Aquatics
Programs
The best way to protect your
children in and around the
water is to have them learn
how to swim. Our experienced
swim instructors emphasize
water safety while helping
children improve their form and
ability. Kids will have a blast
while developing their skills
and staying active in the water.
Parent/Infant Swim Classes
Ages 6 months to 5 years.
This class introduces parents
and infants to a safe aquatic
environment, while providing a
positive hands-on experience
for both. Skills such as blowing
bubbles, kicking and floating
are introduced.
PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS
Ages 3 to 5 years.
The YMCA Progressive Preschool Swim Program offers
children their first experience
in the pool without parental
assistance. Children learn
pool safety and basic skills
that are the building blocks
of swimming. The goal is
to introduce basic aquatic
locomotion skills, simultaneous
and alternating arm/leg action
on front and back. Participants
will build upon these skills
as they progress through the
aquatics program.
YOUTH SWIM LESSONS
Ages 6 to 12 years.
The YMCA Progressive Youth
Swim Program levels are
divided into the appropriate
ability groups. Children will
progress through levels as they
learn and develop new skills
and improve their technique.
Focus is on personal growth,
stroke development, water
safety, water sports, games,
and rescue skills. Our swim
lessons are more than just
techniques and skills, they
build friendships, develop selfesteem, and create positive
experiences that last a lifetime.
Stroke and Endurance
Ages 8 to 15
This class concentrates on
stroke mechanics of crawl,
back, breast and fly stroke and
endurance swimming.
Barracuda in Training (B.I.T.)
Ages ???
This program is geared to
swimmers who know the basics, but are not ready for the
swim team. Children will work
on stroke technique and endurance. Participants must be able
to swim 25 meters without a
bubble and be recommended by
a swim team coach.
Barracuda Swim Team
Ages 6 to 18
This competitive swim team
strives to provide an opportunity for young people to
participate in competitive
swimming under conditions
that will foster aquatic ability,
team spirit and sportsmanship. We encourage personal
goal setting, self-discipline,
achievement, commitment
and parental involvement. Our
coaches provide the professional expertise to help develop well-rounded ability in all
strokes. Swim Meets are held
on Saturdays, dive practices
are held on Fridays at the East
Providence Boys & Girls Club.
To join the team, swimmers
must be able to swim one pool
length on both front and back.
ADULT SWIM CLASSES
Teen and Adult Beginner/
Intermediate
This class teaches basic
swimming skills such as the
