San Antonio de Padua del Cañon Catholic Church Page 2 Year C February 28, 2016 Third Sunday of Lent Today’s Readings Exodus 3:1-8a, 13-15 Psalm 103 1 Corinthians 10:1-6, 10-12 Luke 13:1-9 Pope Francis wants “Twenty-four Hours for the Lord,” around-theclock availability of the sacrament of reconciliation, implemented worldwide this Friday and Saturday. Celebrated with his oftrecommended “tenderness,” the sacrament is “a source of true interior peace,” says Francis, enabling people “to touch the grandeur of God’s mercy with their own hands” (Misericordiae Vultus, 17). In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus warns us against judging others. Focus instead, Jesus says, on deepening—or restoring—our own relationship with God, for during this Lenten springtime that Master Gardener can use even life’s manure (the parable’s “fertilizer”) to coax fresh fruit from a tree that seems hopelessly barren—us! Parishes preparing catechumens may choose John’s Gospel, which likewise cautions against judging. Imagine what the Samaritan woman’s lifelong neighbors thought of her multiple relationships. But by discovering Jesus, then sharing her good news—and Jesus—with those very neighbors, she whom they had probably judged quite sinful became instead their evangelist and “missionary of mercy.” —Peter Scagnelli, Copyright © J. They came through a leader, Moses, who was once plucked from the Nile River and was now herding his father-in-law’s sheep in the land of Goshen. The bush that burned but was not consumed shows us that God is inexhaustible mystery. Moses’ awe and deference are mixed with a touching conversational tone as he seeks to learn God’s name. And God sweetly responds. The somewhat abstract “I AM” distinguishes the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob from the minor gods in the territory who “are not.” They are helpless, powerless, and useless. Moses is to step out into an amazing future, and God will be there with outstretched arm. Just go and see, God seems to say. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. The sale of these precious articles supports their Church Mission which is to maintain the roots and the existence of the Christian Families who are struggling to remain in Bethlehem. At least Ninety percent of the funds raised through these sales go directly to Christians living in the Bethlehem area. The proceeds will create more work which will help them to survive and stay in the Holy Land since they have no other source of income and are dependent on the olive wood industry. The Adult should keep a hand on the shoulder of the younger children. Gently guide them forward, close to the Priest or Minister of Communion. Show them how to hold their hands up high and out. (Remember Fr Dave is very tall!) Please stay with your children. It is best not to send them to different Ministers of Communion, but to stay with them and let them see and experience your example of the practice of our Faith. For those who are not yet of age to receive the Eucharist, keep them close with you and show them how to cross their arms over their chest prior to standing in front of the Priest or Minister of Communion. Keep your hand on their shoulder and gently encourage them to stand close to the Minister for a simple blessing.
