They incorporate all of the advantages and non of the disadvantages of other types of heat exchangers. High capacity Unlike conventional shell and tube heat exchangers, Ecotherm's high capacity heat exchangers are equipped with patented free floating turbulator rods for greatly increased performance. The domestic water flows through the heat exchanger at high speed, reaching final output temperature in one single pass through the heat exchanger in less than 1 second. Turbulent flow, contraflow The turbulent flow of the thin film of domestic water greatly increases the surface area mix of water in contact with heat transfer tubes. Domestic water flows in the opposite direction of the fluid in the primary circuit, resulting in the highest possible temperature gradient across the tube walls over the whole length of the heat exchanger. The exponentially increased rate of heat transfer, coupled with the fast domestic water flow speed of approximately 1.5 m/s greatly enhances the overall performance to size ratio of the heat exchanger. Compact Due to increased performance thanks to the patented free floating turbulator rods, Ecotherm's high capacity heat exchangers are more compact than conventional shell and tube heat exchangers. Built-in anti-fouling The high speed of water flow and the oscillating action of the free floating turbulator rods prevent fouling deposits from collecting in the heat exchanger. This feature ensures maximum efficiency and optimum hygiene throught the lifelong service of the heat exchanger. Easily dismantled The external configuration and maintenance friendly design of the heat exchanger ensures minimum down-time for access and inspection of internal parts. They fulfil many important functions: z Efficient heat transfer - The free floating turbulator rods in the centre of the heat exchanger tubes force thin films of water to flow along the walls of the tubes. The high water surface exposure per volume makes efficient heat transfer possible. Thanks to the fast flow rate, Ecotherm High Speed Heat Exchangers perform at around 3500 to 5000 W/m² K, which makes even low temperature output from the boiler perfectly satisfactory for efficient operation. z Turbulent flow - The free floating turbulator rods constantly oscillate from side to side. This lateral movement causes turbulent water flow in the tubes, which is beneficial for z z efficient heat transfer. (Poor mixing caused by laminar water flow would greatly reduce heat transfer efficiency). High speed flow - The free floating turbulator rods cause the water to pass through the heat exchanger at high speed of approximately 1.6 m/s. This high speed and turbulent flow prevents lime scale from depositing onto the walls of the tube. The heat exchanger therefore remains free of lime scale and maintains maximum efficiency over a long period of time. (Lime scale deposits would act as a heat insulator, greatly reducing the rate of heat transfer) Self cleaning action - The constantly oscillating rods rub any lime off the walls of the tubes, thus further ensuring that maximum efficiency is maintained.
