In the early days, the river was a primary source for the transportation of goods. The infamous river drives occurred on the Shuswap River from the late 1800s to 1967. Logs were run down the river from Sugar Lake to the sawmill and pole yards in Enderby. Salmon Run - Jackie Pearse The centre also hosts an egg take each Thanksgiving weekend to cull salmon eggs and milt for next year’s fry, an annual fundraising barbecue, a summer solstice fry release, and other periodic special events such as a learn-to-fish day. www.kingfishercentre.com Free Event Learn to Fish Day Sunday, July 29 Young and not so young, learn from the experts,10am to 4pm “Outdoor discovery that fosters a sense of stewardship towards our environment” 12 2550 Mabel Lake Road, Enderby Free Event Annual Egg Take October 6 & 7 10am to 4pm Hands-on lesson in maintaining chinook salmon stock. You can take a tour of the hatchery with a volunteer to learn how things work and go inside a traditional First Nations’ dwelling called a kekuli.
