Customer Viewpoint: The Most Complete
Image Solutions Provider In The Industry
By acquiring Lucidiom, Noritsu can now provide retailers with
the most complete lineup of proven photo imaging solutions
and services for the retail industry. The most significant change
customers will notice is more products, more service and more
support. Phil Canter, owner, Photo Express Digital Lab of San
Antonio, believes having one source for his kiosk and printing
equipment will be a big help.
the imaging retail channel. “In this day and age,” began Grosz,
“it’s good to see somebody still working and doing things for
imaging retailers. It’s good because both companies will stay
active and be viable and that’s important to us. We plan to use
both companies’ products as long as we can.”
“Noritsu saw Lucidiom had a good product, and I saw Lucidiom
had a good product, and we both took advantage of it,” Canter
explained.
Steve Weiss of Creve Coeur Camera
has combined Lucidiom APM photo
kiosks with Noritsu’s D701 digital
inkjet printer, and plans to roll out
the combination at all 8 of his locations.
He is looking forward to more synergy
between the companies’s future products.
Mike Woodland of Dan’s Camera also feels the Noritsu purchase
was a smart one as both companies are already a big part of the
Allentown area retailer’s business mix.
“I think overall it’s very good to get as many components of a
solution under one company’s control so there’s more unification,
more consistency and a more cohesive approach,” states
Woodland. “There will now be improved efficiencies for what
we’re already invested in.”
Woodland believes there are exciting opportunities ahead as
both companies continue to improve the quality of product their
customers are receiving. He is also looking forward to the creative
vision of the Noritsu/Lucidiom team to add flexibility to retailers’
product offerings, be it web or kiosk.
Dan’s Cameras’ photo books are printed on various types of
papers, not just standard stock, and he
explained how that approach will ultimately
help profits, “We want to continue to take
images the customers give us and provide
them with more options for output that provide
a good margin for us.” Woodland knows the
Noritsu/Lucidiom combination will provide
exactly that.
“Synergy between the two
companies makes it much
easier for us, given the
responsiveness of Lucidiom
and knowing the guys
from Noritsu. This is
just wonderful.”
— Steve Weiss, owner,
Creve Coeur Camera, St. Louis, MO
Finally, at Horn Photo in Fresno, California,
owner Stan Grosz, who utilizes Noritsu QSS3212 and QSS-3411 mini-labs, and several
Lucidiom units, says, “Any time two major
suppliers join forces it’s usually a good thing for
somebody like us. We’ve been loyal Noritsu
customers for a long, long time, and we have
also loved the Lucidiom kiosks.”
Grosz added that the two companies’ strengths
complement each other well and combined
they now address a wide range of imaging
products and services that speak directly to

The D502 Duplex Inkjet Printer
Addressing Today’s Print Market
Speaking directly to the needs of today’s imaging retailer looking
for diverse and flexible printing solutions that address a rapidly
changing market, Noritsu introduced the D502 Duplex Printer.
At approximately 3.6 square feet, the D502 packs an entire photo
printing solution into this small footprint. This unit can produce
double-sided, high-quality products such as photo books,
calendars, posters, signs, scrapbooks and cards. The
D502 is aimed not only at those currently in the picture
business but also at retailers outside the imaging realm.
The D502 is a duplex printing platform that quickly
delivers a wide range of premium-quality photo
products and is limited only by the creativity and
imagination of the customer.
The D502 leverages Piezo printing technology, and uses
proprietary dye ink and gradation control over a range of 6 gradations to produce exceptional quality prints. The printer can print at 720dpi.
Printing speed is truly professional at 510 4”x6” photos an hour and the unit can
produce up to 190 duplex pages an hour — the exact kind of production needed in today’s
evolving retail print market. This unique printer has the feature set that today’s retailers need to better
meet consumer expectations and create new demands within the growing lifestyle photo product market.
Due to its ability to also produce single-sided standard prints, the D502 can be deployed as a primary printer,
or can serve as an excellent supplement to an existing minilab operation adding duplex photo printing services.

Nortisu D1005
DUPLEX INKJET PRINTER
A new, high efficiency, small footprint minilab
for your photo imaging business
The new Noritsu D1005 represents the next revolution in dry
inkjet minilabs, allowing savvy retailers to satisfy current and future
consumer demand — and extend revenue opportunities — in
social expression printing by providing a vast array of single and
double-sided photo-quality printing options for gifting and specialty
products.
Innovatively engineered and extremely compact with a footprint of
7.4 sq. ft., the D1005, with its 12”, multi-roll printing capability,
can deliver the most versatility in end product delivery, including
the creation of poster and panoramic prints up to 12”x36” as well
as 12”x12” duplex photo books and scrapbooks, greeting cards,
calendars, signs, and banners.
Truly what the D1005 brings to the marketplace is a unique
combination of performance (950 4” x 6” prints per hour and
3,800 prints without changing paper) and versatility with the
high capacity of a conventional minilab that has the flexibility of
duplex printing. Dual, two-lane magazines enable flexible paper
configuration with a new maximum paper width of 12” and the
ability to load up to four paper rolls. The system supports automatic
order sorting and is the first dry minilab to use LED lights on the
12-order print sorter to signify interrupted orders.
But ultimately for the consumer, it is about color. With the D1005,
the high quality sharp, vibrant prints with unequaled vivid color
accuracy and accurate image reproduction is the result of Noritsu’s
industry-advancing 7th generation dry inkjet technology and built-in
AccuSmart image optimization and correction function. Again
Noritsu leads the category with its ground-breaking, 4 color dye ink
system that uses 6 gradations per dot and a specially formulated,
fade-resistant ink designed to withstand ozone
and light. Print resolution from the D1005 is
a full 720x720 dpi.
A retailer looking for excellent value with a low
total cost of ownership can’t go wrong with the
D1005, a true multi-role output device. Noritsu
specifically designed this product with
the issues of efficiency and cost
effectiveness in mind so as to
maximize the retailer’s
revenue and margins.
First and foremost,
it offers the
ability to
differentiate
product
offerings with
onsite printing,
delivering faster than
outlab providers and
monetizing the premiums
associated with instant service.
Furthermore for retailers contemplating
the importance of impact on the
environment, Noritsu has you covered as the
D1005 uses less power than traditional systems
and less ink cartridges compared to other competing printers.
Still not convinced that this will reshape your photo retailing
operation? The D1005 is a printing solution that is flexible and
open, integrating effortlessly with legacy and third party equipment.
The D1005 enables retailers to avoid the integration issues
presented by proprietary, closed-end printing systems. This ability
to fit seamlessly into most workflow environments means existing
equipment can be leveraged for maximum return on investment.
With greater ease of operation, the D1005 reduces setup and
training time and maintains critical efficient workflow in busy
retail environments.
While developing the D1005, Noritsu R & D engineers partnered with London
Drugs, a leading retailer in Canada, to ensure the new minilab would achieve the
the highest quality, versatility and efficiency. The D1005 successfully adapted to
their workflow and achieved the highest possible quality in dry printing technology.

Revolutionary Business Opportunities
There’s a reason Salinas, Calif.-based Cook’s Photography has been around for 130 years. With
each turn the imaging industry has taken, this family-run business has survived and thrived through
keen anticipation and profitable marketing strategies. Faced with the economic challenges of this
last year, Jason Cook, fourth-generation owner, sought ways to expand the company’s product
line to spur additional revenue.
Cook has been more than delighted to find that
the Noritsu D502 has provided a series of
ways to accomplish his margin-growth goal.
The D502 is a duplex inkjet printer that
produces traditional photo prints and a
wide array of photo-gifting products. With
the D502, Cook has been able to
reach beyond his niche customers of high
school senior portraits, weddings and family
portraits to a growing customer base interested
in specialty items like photo books. “The D502 is
revolutionary for me,” Cook raves. “It has allowed us to really build
upon the services that we already offer.”
For example, Cook now offers portrait customers a photo book of all the session’s
shots for just “a little more” than what it would cost to give them a set of proofs they
would use to select their favorites.
One senior took him up on the offer, purchasing a host of poses taken during the
session for a mini photo book she’s used to show off her favorite shots. The D502’s
pairing with the Lucidiom APM kiosk is also a perk Cook appreciates. Lucidiom’s
photo book templates allow consumers to play with different designs and really “feel
involved with the process,” he says. “They order the product from the kiosk, it goes
directly to our lab and is processed in minutes.”
“The D502 opens the
door of creativity for
your customers.
Why can’t my
customer combine
their family shots with
mine? Why can’t they
create a photo book
of all their images that
we shot, instead of
choosing just a few.
Now they can.”
— Jason Cook, owner,
Cooks Photography
The satisfaction of holding the photo book, greeting
card, calendar, or any other of the D502’s products,
is immediately priceless. And the opportunities the
D502 has opened for Cook continue as it solves
several key issues.
By placing a Lucidiom APM
kiosk in his portrait studio
lobby, Jason Cook has opened
the door to creativity for his
customers, and more printing
profits for his business.
“One of the most frustrating things was that if a customer wanted a double-sided card, I
would have to send it out,” Cook explains. “Now I can do it in-house on a long- or shortterm run, and it is competitive. If someone wanted a bi-fold Christmas card, I could only
offer the traditional 4” x 8” card with envelopes. Now I can sell the bi-fold variety, allowing the
customer to print something inside.” Cook has had success producing photo books for business clients,
including realtors interested in showing off featured homes and a clothing designer highlighting the latest
fashions. “The D502 opens the door of creativity for any business owner to offer lots of different things,”
Cook advises. Its small footprint, virtually non-existent learning curve and dazzling color-printing attributes
have quickly gained favor at Cook’s Photography. “There are so many things you can do that will set you
apart,” he concluded.

Professional Photographers
Demand High Quality & Performance
The professional DSLR market continues to evolve and so do the expectations for print
quality from these cameras. The Noritsu D703 and QSS series printers provide the
reliable, high quality solutions that pro photographers demand.
“The D703. It’s fast. Reliable.
It does exactly what it’s supposed
to do. It makes you lots of money.”
Art Nijame, owner,
Palm Beach Photographic Centre
D703 Inkjet Printer
Delivering profitable results
The D703 provides a quality print by using an advanced type of
dye ink that produces crisp images with vivid colors. Automatic dot
size control ensures fine gradations with minimal ink consumption.
The ink used in the D703 has an improved molecular structure so it
is able to withstand light and ozone, thus producing prints that boast
excellent image permanence.
The D703 also delivers speed, with a capacity of approximately 650 prints per hour for 4”x6” prints and 280 prints per hour for
8x10” prints. Two D703 units can be stacked doubling capacity while taking up no additional floor space. This configuration yields an
impressive 1,300 prints per hour, giving the D703 the flexibility to grow as your needs increase.
The D703 can produce photos in sizes ranging from 3R all the way up to 10” x 36” panorama, enabling the user to offer a wide variety
of print services.
The D703 gives you the freedom to configure a network that meets your particular needs, as you can choose to connect a
wide variety of consumer terminals, film scanners, CD/DVD writers and other input/output devices, making for a
scalable system that allows you to add new services as needed.

how well Noritsu printers and Lucidiom APM photo kiosk
installations work well together.
Noritsu qss Series
continues to satisfy
QSS-37HD (High Definition) Minilab
The finest quality with flexibiltiy and reliability.
The QSS-37HD offers unparalleled resolution and quality,
yielding 12 bit prints at an amazing 640 dpi. This
produces prints with 5 times more pixels than prints
made with previous minilabs. The result is finely detailed
prints that have a dimension that is not available with other
printers.
With Noritsu’s EZ Controller software, camera raw image data is
supported for easy workflow from image capture to printing. Through
an agreement Noritsu has with Adobe Systems, raw image conversion
software is incorporated directly into EZ Controller, allowing files to be
converted to the DNG file format with images then enhanced by Noritsu’s
AccuSmart image processing technology. The result is prints that are automatically
produced with no special process or additional workflow required.
The QSS-37 HD Series produces up to 2,360 prints per hour (4”x6”) and is capable of print
sizes up to 12”x36” jumbo panoramas.
Samy Kamienowicz, CEO of Samy’s Camera in Los Angeles, California, relies on Noritsu to meet his
customers’ demands for quality products. “Over the years, we’ve continued to look to Noritsu to provide
us with imaging products that consistently meet our customer’s incredibly high standards. As our full-service
business continues to evolve and grow, we rely on Noritsu to be our imaging products partner.”
“Quality prints consumers
get from the Noritsu lab
are phenomenal and they
always come back.”
— Rick Harpel, owner,

Integration and compatibility with different
systems works well at Harpel’s — input from

Super Shimon
Software
Unique Feature Set Addresses
Diverse Range of Printing Needs
Perfecting Fingerprint Analysis
With 1000 DPI Resolutions
Noritsu continues to bring products to market that address the
changing printing needs of a multitude of different markets, such as
their M300 Pro which has carved out an important niche in many
new markets, including the law enforcement field, as illustrated in
the accompanying article.
Image resolution is always a key part of any output equation
but it is of particular importance within the law enforcement
world. Noritsu’s Super Shimon software supercharges the
output of Noritsu digital dry printers by doubling the print
resolution up to 1000 dpi. This level of increased resolution
is ideal for specialized law enforcement applications. Super
Shimon enables crime labs to maximize the output quality
of crime scene photos and to produce highly-detailed
fingerprint images.
The M300 is a dry printer featuring an inkjet system that is capable
of outputting from 3.5x5” up to 10”x36” prints using roll paper.
The M300 also accepts sheet paper. The unit is driven by Noritsu
technology that utilizes 7-color pigment inks for outstanding image
quality and excellent longevity.
M300 Pro Highlights:
• 7 color pigment ink process
• Stackable design allows increased productivity with no
additional floor space requirements
• Simple USB 2.0 connection
• Up to 265 prints per hour (4”x6”)
• Variety of Print Sizes: 3.5x5 up to 10”x36”.
On the outside, the M300 Pro has an extremely small footprint of
4.5 square feet, complemented by a unique scalable, stacking
design that allows additional M300 Pro units to be added to the
printing system without taking up additional space. On the inside,
versatility is a key part of the M300 feature set, providing users the
ability to handle multiple print sizes and the option of roll or manual
sheet paper feed.
Despite its compact size, the M300 Pro is a high capacity
printer capable of producing as many as 265 prints per hour
(4”x6”). Adding the aforementioned unique stacking configuration
capability, two printers can be installed without taking up additional
floor space effectively doubling the output capability.
With Super Shimon software, dDP-series, DP-series and
M300 printers now have three high resolution print modes
covering both traditional crime scene printing (evidence
and shoe/tire) and fingerprint analysis needs. In addition
to the Super Shimon 500 dpi and 1,000 dpi modes,
the software also features a special 720 dpi mode that
increases resolution with no change in print speed
For over 30 years, Noritsu has provided federal, state
and local law enforcement agencies across the US with
professional photo-processing equipment and expert photo
printing solutions.
