, we will have some fantastic
events that have become Bay Area Council of Ski
Clubs signature events.
nd
 Nov 2 2015 – 7th Annual Winterfest Celebration Meeting at The Englander in San
Leandro. We invite Club Presidents, BAC
Reps & Travel Directors to this meeting. Due
to Limited Space, we must stand fast on how
many can represent each club. The evening
will begin with a Silent Auction / Travel Carousel & Raffle. Then we go into the next room for
dinner and presentation of all winners. The
popularity of this event continues to grow with
our Industry Partners. There will be a flat rate
(TBD) for everyone who attends this meeting. You will receive entrance, 1 drawing
ticket & dinner. You can pay for the banquet thru Paypal. See the event listing at
www.skibac.org.
 It is also a birthday party celebrating Bay Area
Snow Sports Council’s 75th year. Cathy Wilson has generously offered to make a birthday

November 7 – Ice Hockey – Our last Sharks
hockey event was a fun event that helped
raise much needed support for the FWSA Athletic Scholarship fund. Watch for more information about this hockey fun day. We still
have spaces left. Go to the website to sign-up.
October/November -- The SnowBomb Shows
are going to be here soon! Oct 31 & Nov 1,
2015 at Ft. Mason in San Francisco and Nov 7
& 8, 2015 at the San Jose Convention Center.
The BAC will once again have a booth to
share information about our clubs and why
people should become members. Cathy Wilson has created a great trifold template for
clubs to use to promote their clubs at the ski
shows. We will need some enthusiastic club
members to help out at the ski shows.
“Pebble Beach Golf” – Dennis is organizing a
Pebble beach golf event that will allow you to
brag that you golfed “at Pebble Beach”. We
will be golfing on the Peter Hay 9 hole Executive Course “at Pebble Beach”. It will be
Thursday November 5, 2015. See Dennis’
article for further details
Racing
The racing schedule has been published. Racer
signup will begin in November.
Remember, Racing is for everyone from beginner to
expert. All ages are welcome.
Racing is a great way to meet other club members.
If you are interested in racing check the Open league
and Singles league websites and your club racing
team.

President Paul Vlasveld called
the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.

The A’s game and BBQ were fantastic. Dennis
found a great location at the ball park, since our
group is too large for the parking lot. The raffle
raised $278 for DSUSA. Paul announced that
BAC will try to plan for the same time/date
(August 3rd weekend) next year.
Nov 7 - BAC’s Second Annual Hockey Game –
San Jose Sharks vs Anaheim Ducks. This
event has been organized by Dennis Heffley.
Purchase tickets by Oct 1, make check payable
to BAC, or use PayPal on the website. The
game is at 7:30 p.m. Meet at Brittania Arms,
nearby, for a pre-game stretch and then a walk to
the Shark Tank. Flyers are available. This event
benefits the Far West Ski Foundation, a tax deductible organization that provides scholarships
to ski racers, and also supports the “fly girls” and
organizations such as the Vail Handicapped program. A specific ski racer can be named to receive funds, but that ski racer must also apply
and be accepted to be part of the Foundation
program.
SnowBomb Shows – Club tri-folds should be in
preparation so clubs can be represented at these
Shows. Give them to BAC for the booth or take
them to the SnowBomb shows to work the BAC
booth. Tri-folds market your club and are given
to visitors who live or work in your club’s area.
Golf at Pebble Beach – Thursday, Nov 5 - Sign
up for golf at the Peter Hay course. Cost is $30
for golf and entry; 17-mile drive cost to be refunded (keep your receipt). Rental clubs are

BAC General Meeting
Secretary: Karen Davis – Dennis Heffley moved
to accept the August 10, 2015 meeting minutes;
seconded by Igor Goulaevsky. The minutes were
unanimously approved.
Communications: Dennie Warren – Dennie enjoyed the A’s writeup by Cathy Wilson. All clubs
are invited to send event flyers and write-ups to
Dennie for publication in the BAC newsletter.
BAC’s newsletter won 1st place in the FWSA
Awards of 2015.
Website: Cathy Wilson – Cathy will revamp the
club section of the website (www.skibac.org).
The club listing link will go directly to each club’s
website in the future. That will eliminate incorrect
info listings on the BAC website. Be sure Cathy
has the rep’s email address so each club rep can
receive Yahoo group emails.
Benefits: Sandy Kiyomura – Unable to attend
this meeting.
Communities: Harry Davis – Harry thanked all
those who attended the A’s game, and also those
who purchased raffle tickets to benefit DSUSA/
Far West. Haakon’s two lovely daughters also
sold raffle tickets for the Gold Pass; tickets were
to be pulled at the Foam Fest (need not be present to win). A special thanks to the A’s for donated items and also to Heavenly for donated
items.

(6) BAC is hosting a trip to Sun Peaks, BC Canada, Feb 27 – March 4, 2016. Lodging will be at
Nancy Greene’s Cahilty Lodge, at an elevation of
4000’. The top mountain elevation is 7000’.
There are 4270 skiable acres, on three separate
peaks. There is skiing for all abilities. The mountain has tree islands – spacious areas so skiers
and riders can ski into the trees without being
committed to tight tree runs. One option for participants is dinner on the slope, and ski down using headlamps. Ski rentals are available at 10%
discount. The cost of $1285 includes RT air, 6
nights lodging, welcome, ground transportation,
and a daily hot breakfast. Options on the Sports
America.com website include paying by check, a
senior discount if over 65, etc. Check the website for all options and to pay for your ski fun.
Flyers and info are available at this meeting and
will be on the website and in the BAC newsletter.
At this time, 24 have signed up and there are 16
more spots available.
(7) The FWSA 2017 Ski Week will be to Breckenridge, CO, Jan 28 to Feb 4, 2017.
Treasurer: Keith Wilson – Keith reported that he

This winter, all indications support the influence
of a moderate to strong El Niño, and we generally
know what kinds of regional precipitation and
