Animation The feature-rich rigid body animation capabilities … Automated Movement Selected solids-based entities can be assigned a motion speed along or around an axis for a specified amount of time to help users visualize or communicate the action of their design. Setting up animation of the moving parts of this worm gearbox takes just a few minutes Camera Control Animation temporarily draws the movement in the KeyCreator viewport while the user maintains full access to standard zoom, pan, and rotate controls so the motion can be viewed from any angle. Timeline Control Motion can be replayed, paused, and manually stepped forward or backward in time to allow careful study and clear understanding. Alpha-style Stirling engine model animation shows operation of pistons 90 degrees out of phase 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 3 Constraint Solving The interaction of connected bodies in a mechanism can be modeled with hinge, slider, ball and socket, and fixed constraints. The system of multiple potentially inter-dependant constraints is rapidly solved by an iterative physics engine. This V2 engine animation of 7 separate bodies requires iterative solving of 9 constraints. Collision Detection Options allow animation to halt if a collision is detected, or highlighting the bodies involved. This is an enormous aid in checking for problems in the complex 3D motion of a design through its range of motion. Checking collisions on a suspension with a horizontal mounted shock absorber. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 4 Kinetic Energy Collisions between bodies, respecting assigned constraints, appropriately exchange kinetic energy and approximate the real world result of such impact/contact. In this animation red knock-out pins contacting the white parts eject them from the cavity. Environmental Control The effects of gravity and dampening coefficients can be applied to the system of bodies to further simulate the operating conditions of the design being studied. Interactive Mode For less structured testing of mechanisms users can dynamically move a selected body along/ around a single axis to see how the rest of the system will react. Pulling the green pin along its axis forces the connected parts to move according to the constraint system. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 5 Management The Animation tab provides a tree-style constraints list with re-naming, parameter adjustment, custom folder capabilities, and options to temporarily disable constraints for testing. A second tree for bodies involved in the animation allows for re-naming, merging, folder organization, and quick disabling of movement and collision calculation for optimization and testing. The 50 solids that make up the B Side of this mold have been merged into a single Animation Body to simplify constraints and management of the animation. Direct Dimension Edit Tree Saved Commands The new DDE (Direct Dimension Edit) tab on the Part Splitter lists saved Dimension-driven Edit commands and pairs highlighting of each command with its dimension and set of related faces. This saves time and errors when the same Dimension-driven Edit operations are re-executed later. Executing listed Dimension-driven Edit commands supports quick changes to several saved dimensions. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 6 Dimension Checker Saving dimensions to the DDE tab also provides a mechanism for quickly checking if the measured values of key dimensions have changed. Red highlighting shows that model edits have caused a monitored dimension to not match its target value. Model Configuration The DDE tab can be used to make automated design adjustments by moving faces connected to saved Dimension-driven Edit commands. After entering a single new value for the saved Dimension-driven Edit command ‘Length’ the model on the top has automatically changed to the one on the bottom. Users with basic programming experience can use the DDE tab variables, formulas, and conditional logic capabilities as a limited model configuration tool. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 7 Management Dimension-driven Edit commands, variables, pause entries, and folders can be easily re-named, re-ordered, and selectively disabled to save time organizing and working with the data. Executing this carefully planned DDE Tree updates the associated model using each Dimension-driven Edit command in sequence. Wire EDM Module KeyCreator Machinist has been expanded with a new optional module for programming Wire EDM machines. 2-axis Toolpaths -Generate 2-axis Wire EDM toolpaths within KeyCreator from open or closed planar profiles selected from wireframe or solid geometry. Wire EDM toolpaths are managed as composite entities within the KeyCreator part file. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 8 Toolpath Options Tapered Wall Using the constant taper option is an effective strategy for cutting punch or die cavities in a plate. This potentially difficult tapered pocket is easy to cut smoothly with 2-axis Wire EDM Cutter Compensation Diameter compensation options support inclusion of cutter compensation in the path or allow it to be handled at the controller. Lead-In and Lead-Out Lead-in and lead-out options provide smooth starts and finish to profile to avoid pips. Cornering Control Sharp, round, and loop options provide methods to ensure sharp corners when specified. The Wire EDM 2D dialog provides numerous options to control toolpath creation. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 9 Rough and Skim Cuts Toolpath definition supports multiple passes for improved part finish The third stage of the Wire EDM toolpath wizard provides definition for multiple passes. Rotary Indexing Adjusting machining view provides support for “Turn, then burn” on Wire EDM machines with a rotary axis. Sample Posts and Customization Capabilities Like other Machinist modules Wire EDM provides post customization capabilities and several sample posts for common machines. Wire EDM also provides an interface for inputting custom auxiliary parameters available for inclusion in custom posts. An external ASCII text file allows customization of up to 10 parameter names 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 10 Interoperability The 2014 V12.5 release includes several interoperability updates. Inventor 2014 - Autodesk Inventor Import has been enhanced to support version 2014 files. Parasolid R26 - Siemens PLM Parasolid Import and Export has been enhanced to support version R26 files. Modeling Several minor improvements in modeling capabilities aid users in getting special tasks done more efficiently. Blend Editing - Dynamic Face recognizes if the selected face(s) are a fillet/round and allows quick editing of the radius by pulling/pushing the DynaHandle or typing a value into the ToolTip. Dynamic Face blend editing supports cursor pulling of faces to increase fillet size by eye, or typing a value. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 11 Curve Imprint to Selected Faces -The Modify>Topology>Imprint function has been expanded with a time saving new Project Curve onto Faces option which allows imprinting to stop and not continue creating extraneous imprints through all faces of a solid which intersect the projection vector. The new faces option also supports imprinting on faces of separate bodies which intersect the specified projection vector. Imprinting the blue curves onto just the top face of this solid saves significant model cleanup time. Selective Merging of Redundant Faces - Redundant faces are a region within another face which can be the result of translation or modeling anomalies. Because they can lead to modeling problems, it is recommended to clean redundant faces off solids. However, some faces classified as redundant are intentionally created (with Imprint Curves for example) and need to be preserved. To support this need the Merge Redundant Faces option in the Tools>Maintenance>Clean Body function has been enhanced with a “Select faces to Exclude from Merging” option. Selective merge allows clean up and preservation of face coloring for seal-off, clearance, and part. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 12 Smarter Patterns -Create>Solid Feature>Patterns functions now respect and maintain entity type or feature information (if any) in all copies made. This provides support of verification and editing of the copies equivalent to what was possible with the original. Pattern creation functions are now also able to optionally repair self intersections between bump selected features. The five countersunk screws in this wear plate created as a linear pattern are equal to the initial fastener. Options for Chain Selection of Curves - The Curve option in the Chain menu of the Universal Selection Menu has been enhanced with several new option toggles. Four new option buttons have been added to the Chain menu of the Universal Selection Menu. The new Repeat mode allows selection to continue in the Chain menu after a ‘quick’ selection is made. This saves clicks for users that commonly select multiple profile chains in a single function. The other three of the four new buttons show the status of and provide temporary override control of established options accessible in other places. The Direct option matches the Tools>Options>Select page option ‘Enable Manual Chain Direction Selection’. Turning this option on will prompt the user to select one of two opposing vectors to define the chaining direction instead of assuming a start position the end of the first curve closest to the cursor. The Quick option matches the Edit>System Settings>Quick Chain toggle function and the equivalent Tools>Options setting. The CPln Q option similarly matches the Edit>System Settings>Restrict Chain and Tools>Options ‘Restrict Chain Select to C-Plane’. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 13 Expanded Pipe and Tube Databases -An updated version of the pipe database includes hundreds of additional inch-based and metric sizes from the American standards. The Type and Designation column text has been adjusted significantly to better match other Structural shapes and provide good support for proper size designations to appear in ToolTips (requires Mechanical Element Object option). The first selection is now the size range and the second is nominal size and wall schedule. Also a new version of the rectangular tube database provides hundreds of additional sizes from the American standards. Detailing KeyCreator 2014 V12.5 provides several user-requested detailing improvements. Split Balloon Increment - The Detail>Notes>Balloon function has the added flexibility of a new increment option for the text in the lower half of a split circular balloon. This option works the same as the increment option for the text in the upper half has always worked. The lower text in this series of balloons is incrementing automatically with each balloon placed. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 14 Layout Revision Prevents Underline -Layouts created by the Layout>Layout Revision function now ignore the non-associated settings in Tools>Options>Dimensions and never change the color of or underline the text of dimensions as a warning of potential problems. Such a warning is unnecessary in this case because dimensions in a layout revision have been automatically intentionally made non-associated so that they will never update with changes to the model. Visualization Being able to immediately and clearly see details in graphical design information from various views and configurations is one of the major overall benefits of CAD and 3D modeling. Kubotek continues to strengthen KeyCreator in this important area by handing the minutiae, which add up to serious productivity advantages. More Information in Entity ToolTips - Entity ToolTips appear next to the cursor during fly-over highlighting in the Tools>Verify>Entity function and Pre-selection mode. These ToolTips now provide several additional pieces of information. Level Number - All entities and entity components (faces, edges, flowlines, etc.) now report their level number in the ToolTip. The ToolTip reports the number of the lowest sub-level the entity is on. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 15 Fastener and Structural Shape Length -Length information is now appended to the end of ToolTips on Screws and Bolts created as Fastener Objects and all Structural Shape objects. ToolTips on these standards-based parts now provide the full designation used for ordering. Mechanical Element Parameters - The ToolTips of Sprocket, Chain, Gear, Rack, Spring, and Bearing Mechanical Element Objects provide all key dimensions and style information. The ToolTips provides basic parameter values or ordering information for this Spur Gear. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 16 Dimension-driven Edge Highlighting -The Dimension-driven Edit function has been enhanced to display dimension attachment more clearly. Edges to which the dimension is attached are highlighted and a marker is drawn at the attachment position on each. Orange highlighted edges and triangle center markers show how this dimension is attached to the model. Clear Temporary Facet Colors - Several functions in KeyCreator such as Draft Angle Analysis and Color Faces by Deviation temporarily color the display facets of selected bodies. The new Edit>Entities>Reset Rendering function resets bodies to their actual body or face colors. Set Physical Material Properties More Easily -When numerous solids of different materials are in a single KeyCreator part setting the majority of them from a default material can be a big time saver. The material currently assigned to the active part in File>Properties>Material Physical Properties is now listed in the Edit function dialog under the Set From Part’s Properties to help the user see which material that option will use. This solid will use the material assigned in Properties, which is currently A97178. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 17 Review Toolpath Information -Five Machinist functions for managing NC toolpath entities are now available to all KeyCreator users to support review of process strategies. Any KeyCreator user can now review the Job Process Sheet Table and other NC information in a CKD file. Setup Added settings options allow users to configure function output to match their styles and preferences. Print Option for Detail Callout Borders - The option to not print the borders of layout drawing instances has been separated into two options for added control. Detail Callout instances now have their own Tools>Options switch so that their borders print by default, but standard view instance borders do not print by default. Share Usage Information with Kubotek - A new option allows users on PCs with an Internet connection a simple, automated way to send anonymous reports to Kubotek about which functions they used in each KeyCreator session. This information will be used to help Kubotek make improvements to future versions of the program. Product Code Optional in License Wizard - The License Wizard 2014 program used to set up Activation Licensing can determine the necessary product code from a correctly entered Activation Code. This eliminates a minor source of errors that could prevent successful license activation. 3D Direct Modeling Software MASTER YOUR GEOMETRY 18 Flat Pipe Bonus CDE Flat Patterns from Cylindrical and Conical Faces A new add-in program accurately develops flat patterns from cylindrical and conical faces, as well as skewed-cone type spline faces. This function supports additional elements for secondary profiles and user specified split location. Circular and linear entities in the profile are appropriately simplified to arcs and lines for ease of use in manufacturing. The flat profile on the right was automatically calculated from the highlighted face on the left.
