Ronn Moss - Michael Fairman On-Air On
THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL M -_.I. In the eternal battle between Brooke and Taylor for Ridge's heart, for the record, Ronn Moss believes there's no competition... Iter over two dec ades of his character bouncing between two women, The Bold And The Beautiful's Ronn Moss says it's about time Ridge was allowed to be happy - at least for a while. He's hoping that with the way current storylines are travelling that might finally happen, but will it be with the blonde or the brunette? Has it been frustrating for you how Ridge's love life alternates between Taylor (Hunter Tylo) and Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang)? "In the last few years I've always said, 'I've got to move on to something else other than Brooke and Taylor. You're not letting Ridge and Brooke have a go at it here. You never have for 20 years'. They just teased the fans to the point where I don't think they really cared if Brooke and Ridge got back together, because the tease was over. Now I find when we're back together, and the characters are actually married again, that I'm actually enjoying it." A Do you think the show will now let Ridge and Brooke stay married for a while? "It has always been Brooke for Ridge, for the last long while. With Taylor, I think Ridge just takes the time to consult with Taylor to let her know, 'We had these kids together, and I will always be in your life no matter what. .. but I am going with Brooke'. It's a destiny thing." 8 After the Rick-Taylor romance, it looked like Ridge might end up back with her, but that didn't happen. Did you know you were going to end up with Brooke at this point? "I didn't know, but I was hop ing I wouldn't ping-pong back and forth between Brooke and Taylor again. Fortunately, we're still going, and what we thought would happen did not. As actors we thought, 'Well, that's it for Kelly and me. It's on to Hunter'. Then that didn't happen and it got siphoned back to us, and I went, 'Wow, that was unexpected, even for us!'" What technique do use when preparing for scenes? "Mine is 'flailing' from day to day, that's how best I would describe it!" John McCook (Eric) said in a recent TV SOAP interview that you're the true Icon of 8&8 and your acting has got better and better. What would you say to that? "I would say, the payrnents I have been giving him all these years are working!" What's it like working with John, after aJl these years? "I love working with John. He's a hoot, and we always show, when in fact John has very much his own strengths. But yes, the guys are at times made to be a buffoon. Well, some body's got to do it, right?" Do you see Ridge as a hero? "Yes. I don't know if that actually plays out on air, but in my demented mind It does! I'd like Ridge to be the hero, but it doesn't always pan out that way. I've had my ass kicked too many times on the show one way or another, and I have to bite the bullet and go, 'Well, it is what it is'. What's it like working with the reinvention of Rick (Kyle Lowder) as a 'bad boy'? "Kyle is wonderful. He's a great combination of strength and whiny little tot! A whiny little snot nosed, Brooke's son!" But Ridge has been a bit snot-nosed in the past! "So I recognise it in others. Rick needs somebody to wipe his nose." How is Hunter doing a year after her son Mickey's death? "I'm not as close as I once was to her. I think with the time it takes to do this show, our lives are just going in dif ferent directions. But I hope she's dealing with it in her own way ... I can't say." laugh when we're together. It's hard for us to keep a straight face." We also discussed how at times on 8&8 the women seem stronger than the men. What's your feeling on that? "I think John has always had an issue with that, because they always made Eric the wishy-washy guy. Stephanie (Susan Flannery) seems to be the big matriarch of the Katherine Kelly Lang and you have worked together so long. Is it difficult doing the same sort of scenes over and over again? "It's not that simplistic. We both love working with each other. I can speak for her on that, too. We're comfortable working with each other, so it makes things a lot easier that way. However, the one thing we TV SOAP Interview both share is how hard it is to keep doing this and have our lives outside (of 8&8). Even though it's a half-hour show, we still carry the brunt of it, and Kelly has her own family and I have my own family." How are your daughters? "My little Callie just turned 10. Fatherhood is lovely, and one of the best parts of my life. I think it keeps me on my toes. I constantly have to rethink, 'Am I doing this right?' I have to con cern myself with my girls' devel opment, and how they perceive the world, and how they're think ing. I have to be subtle enough to encourage them in the right direction, because I very much take my job as a dad seriously. I take it so seriously that I joke about it with them as much as I can, just so they don't know I am taking it so seriously! It's the number-one job for me, more than anything else. I consider every action or raised eyebrow I do important, because it may affect how they perceive it." Ridge's ideas about family are more questionable; what did you think when you read he would pull the plug on his comatose father? "That was pretty amazing, actually. Having Ridge feeling that his dad talked to him, I can totally understand how that could affect somebody. Then, after being told, 'No, you're hallucinating'. We've all had a situation where our reality gets blurred." What do you think we can expect from Ridge Forrester in 2009? "I think Ridge is going to take more control than he has in a while. That would be over the company and his relationship. He seems more decisive now, and I'm very much enjoying that." What would you like to tell all of your fans Down Under'? "Give my love to my Australian fans. I'm hoping we can work something else out in the future for me to see you and, at the very least, provide some new music they can find on my website, www.ronnmoss.com. I want to tell them to please keep in touch. - MICHAEL FAIRMAN IN HOllYWOOD
