PROVEN SEAWATER LUBRICATED PROPELLER SHAFT BEARING SOLUTIONS
Thordon Bearings, a pioneer in the development of pollution
free bearing designs, offers a variety of choices of seawater
lubricated propeller shaft bearing systems for all water
conditions.
Rather than promoting the concept that one bearing solution
will work in all types of water conditions, Thordon has
developed four different bearing grades from which the
optimal bearing solution for each specific application and
vessel operating profile may be selected.
Thordon COMPAC
Thordon COMPAC is a high performance water lubricated bearing system primarily for
“blue water ” operating conditions. Specially formulated with a low coefficient of friction to
reduce startup friction and eliminate stick-slip, COMPAC's unique configuration is
designed to promote early formation of a hydrodynamic film at lower shaft rpm. The
lower (loaded) portion of the bearing is smooth, while the upper half of the bearing
incorporates water grooves for lubrication and cooling. Thordon COMPAC bearings are
available in either full form tubes or split configuration depending on the design
requirements.
Thordon XL
Our traditional standard propeller shaft bearing grade ,
Thordon XL is a general purpose bearing offering superior
performance compared to other bearings commonly used
in propeller shaft applications. XL provides good balance
between long wear life, low coefficient of friction , reasonable
abrasion resistance and cost effectiveness. Thordon XL is
available in a wide range of sizes in both tube and stave
configurations.
Thordon SXL
Thordon SXL offers a lower coefficient of friction for
reduced break-away torque and smoother operation at
lower shaft RPM, increased resistance to third particle
abrasive wear and improved wear life compared to XL.
Available in a wide range of sizes. SXL can be specified
in either tube or stave configurations.
Thordon Composite
Thordon Composite bearings are specially formulated to
provide superior wear life in very abrasive water conditions.
Composite bearings run in combination with hard coated
nickel-chrome-boron shaft sleeves routinely outlast rubber
propeller shaft bearings by a factor of two or more. This
outstanding performance has made Thordon Composite a
natural choice for cutter head dredge bearing applications.
More than 25 years of experience on hundreds of vessels
operating on America's muddy Mississippi River system
confirms real-life bearing wear at between 0.25mm - 0.38 mm
(0.010" - 0.015") per year. Composite can be specified in either
Tube or Stave configurations.

GREASE-FREE RUDDER BEARINGS
Thordon Rudder Bearing
Since 1972 Thordon Bearings has accumulated over 25,000
vessels of rudder experience. An impressive reference list of
demanding, yet satisfied, customer is available. Thordon
SXL is recognized as the proven choice for value,
guaranteed performance and freedom from pollution
concerns. In addition to pintle, stock and carrier bearings,
Thordon SXL can also be specified grease free in steering
gear and linkage applications. A separate detailed brochure
on Thordon Rudder Bearing Systems is available.
SXL Rudder Bearing Performance Guarantee
Thordon guarantees SXL rudder bearings will meet
Classification Society wear specifications for 15 years in new
build projects, or twice the life of the replaced non-Thordon bearing to a maximum of 10 years for repairs, or a new bearing will
be supplied free of charge
*The guarantee is subject to prior approval by Thordon Bearings Inc. & limited to the supply of replacement bearing(s).
THORPLAS FOR DECK EQUIPMENT APPLICATIONS
ThorPlas
Ensuring the smooth, reliable operation of all equipment
installed above the waterline is a tall order for a ship's Deck
Crew. Operating conditions are tough, and maintenance
requirements of the equipment onerous, with the onset of
bearing seizure usually imminent should periodic
maintenance be delayed or overlooked. Inadequately
greased bronze bushings and seawater shaft corrosion may
cause bushing seizure. Even sealed, rolling element
bearings often fail prematurely as a result of salt water
ingress past their simple contact seals or from the intermittent
impact loads this equipment is often subjected to.
The cost-effective, maintenance-free solution to solving many of these problems is ThorPlas, Thordon's new self-lubricating,
thermoplastic bearing material. Capable of dynamic operating pressures to 31MPa (4,500 psi), ThorPlas can be easily back-fit
into virtually all applications where greased bronze is currently installed. When a non-corroding pin or shaft liner is included as
part of the conversion as recommended, ThorPlas does not require greasing to ensure smooth operation. The lubricants
formulated throughout the homogenous ThorPlas polymer matrix ensure a low, stable coefficient of friction, even as the
bearing wears. In applications where movement is infrequent and there is significant exposure to salt water spray, if space
permits, high performance Thorseal lip seals can be considered to prevent the ingress of seawater and possible buildup of salt
deposits in the bearing. Wear rates are very low compared to greased bronze ensuring long life and dramatically reduced
maintenance costs.
With the elimination of grease, ThorPlas offers improved safety for the crew not having to grease these bushings located in
hard to reach locations. Greasefree ThorPlas also means the disappearance of unsightly grease from passenger view as well
as the potential of grease stains on clothing.
To facilitate maintenance while under way, ThorPlas can be easily and safely machined using on-board machining facilities
and then installed quickly. In-dock, ThorPlas is available from local Thordon distributors to meet the needs of the shipyard.

CORROSION & WATER-CONTROL bv
Don't worry about fouling & corrosion
With decades of experience in cathodic (corrosion) protection of steel structures and marine growth prevention ( for box
coolers and sea water intakes), we have been enjoying high reputations around the world for our expertise and knowhow. Supplemented by worldwide services and marketing distribution networks, we are a leading international supplier in
this field. For our core technological products (ICCP and ICAF/MGPS), they are the ultimate and most economical
solutions against corrosion and fouling.
Impressed Current Cathodic Protection Systems (ICCP)
Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system from Corrosion & WaterControl (CWC) , which utilizes the principle of shifting the natural potential of
metals, protects your ship durably and effectively against corrosion. This ICCP
system provides the ships with all round protection, including the protection for
the propulsion and rudder systems.
All the submerged metal parts of the vessel with the damage or ageing of coatings
are effectively protected by our ICCP system. A clear indication of your
coating's condition will be shown on our Touch Screen Display. All data can be
downloaded to an external computer and transferred by internet for checking .
System adjustment can also be made via the same procedure by uploading.

Impressed Current Anti-Fouling Systems (ICAF) /Marine Growth Prevention System (MGPS)
for Sea water intake / Boxcoolers
Sea water intake pipe-work / Box coolers
are always potential fouling victims.
Removing this kind of bio-fouling in the
pipe-work systems invariably increases the
maintenance costs considerably, and it also
affects heat transfer functions for the Box
coolers. Ships sailing in coastal water are
at the greatest danger. Our Impressed
Current Anti-fouling (ICAF) system / MGPS
is the best option to prevent this kind of
fouling .
The copper anodes of our ICAF/MGPS system mounted in the sea chest or strainer are connected to the Power Unit. This
Power Unit has a complete set of controlling functions and guarantees the amount of dissolved copper as required
into the seawater is minimum. The lifetime of anodes is prolonged to the maximum and the perfect protection is assured
under all conditions . In most of the cases , along with the copper anodes, aluminium or soft iron anodes must be
installed to protect the pipe-work against corrosion.

Cathodic protection can also be achieved by a more traditional way, namely
sacrificial anodes. This method is to connect the protected metal structures
with a more active metal or alloy. When two metals are electrically connected
to each other in an electrolyte (e.g. seawater), the more active metal (anode)
supplies current and dissolves (sacrifices) to effectively protect the other
metal (structures).
Sacrificial anodes are cast with high efficiency alloys and featured by light
weight and high amperage output. They can function economically and
efficiently without any maintenance during the operating period to control
the corrosion. Furthermore, after installation there are no labor costs
involved and no electrical supply is required.

Ships
Harbor installations
Offshore engineering
Underground structures

Seawater / water is a natural electrolyte of high corroding rate. On-/offshore
and harbor structures submerged in seawater / water or buried in the
ground are at the serious threat of corrosion , which challenges the safe
operation. These structures frequently have an expected service life of
decades. To survive, the structures must be protected from corrosion with
our Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system or sacrificial
anodes.
We developed an ICCP system, in which the size and shape of the Ti-MMO
anodes are tailor made in a unique way due to the different structures to be
protected. As a result , these tailor made anodes are easy to install and meet
the design of different structures.

FIRE PROTECTION
:
High-Technology fire fighting solutions for marine applications
Your total solution provider ...
Danfoss Semco has the experience and technological knowledge to provide you with fire fighting solutions designed in
accordance with IMO/SOLAS regulations and many classification societies and national authorities. Our team specialises in
meeting your specifications, no matter how specific, to supply precisely the system you need.
Sem-Safe Water Mist System
The Sem-Safe Water Mist System is unique. Water is forced through micro nozzles at very high
pressure to create a water mist with the most effective fire fighting drop size distribution. The
extinguishing effects give optimum protection by cooling, due to heat absorption, and inerting due to
the expansion of water by over 1,700 times when it evaporates.
The Sem-Safe Water Mist System provides better protection for personnel and surroundings and
minimises potential water damage, as the majority of the water mist evaporates. The Sem-Safe
Water Mist System is available for total flooding, local applications and deep fat fryers, and also as a
high pressure or low pressure system.
High and Low Pressure CO2 System
High and Low Pressure CO2 System are used as total flooding systems in engine rooms,
machinery spaces and cargo holds. The HP system consists of a number of CO2 cylinders, whose
outlets are connected to a common manifold. From there, the CO2 is directed, via selector valves,
into the various protected spaces. If the protected space is large, a high number of cylinders are
required. These can be replaced by a single CO2 tank, saving approximately 50% in weight and
installation costs. The tank contains CO2 cooled to -18°C. The tank, refrigerators, distribution
valves, controls, etc., are supplied pre-wired and ready assembled on a steel frame.
ã
CO2 High Pressure Systems
ã
Low Pressure CO2 Systems
Foam Fire Extinguishing System
High and Low Pressure CO2 System Foam used in fire protection is an aggregate of air-filled
bubbles formed from aqueous solutions, and is of lower density than the lightest flammable liquids. It
is mainly used to form a coherent floating blanket on flammable and combustible liquids to prevent or
extinguish fires by excluding air and cooling the fuel. It then prevents re-ignition by suppressing the
formation of flammable vapours, and also adheres to surfaces, providing a degree of exposure
protection from adjacent fires.
Foam can be used as a fire prevention, control or extinguishing agent for flammable liquid in tanks or
processing areas.
Dry Chemical Powder Fire Extinguishing System
Dry Chemical Powder Fire Extinguishing System When introduced directly to a fire, dry chemical
powder extinguishes flames almost immediately. Dry chemical powder is intended for use in
extinguishing fires involving bulk chemical agents and liquefied gases. Our dry systems are
developed to meet the increasing demand for large capacity systems for the protection of ships
carrying LNG/LPG and certain chemicals or agents in bulk.
Tested and approved :
DANFOSS SEMCO'S fire fighting systems are recognised by all leading classification societies and national maritime
authorities, including ABS, BV, DNV, FM, GL, KRS, LRS, NK, PRS, CCS, RMRS, RINA and others.
Danfoss Semco has experience in the design, engineering and delivery of thousands of marine fire fighting systems all over
the world, in accordance with SOLAS/IMO regulations, and approved for each ship by the relevant classification society and
national authority.
Danfoss Semco operates a QA system in accordance with EN ISO 9001:2000, and we are certified by DNV. Our on-going
internal training programs make our employees, naval architects, sales engineers, project managers, service engineers, and
all support staff fully qualified to handle all our fire fighting systems for the marine industry.

Mooring Equipment
SEC Fairtrans Mooring Equipment is a trade name of various types of mooring
equipment produced and delivered by SEC Groningen. The products belonging to
this product range are chocks, warping rollers, double bollards and fairleads.
Depending on the requirements of the customer, SEC Groningen offers a wide range
of standard mooring equipment most of which can be delivered directly from stock,
shot blasted and with one coat of shop primer.
SEC Groningen is able to provide almost all the requested types of mooring
equipment for every type of ship.
SEC Fairtrans Mooring Equipment
In order for its customers to meet the demands for safe and quick mooring, unmooring,
and line-tending operations with reduced crews, SEC Groningen delivers many sizes
of the frequently demanded and most used multi-purpose chocks from stock. This is
also the case for the warping rollers, which are delivered in a maintenance free design
as standard. For safety reasons, the design of the double bollards (according to DIN)
takes for granted the commonly used figure-of-eight belaying, which results in a load
in each tube that can be higher than the maximum breaking load of the rope.
Furthermore, SEC Groningen can deliver various types of fairleads to help prevent
damage to the mooring lines caused by extreme line angles to and from the mooring
equipment.
The standard SEC roller-fairleads will help reduce wear in comparison to the use of multi-purpose chocks. Upon request and
in mutual consultation, SEC Groningen has the ability to offer the customer additional service in designing custom-made
pieces of mooring equipment by adapting the SEC Groningen standard types of mooring equipment.
Based on predetermined mooring arrangement designs and/or the need or wish to have mooring equipment that can be used
for different mooring purposes, SEC Groningen is always willing to advise concerning a solution.
Customers can choose from the following mooring equipment :
