Letter From COO/GM Dear Member, It’s been two years since we celebrated our Club’s 25th anniversary. The Board of Directors recognizes the Club’s longevity is a direct result of the hard work, support and patronage of our fellow Members and Staff. We feel it is important and appropriate for the Club, as an entity with some financial help from its Members, to begin honoring those individuals. Initial list of Members to be honored and remembered: • Marty Hoppe • Judy Trimble • James Seaver • George Boehm • Dudley Simpson • Fenton Barnes • Tim Richards • Bob Nelson • Robert Crim • Kyle Watkins • Jim Nay • Al Merrell • Arnold Gardner • Ron Marsh • Joshua Overton • Hunter Nixon • Joni (Cookie) Siaggas • John Sealer We sincerely apologize if we might have missed a passed loved one. If you would like their name added, please contact Connie Wood at cwood@stivescountryclub.org. The Board discussed and approved this lasting remembrance to take the form of a multisided Memorial Clock on the Driving Range, (please see the photo example on the right). The clock would be designated the Hudson Garrett/Member Memorial Clock. On the base of the clock will be beautifully inscribed the names of all Members who have passed away. Each year, when necessary, the clock inscriptions will be updated to recognize additional honorees. The Board feels it is important to not only honor Hudson for his dedication to the Club but to honor all those who he served in the past, as well as our future Members. Many Members have suggested we undertake this project so they might also honor their friends and loved ones who no longer are able to enjoy their friendship and all of St Ives Country Club. The cost of the Hudson Garrett/Member Memorial Clock will run approximately $30,000. The purpose of this letter is to reach out to all Members of the Club offering each an opportunity to make a contribution to help finance the honoring of Hudson and their friends and family members. It will take some substantial contributions from a number of people to make this remembrance possible. The Club will segregate these monies from its general funds and will be happy to accept checks, credit card or Club billing charges for this purpose. In late summer or early fall, once the funds have been contributed and the work on the Memorial Clock has been completed, the Club will have an event on the Driving Range for all to attend for the formal dedication of the Hudson Garrett/Member Memorial Clock. The Club asks you to make your personal Remembrance Donation over the next four weeks so planning of the dedication event can be scheduled and finalized. Remembrance check donations can be dropped off with Tenna Meadows at the Registration Desk in the Main Clubhouse. To make your donation in the form of a Club one time charge, please email Connie Wood at cwood@stivescountryclub.org with your request. To make your donation in the form of a credit card charge please call Connie Wood at 770.623.1239, x1304 with your card information. With great respect, John Gerdt s 3 • FROM THE COO/GENERAL MANAGER • St Ives Country Club Sunday, October 4th 6:30pm Windsor Ballroom The St Ives Annual Meeting of Equity Members is scheduled for Sunday, October 4th, during which elections will be held to fill three (3) Board of Director vacancies for 2015 - 2018 and elect the President of the Board for 2015 - 2017. Summer is in full swing at St Ives, and I hope yours is going well, filled with fun vacations, beach trips, cookouts and of course, good times at your Club! Well, it is official: The new Patio and Outdoor Bar are a huge hit! I am thrilled that we have it open for service, and it is already busy and full of Members enjoying this great new space. We can’t wait to have the firepits lit up at night once the weather cools down a bit as well. I look forward to seeing everyone out there, and here’s to many great evenings ahead in that beautiful new space. Enjoy! REMINDER: MEMBER REFERRALS There is a very strong and valuable Member Referral Program in place for our Members! If you have a friend or colleague that you would like to introduce to the Club, please let me know. Just give me a call, or email me their contact information by way of introduction. I will take very good care of them for you. Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate the 4th of July. Despite the deluge of rain in the morning, the weather cleared up for us beautifully, and we had a record turnout for the event. Everyone had a great time, and I just love seeing everyone relaxing down on the Driving Range, with our beautiful Clubhouse all lit up at night. Many thanks to both the Pool and the Food & Beverage Management Teams for the outstanding job on this very busy day, thank you! Have an awesome August! “Mel” Melissa R. As in the Main Dining Room, we will not take parties larger than 14. Unlike the “old Turnberry Grille” we now require Members and guests to see the hostess to be seated if you are dining on the Patio or in the Turnberry Mixed Grille. We do our best to have it ready on time, however if we fail to time it exactly, it may be due to the high traffic level dining-in and we will bring it to you if this happens. As always, we are delighted to make your food order to-go for you. However, if you are placing a to-go order during the evening (dinner) hours, certain restrictions have been put in place in order to ensure the best possible service for Members who are dining in the restaurant. If you call us and we are not able to accommodate your to-go request, it is solely because we are not able to due to current or anticipated traffic levels, and it will depend on time of day and day of the week. It is particularly difficult to fill large to-go orders from this facility, especially without ample notice. Please call us as far in advance as possible if you have a larger order to place. SIWGA Member-Member Committee 16 • FROM TEE TO GREEN • St Ives Country Club Hit ‘Em Straight! By Mollie Boney, PGA, HFS “Get Back to Basics with Chipping” While we all continuously work on our swing, spend hours on the Range, and strive to hit 18 greens in regulation, there is one thing we should focus on a little more: chipping. Making par counts just the same whether we hit the green and two putt, or chip it close and one putt. Missing greens is going to happen, but when we do, we’ve got to have the confidence that we can get up and down. During your next practice session, spend a little more time at the short game area perfecting the basics of the chip shot. Ball Position: Back of the stance (feet close together) Club Position: The shaft should be leaning slightly forward, with your hands just ahead of the ball Weight Distribution: 60 to 70% on your front leg *These key setup positions make it much easier for us to make a proper swing. What we are really doing, is simulating where we want to be at impact. Swing: Similar to a putt, a chip shot is a very simple stroke. Keeping the arms reasonably straight, bring the club back and through on a slight arc. We are looking to brush the grass on the way down, but want to avoid taking a divot. Finish: Check that your lead arm and club shaft form a straight line, ensuring you have not flipped your wrists and closed the club head on the way through. It’s important to keep the clubface square to the target throughout the entire shot. Results Men’s Match Play Results Congratulations to Mr. Bob Royak for winning the Men’s Match Play Championship.
