Performance Schedule 2016
2016 2016 Performance Performance Schedule Schedule Matuto Delaware State Delaware State ParksParks Dear Concert Guest, 2016 is a special year for Delaware State Parks as it marks the celebration of our 65th anniversary. A lot has changed since 1951 when gas averaged 19 cents per gallon; eggs cost 24 cents per dozen and the TV show I Love Lucy premiered. One thing that hasn’t changed is the idea of why we have state parks and why we need them. State parks are the special places we visit to relax and recreate by hiking on trails, camping, fishing or listening to a concert. State parks are places we visit to learn about our history. At Fort Delaware (one of our first state parks), you’re carried back in time through first person living history programs, or you can climb a WWII fire control tower to stand watch over Fort Miles at Cape Henlopen. We all know Delaware is a small state, but good things can certainly come in small packages. Last fall, Delaware State Parks was selected as the Gold Medal winner for state parks systems for 2015 and 2016 through the National Recreation and Parks Association. This is an honor that no small state park system has ever received. We believe that Delaware was selected for a variety of reasons: • The top notch programming like the concert you are attending this evening • The outstanding community support our state park system receives through volunteer and corporate sponsorship • The diversity of our parks. From ocean beaches, urban oases, historic treasures like Bellevue Hall, and wide open spaces like White Clay Creek State Park Thank you for your support of Delaware State Parks and I hope you enjoy the show! Dogfish Head Craft Brewery partners with Delaware State Parks Dogfish Head is the first American craft brewery to focus on culinaryinspired beer recipes outside traditional beer styles, and it has done so since the day it opened with the motto: “off-centered ales for offcentered people.” Since 1995, Dogfish has redefined craft beer and the way people think about beer by brewing with unique ingredients. Today, Dogfish is among the fastest-growing breweries in the country and has won numerous awards throughout the years, including Wine Enthusiast’s 2015 Brewery of the Year. Dogfish Head has grown into a 200+ person company with a restaurant/brewery/distillery in Rehoboth Beach, a beer-themed inn on the harbor in Lewes, and a production brewery/distillery in Milton, Delaware. Dogfish Head currently sells beer in 31 states. Beer & Benevolence is the philanthropic branch of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery that endeavors to creatively collaborate with non-profit organizations to foster community, nourish artistic advancement, and cultivate environmental stewardship. Dogfish is proud to partner with our state parks and promote music and nature throughout the state of Delaware. Cheers, Mark Carter Beer & Benevolence Consider a donation to our endowment with the Delaware Community Foundation. To learn more, search “Delaware State Parks Summer Concert Series” at delcf.org. The initial donation from the Beer and Benevolence branch of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery established the endowment for the sole purpose of supporting the concert series. Y U can support our Summer Concert Series Thanks to the Friends of Holts Landing State Park for supporting concerts at Holts Landing State Park. Find the Friends on Facebook – facebook.com/friendsofholts Fort Delaware State Park offers free admission to support the Every Kid in a Park Initiative 1 A s we celebrate our 65th Anniversary, we want the kids to enjoy a day at the park – for free! For the entire summer, children who are currently in elementary school can present a pass (available for download from our website) to enjoy a free visit to Fort Delaware when accompanied by a paying adult. Kids will enjoy a day of living history at Fort Delaware, the Civil War fortress that once housed Confederate prisoners of war. Located on Pea Patch Island in the Delaware River, visitors take a ½-mile ferry ride from Delaware City to the island, where a jitney provides transport from the island dock to the granite and brick fortress. Here, costumed interpreters immerse you in life at the Fort in the summer of 1864. Every Kid in a Park is a National Park Service initiative to help children and their families to experience our country’s natural treasures, rich history, and vibrant culture free of charge.
