History
Aldermaston Park was originally
part of the great royal hunting estate of Windsor and became
the property of Sir Robert
Archard in 1115 as a gift from
King Henry I.
Several manor houses have stood on the site, the last
being The Manor House, the Elizabethan-style courtyard house built in the mid 19th
century.
This Grade II* listed building incorporates stained glass, the ornate hand carved staircase and the spectacular chimney
stacks from the 1636 house. The Manor House is now a hotel and conference centre.

Aldermaston itself was first recorded
in the Domesday Book of 1086. Just
one hour from London on the A340,
and about two miles from the A4,
most of its houses are now Grade II
listed. Many of these were former
estate workers’ cottages, built of
red and blue local brick. The public
house, The Hind’s Head, was built in
the 17th Century.
The Kennet and Avon Canal passes
nearby at Aldermaston Wharf.
