OVERALL GREAT PRESENTATION. ” Tour for Humanity was honoured to partner with the South Simcoe Police Service at a -CAMP COUNSELOR ME TO WE CAMP ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, September 4, 2014. Innifsil Mayor Barb Baguley was in attendance, along with Harry Hughes, Deputy Warden for the County of Simcoe, and Bill Grodzinski, Director of Safety and Security for GO Transit. While on display at the South Simcoe Police Headquarters, the bus was also visited by members of the Regional Council and countless officers from the surrounding regions. At the ribbon cutting ceremony following the first workshop, both FSWC President & CEO, Avi Benlolo and “THE DISCUSSION ABOUT RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS WAS SOMETHING NEW THAT THEY [THE STUDENTS] WERE INTERESTED IN. ALSO THE DISCUSSION ON BULLYING WAS VERY RELEVANT FOR THEM. ” -TEACHER SUTTON VILLAGE PUBLIC SCOOL Holocaust survivor Max Eisen spoke to an attentive audience of police officers, community members and local dignitaries. The audience was clearly delighted to hear first-hand testimony from a Holocaust survivor; Police Constable Rob Enwright noted Mr. Eisen’s presentation “was truly a wonderful honor.” Eastern Ontario Trip Now that schools are back in session, T4H is gearing up for a lively fall “THE PRESENTATION INCLUDED A LOT OF INFORMATION -VERY EYE OPENING FOR THE STUDENTS. CONNECTIONS BETWEEN CYBER-BULLYING AND HISTORICAL EVENTS WERE MADE -VERY IMPORTANT! ” season. Our Educators recently -TEACHER EMMA KING SCHOOL returned from an exciting trip to our Nation’s Capital the week of September 15-19, 2014. After presenting to schools in Bancroft and Gloucester, Tour for Humanity hosted workshops at University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Education. Teacher candidates had the chance to Teacher candidates at University of Ottawa on the T4H bus see how beneficial T4H’s message of tolerance and justice is to students and to think about how they can help spread the message when they are teachers in the near future. Tour for Humanity visited multiple residential camps over the summer, including Camp Ramah in Muskoka in July and Me to We Camp in Kawartha T4H, Me to We Camp, August 2014 Lakes in August. The workshops were Students at Camp Ramah viewing the presentation conducted in the same manner as are school programs, with campers attending programs all day. At Camp Ramah, Counselor Keren Romm commented on the effectiveness of the presentation, stating “it was comprehensive. Not too graphic but still very powerful.” At Me to We camp, Counselor Kate Ashwood was pleased to see her campers “were very engaged on the heavy issues of genocide and the Holocaust,” while counselor Joanna Lim added, “the space is conducive to learning and participation.” Freedom Day 2014 For the second year in a row, Tour for Humanity provided a visible reminder of the scope of FSWC’s efforts to promote tolerance and social justice at Freedom Day; more than 3,500 students participated in FSWC’s Freedom Day event at Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square in September. Emceed by Entertainment Tonight Canada’s Rick Campanelli, the program featured Double Gold Medal-Winning Olympic Hockey Player Meaghan Mikkelson, Aboriginal Activist Wab Kinew, Holocaust survivor Max Eisen, Sierra Leone civil war survivor Mariatu Kamara and Founder of Pink Shirt Day, Travis Price. Upcoming Events Western Ontario Trip T4H is booked at schools in Brampton, Oakville and Milton Double Olympic Gold Medal Winner Meaghan Mikkelson and FSWC President & CEO Avi Benlolo in front of T4H at Freedom Day 2014 OHASSTA 2014 virtually every day in October and November. In order to reach Tour for Humanity is honored to have been chosen to present a more outlying areas, we are focusing our efforts on bringing the workshop at the Ontario History and Social Science Teachers’ Tour to the London-Windsor-Niagara region in December, as Association’s annual conference in Toronto on November 14, numerous schools have already expressed interest in hosting T4H 2014. OHASSTA is a volunteer organization of practicing History in these communities. Stay tuned for additional details! and Social Science teachers in Ontario’s elementary and secondary schools.
