Join YMCA Day Camp for one week or an entire summer of fun! We focus on caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all of our activities, from education during camper-chosen skill sessions, to arts and crafts, and team-building games. YMCA Sports Clinics are offered for children who want to develop skills and techniques, while learning the value of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play. Ages: 4th-8th Grade Times: 7:30 am-5:30 pm Y member: $200, Y program member: $240 CULINARY “CHEF” CAMP (2 WEEKS: July 11-15 and July 18-22) This is no ordinary “no bake” experience. On the contrary, our Culinary “Chef” Camp is two weeks of hands-on learning in a real kitchen practicing and exploring the art of cooking and baking, while fostering a passion for the culinary arts. We will be working closely with HyVee, area restaurants and area educational institutions to provide an experience like no other. Families are invited to a “Finale Dinner” on the last evening of camp. They can expect to enjoy the wonderful tasters from their newly created chef. Bon Appetit! All the benefits of a residence camp without an overnight stay. Each week has a different theme, but assure your campers will experience many different activities involving the great outdoors. With every camp, we intentionally provide a safe, hands-on learning experience as our campers build relationships, experience accomplishments and develop a sense of belonging. Ages: Kindergarten-6th Grade Times: 7:30 am-5:30 pm Y member: $195, Y program member: $235 FISHING/ARCHERY/TRACKING (JUNE 13-17) Everyday campers will experience activities that develop and achieve basic skills in fishing, archery and tracking animals while exploring and enjoying the great outdoors. Baiting a hook, holding a bow and utilizing animal tracks are just a few skills learned in this week. CAMP SITE (JUNE 20-24) Everyone loves to camp. Activities throughout this week include erecting a tent, building a fire, hiking in the woods, telling ghost stories, roasting marshmallows, cooking over an open fire, and enjoying the great outdoors. NATURE’S PLAYGROUND (JUNE 27-JULY 1) Venture out and explore the natural playground around us. Explore nature and its surroundings at Jester Park, Big Creek Park, Ledges State Park, the Iowa Arboretum, Saylorville, and Fort Des Moines Park. The days will also involve participating in photo hunts, scavenger hunts, hiking, creek stomping, and Frisbee golf just to name a few. SURVIVAL TRAINING (JULY 25-29) This is no ordinary experience. Campers will learn a multitude of different skills for survival. From learning how to use a compass, building a fire, looking for water and even assembling a shelter; your campers will learn, develop and master many of these abilities. All these skills will be put to a fun experience at the end of the week where campers will work in teams. Along with their camp leaders campers will act out a survival situation. OUTDOOR THRILL WEEK (AUGUST 8-12) Through exciting and thrilling adventures, campers will get the rush of adrenaline from activities such as rock climbing, rope courses, archery, and so many other thrilling outdoor experiences. Your campers will love this week! THE GREAT OUTDOORS (AUGUST 15-19) Each day your campers will experience many different activities involving the great outdoors while exploring new skills. Some activities will include hiking, fishing, canoeing, archery, and swimming. Campers will get to experiment and expand their scientific knowledge. This week will include offsite field trips to the Science Center, Reiman’s Gardens and Jester Park. Campers will experiment with astronomy, weather, chemistry, the environment and so much more. Ages: K-6th Grade Outdoor Rocky Adventures (June 20-24) This week is all about adventuring through hiking and climbing. Campers will learn safety techniques of climbing rocks from experts around Iowa. Campers will go on off-site field trips to Climb Iowa, YMCA Boone camp, Ledges State Park and more. Campers will learn the ins and outs of rock climbing and hiking in the outdoors while working together and building relationships. Ages: 2nd-6th Grade Outdoor Game Adventures (June 27-July 1) Campers will be working together and building teams throughout this week. The primary focus will be to build relationships, play games all while experiencing the great outdoors. The games and activities will lead campers on offsite fieldtrips to Climb Iowa, Bowling, and more! Campers will learn skills of working together to complete tasks, competing with other teams, and encouraging a fun and safe environment for all campers. Ages: K-6th Grade Outdoor Paddle Adventures (July 11-15) Campers will experience adventures in the great outdoors! Campers will gain skill in canoeing, kayaking, paddle boating and swimming throughout the week. Campers will learn safety in and around natural bodies of water as they discover the fun of manual water crafts. We will be going to Big Creek, Greys Lake, and more! Ages: 2nd-6th Grade (July 18-22) This week is all about animal encounters! Campers will learn from animal experts around the greater Des Moines area. Campers will get to see, hold, touch and learn about creatures that live around us. Campers will go on off-site trips to the Omaha Zoo, Blank Park Zoo, and more! Ages: K-6th Grade Arts Camp (July 25-29) Campers will be exploring the ins and outs of the artistic world. Campers will be invited to learn about the theatre, the musical arts, as well as art forms such as sculpting painting, and more. Offsite fieldtrips and meeting with experts around the area will engage campers and help them learn about all the processes of producing a masterpiece. Ages: K-6th Grade Urban Adventures (August 1-5) Every day we will visit and explore a different park while enjoying outdoor activities. Campers will experience outdoor education thru nature experts. Some of the areas we will be visiting are Raccoon River park, Jester park, and others. Ages: K-6th Grade Outdoor Aquatic Adventures (August 8-12) This aquatastic week is all about water! Campers will get the chance to swim and learn at various aquatic locations. Throughout the week, campers will play water games, and work together in team building activities. Campers will learn about marine life and go on an offsite trip to Saylorville Lake. We also will be going swimming on other field trips. These safe and fun activities will help develop a comfortable water environment for campers. Each day we will play different sports. Sports will include, but will not be limited to dodgeball, kickball, whiffleball, basketball, soccer and football. Ages: K-6th Grade DODGEBALL (June 13-17) What kid doesn’t like to play the game of dodgeball? We will be playing several variations of dodgeball with the use of rhino skin balls. These balls are designed to be safe for kids of all ages and used in PE programs in the Des Moines Area. Ages: K-6th Grade BASKETBALL CLINIC (June 20-24) This clinic is open to all players of all abilities to explore the world of basketball. Camp activities include practicing drills, learning the basics of the game and scrimmages. Campers will have the opportunity to attend the YMCA Capital City League games held at Valley Southwoods that week with a few lucky kids getting the chance to sit on the bench with a team for a game. Ages: K-6th Grade SOCCER CLINIC (June 27-July 1) This clinic is open to all levels of abilities and will help take your game to the next level. We will do drills and mini-games as well as full scrimmages. Special guests from college and local professional soccer teams will address the clinic. Ages: K-6th Grade GOLF CLINIC (July 11-15) This camp is for kids of all abilities to come and learn the game of golf. We will cover rules and etiquette of the game and also work on the golf swing and putting. This camp may include one day at the miniature golf course and driving range. Clubs are not required but are helpful so please bring what you have. Ages: K-6th Grade WACKY SPORTS CLINICS (July 18-22) This clinic will focus on nontraditional sports that your child will learn to play and have a fantastic time playing. Sports that will be included are pickleball, shuffleboard, bocce ball, dodgeball and many more. Ages: K-6th Grade FLAG FOOTBALL CLINIC (July 25-29) This is a non-contact camp for all participants. Campers will work on all aspects of the game including route running, passing as well as offense and defense. The camp will include special guest speakers from local high school and college players. Ages: K-6th Grade BIG 4 SPORTS CLINIC (August 1-5) This clinic will focus on some of the more popular sports in the United States for youth. Kids will participate in drills and scrimmages for the following sports: basketball, football, soccer and baseball. The themes guide weekly activities in both small and large group settings that present children with the opportunity to grow personally and socially, to develop skills for meeting new friends, to learn and understand the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, and of course to have fun. ALOHA SUMMER Fairly Tale Adventures Beat the heat this week with water fun! We will ride the water slide, create a lemonade stand, eat summer treats, pretend we are at the beach and so much more! Test your imagination as we go on many exciting adventures to faraway places. We will encounter many well-known characters and stories… and maybe even some new ones! All Star Sports JOURNEY TO THE JUNGLE Does your child like sports and being active? We will be doing some fundamentals in the basic sports such as basketball, soccer, and football. We also will be doing sport crafts, songs, games and story time. Animal lovers, take a journey to the wild jungle with a week full of animal adventures. Join us as we learn about many different jungle animals through fun crafts, games, stories and songs. Be an Adventurer LET THE PRESCHOOL GAMES BEGIN Want to go on a bear hunt or search for bugs? We can do both during this week of exploring the world around us. As preschool Olympians, we will work together as a team! We may compete in the Hammer Throw, Tennis, Hockey, Basketball, Javelin, Shot Put, Ring Toss, Ice Skating, Relay Races, and Obstacle Courses. No matter what, we will have fun competing for the Gold Meal! Christmas in June Ho Ho Ho! Who doesn’t like Christmas? We’ll have a merry week of decorating, crafting, and even playing in the snow in June. CRAFTY CREATIONS Your child will enjoy crafts galore at this camp! We will be working with many types of art mediums to create our wonderful summer time masterpieces! Diggin’ Dinosaurs Come join us this week as we go on a prehistoric adventure to discover dinosaurs! We will be searching for dinosaur bones, making fossils and dinosaur eggs, and scavenger hunts. Dinosaur Let’s go on an amazing journey and learn all about different dinosaurs. We will be doing dinosaur crafts, games, story time, and songs. DR. SUESS Dr Seuss makes us think of everything rhyming! We will explore Dr. Suess books, crafts, zany games and antics and much more. Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, The Foot Book, If I Ran the Zoo, My Many Colored Hats and other favorites! Join us for a great week celebrating Dr Suess! LITTLE CHEFS Your child will dress the part as the next “top chef” while measuring, mixing and tasting their delicious delights! We will encourage them to taste new foods, explore with their senses and build on basic skills that lay the foundation to healthy eating habits. Little Sports Does your child like sports and being active? We will be playing some sports such as basketball, soccer, and football. We also will be doing sport crafts, songs, games, and story time. OOEY GOOEY, SQUISHY SQUASHY! Let’s get down and dirty! We will mix up some crazy concoctions and get our hands messy with sticky and slimy activities. Pirates A-hoy and Ocean Adventures There is nothing better than a pirate life! We’ll learn about pirates and ocean creatures down deep. We will be doing under the sea and pirate crafts, games, water activities, and songs. 8 Planes, Trains, and things with Wheels Honk, beep, choo-choo! Do you like things with wheels, wings, and tracks? This week we will explore what it’s like to “ride” a train or scoop dirt like a dump truck. Prince and Princess Be a princess or prince for a week! Enjoy each day by dressing up like a princess or prince. Join the royal court for a week of fairy tale crafts, songs, story time, and games! Princess Be a princess for a week! Wear your favorite princess attire and join us for the Royal Court for a week of fairy tales, crafts, and games. We will sing, dance, play princess games and read fairy tales! RODEO ROUNDUP WANTED! Space Camp Explore the galaxy! Join us as we learn about the universe and the various planets of the Milky Way through crafts, games, storytime, and songs. SUPERHEROES Does your child want to save the night like the PJ Masks? Or rescue their friends like Spiderman or Supergirl?
