Whether you are an experienced Evinrude Service Technician or brand new to the training program, please read through this entire section for important service training information. Service Training Updates There are 5 important updates for the 2014/15 Training Season: 1. Certified technicians are now required to re-certify every four (4) years. Please see page 5 for information. Technicians who last Certified between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2011 must ReCertify this training season to maintain Certification status. 2. Master Technician Program rules have changed. Please see page 6 for information. 3. Course names have changed. OB 1 – Outboard Training 1 (formerly E-ssentials™ distance learning) OB 2 – Outboard Training 2 (formerly Professional Technician Training) OB 3 – Outboard Training 3 (formerly Outboard Certification Course) 4. Government students are required to follow the same training progression as dealer technicians. However, for Outboard Training 3, the instructor will issue a certificate of completion for the class. 5. Distance learning and hands-on class enrollment may be accessed via BOSSWeb or DealerPort. Our training program provides for continuous learning through distance learning, hands-on training at our factory training centers, product updates, and re-certification. Please see the Evinrude Training Progression Timeline below for a summary of the process. 2 OB 1 - OUTBOARD TRAINING 1 Prerequisites None Registration Information BOSSWeb users: Log in to BOSSWeb and select the Training dropdown. Select Training Enrollment. Select eLearning. DealerPort users: Log in to DealerPort and select the Training link. Scroll down the page and select eLearning Registration. Type in your name, date of birth, and select Authorized Dealer as the User Type. Enter your dealer number. Important: Record this data for future use. Always enter your information exactly the same each time you log in so the system will recognize you. After entering your information, you will arrive at the eLearning main page. View the videos and complete the exams listed under the Evinrude headings. Course Profile Outboard Training 1 is comprised of four unique service training videos covering various service topics on Evinrude® E-TEC® outboards. In addition, the 2011 and 2012 Product Service Updates must be completed in order to register for Outboard Training 2. E-ssentials – Outboard System Function & Service: Course content provides an understanding of the theory of operation of two and four-stroke powerheads, fuel, oiling, ignition, cooling, gearcases, electrical and trim/tilt systems, and properly preparing an outboard (non-E-TEC) for off-season storage. E-ssentials – Effective Troubleshooting: Course content covers service interaction with customers and how to ask the right question, the right way. Learn how to approach diagnostic troubleshooting using a systematic method as well as tips and tricks for each outboard technology. E-ssentials – Rigging & Propeller Selection: Course content covers the correct procedures for rigging a new or repowered boat with an Evinrude E-TEC outboard. It’s useful for riggers and technicians at boat-builders and dealerships, along with anyone involved with helping customers select or purchase propellers. E-ssentials – Servicing Evinrude E-TEC: Course content explains the principles of operation, service procedures and diagnostics that are unique to Evinrude E-TEC outboards. While intended mainly for service technicians, the program will also be helpful for anybody who works with outboards. 2011 Evinrude E-TEC Product Service Update book – Covers important product updates for model year 2011. (P/N 5008818) Preparing for the Next Level of Training Continue employment as an Evinrude service technician. Complete any new service update videos or product updates as they are released. Register for Outboard Training 2. 3 OB 2 – OUTBOARD TRAINING 2 Prerequisites Outboard Training 1 and any required distance learning updates. Registration Information BOSSWeb users: Log in to BOSSWeb and select the Training dropdown. Select Training Enrollment. Select Hands-on Enrollment and follow the prompts. DealerPort users: Log in to DealerPort and select the Training link. Select the Enrollment link and follow the prompts. Course Profile Outboard Training 2 will accelerate the technician’s technical knowledge of Evinrude products and prepare for the rigorous Outboard Training 3 course. Knowledge and experience required before attending this course: Using / reading precision instruments and gauges Using service manuals and literature Using diagnostic software Troubleshooting and repairing inline and V-model engines Advanced level computer skills Knowledge and skills obtained in this course: Fuel System Electrical system Oil system Evinrude Diagnostics Introduction to ICON gauges and remote controls; I-Command gauges Gearcases Troubleshooting skills Multi-Fuel Engine (MFE) and submersible engine technology Course content includes 40% discussion and 60% hands-on practice. Class participation and a final exam score of 80% or better are required to pass the course. Bypass Exam (located in the eLearning site) We recognize that some technicians with prior automotive and/or marine experience may already have the skills developed in this course. Therefore, we offer the possibility to test out of this course. The online test includes, but is not limited to, questions on electrical theory and systems, fuel systems, Evinrude Diagnostics and multi-meters. You will have one attempt to pass the exam. If you fail the exam, you will be required to attend OB 2. There are no exceptions. Class Hours Monday - Thursday: 8AM to 4PM (Homework required) and Friday 8AM to Noon Preparing for the Next Level of Training 4 Continue employment as an Evinrude service technician. Complete any new service update videos or product updates as they are released. We strongly recommend one year before registering for Outboard Training 3. OB 3 – OUTBOARD TRAINING 3 Prerequisites Outboard Training 1, Outboard Training 2 (or successful completion of the OB 2 Bypass Exam), and any required product updates. Registration Information BOSSWeb users: Log in to BOSSWeb and select the Training dropdown. Select Training Enrollment. Select Hands-on Enrollment and follow the prompts. Course Profile Outboard Training 3 is our most advanced level course on the Evinrude product line and is comprised of 100% hands-on work. This is an intense hands-on training program based on running and static work stations. Course content covers all aspects of service, repair, and diagnostics for the entire Evinrude product line. Dealers: Complete all defined tasks to earn Evinrude Certification status. Government Personnel: Complete all defined tasks to earn an Outboard Training 3 certificate. Advanced knowledge and experience required before attending this course: Technicians must have advanced level skills obtained through factory training, time, and on the job experience before taking this course. Technicians will need all knowledge and experience required for OB 2 as well as: Fluency with Evinrude Diagnostics Experience navigating DealerPort, GovernmentPort, or BOSSWeb Experience reading and interpreting wiring diagrams Advanced troubleshooting and electrical diagnostic skills BRP does not recommend Outboard Training 3 if: You completed Outboard Training 2 within the last 12 months You had difficulty passing the OB 2 Bypass Exam You have less than 5 years experience servicing outboard engines Class Hours Monday - Thursday: 8AM to 4PM (Homework required) and Friday 8AM to Noon Preparing for the Next Level of Training Complete any new service update videos, product updates, seminars, etc. by the posted due date. Return to Outboard Training 3 every four (4) years (by conclusion of product year). Prepare for Master Technician exam (authorized Evinrude dealers) 5 EVINRUDE® MASTER TECHNICIAN PROGRAM Program Updates The Evinrude Master Technician program rules have changed for program year 2014-15. Please review the following for important updates. Requirements Technician must be employed at an authorized Evinrude dealership. Complete Outboard Training 3 (OB 3) hands-on training. After receiving your diploma, you will have the opportunity to take the Evinrude Master Technician written exam at the Training Center. Exam Content The exam is comprised of 50 questions covering service topics on any outboard engines or major parts and accessories sold or marketed by BRP. You must score at least 90% to earn Master Technician status. Master Technician Status Master Technician status is valid for 4 years after passing the written exam. BRP Recognition 6 The Training Center will issue recognition awards to our Master Technicians once per year in July. Master Technician status will be visible on the learning management site to your dealership and BRP employees. COURSE INFORMATION AND POLICIES Course Fees Outboard Training 1: no charge for online training. Outboard Training 2 or Outboard Training 3: $385 per person, per course Fees are non refundable. The fee will appear on your Parts & Accessories Account. Government agencies may pay by credit card after your account is invoiced. Call 1-800-9013228 (Option #1, then Option #3) to speak with the Credit department. All prices are subject to change without prior notice. Registration Information Please see the Registration Information section for each course for instructions on how to register online for distance learning or hands-on classes (preferred method). OR Complete a technical training registration form located on the last page of this brochure and fax to (262) 884-5504. We must have a minimum of 3 students registered to hold a class. We recommend you do not make travel arrangements until you receive a class confirmation letter or email. BRP reserves the right to cancel any class. Cancelling or Rescheduling a Class Please cancel or reschedule at least thirteen (13) days before your scheduled class date to avoid being charged for the class. There are two methods to cancel your enrollment. Log in to BOSSWeb or DealerPort and proceed to the Enrollment page. Select the exact same class and class date you originally chose when registering for the class. The system will present you with an option to Delete your enrollment. Select the red “D” to cancel enrollment. If you would like to register for another class date, simply start at the Enrollment screen again and enroll for a new class date. OR Fax your cancellation or reschedule request on company letterhead to 262-884-5504. Policies All BRP US Inc. facilities are tobacco free. Smoking and tobacco chewing must be conducted off company property. Wear clothing and closed toe shoes appropriate for a service shop environment. Shorts are not permitted. Our training centers are located in corporate facilities. Out of respect, please refrain from wearing competitor's branded clothing. Classes begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. Completion of all required tasks and full attendance is required to earn a certificate. Students are evaluated through hands-on projects and homework assignments. BRP reserves the right to dismiss a student for misconduct. This includes, but is not limited to, disruptive behavior or damaging equipment. Travel BRP is not responsible for students' cost of travel, lodging or meals while they are attending a training course. Students who travel by air usually rent a car. Public transportation is limited. When planning travel, see course descriptions for class start and end times. The facility has 2 classrooms dedicated for lecture presentations and 2 lab work areas dedicated for hands on training and testing. The 2 lab areas have 17 fully equipped benches. Six sound proof test cells are available. These test cells provide students the opportunity to diagnose and experience “real life” running situations in a controlled environment. The Morrow Training Center is located approximately 20 miles south of downtown Atlanta. It is 1 mile from Interstate 75 and is 15 minutes from Hartsfield International Airport.
