JANUARY
2009
DUPAGE SHRINE CLUB
President’s Message
Greetings, Nobles:
Both attendance and reservations (more on reservations below) were down for our December meeting. I understand that winter
weather often makes travel difficult and the Holiday Season consumes a great deal of our time but, Nobles, the Club is only as
strong as the number of members who participate its meetings and activities. I encourage each and every one of you to support
the Club’s 2009 President in all his endeavors.
Remember, too, to wear your Fez and other items of red (e.g., tie socks, etc.) for the annual meeting. The Hump Bender will be on
the prowl!
Diane Anderson richly deserves the Club’s thanks for the many delicious desserts, which have graced our dinners over the last
several years. In addition to coordinating desserts for each meeting, Diane has selflessly prepared many of the desserts herself.
At the January meeting, please take a moment to thank Diane for her efforts.
At our January meeting we will conduct our normal business activities and then adjourn to the Annual Meeting, at which we’ll elect
the Officers and Directors for 2009. The recommended slate of candidates, prepared by the immediate Past President, John Day,
was published in a previous issue of the Hot Sands. As specified in the By-Law of the Club, additional nominations from the floor
will be entertained. Nobles, please plan to attend this meeting and have your say in the future of YOUR Club!
At the conclusion of the evening’s business, we will conduct annual initiation of the last year’s new members. This is always a lot
of fun and highlight of the Annual Meeting.
There was a small hitch with the Club’s gift of funds to the Chicago Hospital to purchase a Swedish Helparm for the physiotherapy
department. It seems the person who recommended the device to Bill Anderson failed to note that the Swedish Helparm had not
been approved as a capital expenditure item either by the Hospital’s Board of Governors or by the Club’s Board of Directors. As a
Consequence, approval of a revised gift may be tabled for several meetings. This will be discussed at the January business meeting. ( Continued on Page 3)

President’s Message—Continued
The January meeting will be held on Monday January 5, 2009 at the Shrine Center. As always, dinner is at 6:30pm and the meeting will begin at
7:30pm. Once again, the business meeting will be followed by the Annual Meeting and initiation of new members. Also, if you’re able to contribute
to our desserts of the evening, please contact Dianne Anderson at 630.545.0994.
Please give me a call or send me an e-mail each month (not later than Monday, December 29th, 2008), if you (or you and your lady), intend to join us
for dinner. This will allow an accurate count to be passed along to Medinah Catering and ensure that there is plenty of food for all to enjoy.
