The meeting began with Bob Giles leading
the Pledge of Allegiance and Matt Grote Introducing
our guests for the day – all pictured above and left.
Sergeant-at-Arms John Williams gave the
Invocation.
White Sox tickets are still available.
All orders must be placed by August 12.
If you can't attend, purchase a few tickets for
the Veterans who love to attend the game each year
as Rotary guests. Remember, each ticket adds $10
to Polio Plus.

Rusco, Phil Barry, and Eric Van Ness
According to Game Chair PDG Irv Kaplan,
approximately 500 tickets have been sold to date.
We are expected to sell 800 – 1,000 tickets, and
sales are way behind. We really need to support this

Ed reminded everyone that we will return to
plated lunches on August 24th which is also the date
of District Governor Ron Broida’s annual club visit.
Everyone is requested to wear your PHF Bling that
day, please and thank you.
Ed noted we still need one more player for
our team to meet the Satellite Club’s Dodgeball
Challenge. “Bless Mike Sletten and his kids,” said
Ed, calling on John Bokum to share that that Satellite
needs volunteers for both the Dodgeball
Tournament [see note from Brad Keefner on page 5
of this newsletter] as well as for their part of helping
the FP Kiwanis on Peanut Day!
The Charity Dodgeball Tournament is set for
August 13 from 8AM to 6PM. Divisions will include
both underhand and overhand to accommodate both
less aggressive and more competitive teams. Venue
is the FP Park District.
Donut Day was a HUGE success. Thanks to
all who participated!! According to “our sources,” this
was a FIRST for us; with our partner, it was a SELLOUT day! Huge kudos to all!!
Harold Rohlfing would really love to hear from
his fellow Rotarians. His address is in the Directory,
but he has a new phone number [708] 557-7498.
Lou Fabbri notes that we need to fill about 50
volunteer hours for this year’s Rotary Rally AND we
need your help! Volunteers need not be Rotarians,
so ask your spouses, friends, children,
grandchildren, etc.
Volunteers will be needed at various positions:
Rotary Tent Displays – At least 1 Rotarian
per hour
Entrances – 1 at main gate to ensure that no
alcohol leaves the food/beer area. 1 at the
Thatcher Avenue gate to ensure that no
alcohol leaves the food/beer area and to
open and close the gate for food truck
access. [1 ½ hour shifts]
Trash pick-up – 1 volunteer for each 1 ½ hour
shift.
Bounce House Inflatable – 1 volunteer per
hour shift
Extreme Obstacle Course Inflatable – 2
volunteers per hour shift.
Hippo Chow Down Inflatable – 2 volunteers
per hour shift.
All volunteers should be at least 18 years old [except
trash pick-up]. Younger teenagers may be used for
other duties or to work with the adults on some of the
inflatables.
On the sign-up sheet [a copy is at the end of this
newsletter], there is another page for floaters. These
will be assigned to duties wherever they may be
necessary. Most duties are 1 or 1 ½ hour shifts, so
you can sign you for more than one shift.
A quick reminder that new Exchange student
from Poland – Karol – is arriving Thursday, August
18 at 2:45 PM. If you would like to be part of the
welcoming team, get further information from Lesley.
In closing the business portion of the
meeting, Sergeant-at-Arms John Williams lead the
group in The Four-Way Test of the things we think,
say, and do.
A few meeting photos . . .
Kristin Vogen, Ginie Cassin, Bill Planek, and
Robert Stelletello below enjoying lunchtime
conversation and camaraderie.
Bob Giles, Lou Fabbri, and Mickey Baer
above taking in the view during lunch.
Friday was Kathryn Beedle Fezzuoglio's last
day at Brookdale. She did promise, however, we
would still be seeing her!
Nancy Teclaw below with AG Ade Onayemi,
and Richie Battaglia - ask Richie about his medical
"miracle." It's quite some story! AND he gives the
credit to Rotary!!

Satellite Club writes:
From DG Ron Broida . . .
Our
Dodgeball
Tournament
is
quickly
approaching for August 13,
2016! It's shaping up to be a great event that will
feature local businesses, organizations and
community members playing for their favorite
charity. However, we are going to need your help to
make sure event stations are covered!
Our next meeting is August 10, 2016 and I
will circulate the Volunteer List. For those who might
not be able to attend, I have attached the Volunteer
List and you can email me with the station you are
volunteering for, time slot and your phone number.
We are planning to set up starting around
9am, registration starts at 10:00am. (We didn't
assign volunteer slots for these items but let me
know if you want to help out for these things as well).
This is the first year of what we hope to make
our signature annual event. In order to make sure
participants enjoy the experience this year and
return next year, we are going to need your help!
Feel free to email me with any questions as
well! bkeefner338@gmail.com
Sincerely,
Brad Keefner
