Report puts
Heathrow hub
case forward
H
eathrow Airport’s chief
executive Colin Matthews is to
launch a report today outlining why
the airport needs to become a UK
hub. Matthews is to send the ‘One
Hub or None’ report to Sir Howard
Davies, who is heading an aviation
commission that is not due to be
published until 2015. The report
is expected to say the Heathrow
to Gatwick connection, dubbed
Heathwick, is impractical and outline
Heathrow as the only suitable hub
airport. In a statement Virgin Atlantic
said the report made a “compelling
case for a single hub airport” and
was “sure” Davies would find it
useful. Meanwhile, Mayor Boris
Johnson pushed for his proposal for
an airport in the Thames Estuary or
expansion at Stansted. Click here

CWT launches
hotel review site
C
WT has launched a hotel
review website for businesses
to share their opinions on properties.
The site, named CWT Hotel Intel,
emails travellers after a trip asking
them to upload a review, which can
then be displayed on a companyspecific page. Availability, rates and
facilities will be displayed alongside
the hotels. “The development of
CWT Hotel Intel is very much
aligned with the current trends we’re
seeing in the industry – travellers
increasingly use peer group
information to make decisions,” said
Patrice Simon, innovation leader at
CWT. Click here for full story

Air France/KLM told Travel Daily.
“Kent is a key region with a good
catchment area that is close to the
airport and it is very strategically
placed; we are very confident that

Walk around the
aisles of the World
Travel Market and you
would never guess that
shopping is one of the
top two tourist activities
in every market in
Europe.
“We work hard to
weave our shopping
destinations into the
local tourism fabric, in
terms of working with the local tourism industry, and getting
the right look and feel, and offer at our centres,” says Anthony
Rippingale, McArthurGlen’s Head of Tourism.
McArthurGlen’s La Reggia Designer Outlet is 25 minutes
north of Naples, and reached by car or shuttle bus. As well
as the likes of Prada and Valentino, the centre offers many
Neapolitan brands, reflecting the importance of tailoring in a
city once known as the Paris of the Mediterranean. And for a
place to eat, world-renowned Rossopomodoro offers authentic
Neapolitan cuisine.
The architecture at La Reggia is inspired by the Byzantine
domes of the Amalfi coast, and the water fountains echo the
sound of the sea on the rocks at Naples or the beaches of
Sorrento and the island of Capri. And if you are taken by the
classically inspired bronze horse’s head at the main entrance,
a visit to the Naples National Archaeological Museum is a
must.
