Design
Wistron provides comprehensive, in-depth, integrated design services. Various
experienced design teams work together from the initial product conceptualization
phase on through NPI for transition to our manufacturing centers. Design services are
conducted in-house with a combination of industry standard and Wistron-designed
equi pment and technology. Our focus on ICT products allows Wistron's talented
engineering base to focus on the related skill sets, technology, processes and
equi pment used to support our customer needs and remain a leader for product
development in this industry.
Early in the design process Wistron's design philosophy and process flow includes
design for manufacturing (DFM), design for test (DFT), as well as design for service
(DFS) elements. This means that Wistron's design cycle includes and integates as
much as possible all engineering tasks from product concept development to all
related and prototyping and testing teams, as well as incorporating necessary
after-sales service teams requirements.
Incorporating of DFM, DFT and DFS elements as early as possible into the product
development life cycle facilitates the subsequent manufacturing processes. NPI for
transition to our manufacturing centers is streamlined as many potential obstacles
are managed early in the process. In addition, we increase customer confidence in
the overall product design feasibility and schedule for volume production.

Product development
Design
Wistron's Industrial Design teams are part of the initial teams brought in to
support our customers. Wistron role is to understand every aspect of the overall
product direction. From this understanding, Wistron addresses all related
engineering challenges, such as material/styling considerations, component selection,
functionality (e.g. wireless features), testing challenges, volume manufacturing
stress, packaging and environmental impact.
Customers rely on Wistron to provide a variety of design related engineering
services to match their product development requirements. Wistron's in-house
capabilities include all aspects of product conceptualization on through to
prototyping. Wistron's teams provide a range of services including comprehensive
thermal, power, structural and reliability engineering services tailored for ICT
products.
Branded suppliers of electronics products are now introducing more market-oriented products
which must meet higher customer demands in a variety of areas. Now, more than ever, products
must utilize the proper design for ergonomics, "looks" and sometimes simply feature uniqueness
from a market segmentation point of view.
Fashionable, beautiful products with robust features are now essential. Wistron ID teams have the
full range of product development experience for commercial and consumer products. This allows
for quick and practical interaction with customers to find the perfect design that matches their
market requirements.
11
Testing
Design
Wistron utilizes a full suite of industry standard testing equi pment to ensure durability, strength and reliability.
Tests ensure that all aspects of product development are thoroughly analyzed. Our testing facilities allow us and
our customers to validate the design and feasibility of manufacturing the product prototype. Comprehensive
in-process testing during the product development stage means early detection of necessary engineering changes
to meet customers' reliability requirements.
In addition to standard rigorous testing procedures, our testing engineers design unique product-specific testing
equipment and processes. A focus on ICT products means Wistron accumulates valuable testing experience allowing
Wistron to pinpoint areas of potential problems in specific types of products. In this way, Wistron can match or
exceed our customers standards for product reliability.
The overall goal is to increase speed-to-market with high-yield
manufacturing, while decreasing future failures in the field. Early
detection and correction of defects in the early stages of product
development can lead to significant reductions in problems during
volume manufacturing, as well as a reduction in service costs due to
high failure rates and warranty costs.
Regulatory Certifications
Our in-house regulatory testing facilities provide our customers access to professional testing services
and quick turnaround times. Wistron's qualified personnel and numerous labs utilize a vast array of
equi pment and technology to allow for market specific and global accreditation approvals. For global
customers looking to market their products around the world, Wistron offers a comprehensive suite of
international regulatory certifications.
Wistron labs not only support Wistron designed products and our
OEM customers' products, but also provide various certification
services to outside companies who simply wish to utilize our
professional labs and personnel. An example is Wistron’s Lungtan
EMI testing laboratory providing certification services for nonWistron related products.
12
Manufacturing
Wistron has a long history of strong manufacturing services. We offer a full suite
of industry - leading manufacturing services, from PCB assembly, sub-systems assembly,
system integration (including CTO/BTO product assembly) to all related in-process
quality assurance testing. The manufacturing process for the world's most respected
brand name products are coordinated amongst several plants on different continents.
Experience means that Wistron can seamlessly integrate the product development
stages with the required manufacturing processes to create an efficient NPI process.
Wistron knows the many concerns of our customers, so we developed a manufacturing
process and IT infrastructure based on a flexible, efficient approach to manage our
customers' changing requirements.
All processes are managed by a robust shop floor control system (SFCS) that allows
constant monitoring and corrections. Through our Order Tracking System (OTS)
customers track products down to component levels. The links between customers
and Wistron provide the necessary information flow to maximize the production
process efficiency. This enhances our customers' overall product introduction
planning as well as preparations for the after-sales servicing of products upon
reaching the marketplace.

Program planning
Service
Wistron's after-sales service programs cover various levels of the service
process chain. These programs are offered to our OEM customers, as well
as to outside customers wishing Wistron to support non-Wistron produced
products. Wistron's flexibility and experience allows us to either fit into
our customers' existing service process chain to provide support where
needed or take control and manage various layers of the chain.
For OEM customers, we work closely with customer's product development teams to understand and suggest a future service repair program. The overall goal
is to create the strongest service program possible which can be supported adequately at product launch time, during product warranty periods and even
beyond warranty periods. For non-OEM customers, Wistron can diagnose and repair faulty products that it did
not originally produce, providing needed emergency support or standard long-term service planning and coverage.
Programs are customized to fit specific products and markets. Wistron's programs include full repair capability,
reverse logistics, warehouse management, documentation support, training materials, and EDI linkage with comprehensive
IT solutions. Program business model coverage includes FRU and CRU services, hub management and depot repair
services. Wistron's engineering teams also manage the special requests, such as specific testing and repair processes,
identified by customers as necessary to meet their changing requirements.
Customer support
Top-level objectives for customer support include improving product service repair turnaround times, maintaining short- to long-term spare parts planning
systems, and creating efficient and easily managed information databases at all levels of the service chain. Technology, experience and a practical approach are
used to meet these objectives. Customers benefit by lowering their overall involvement, and thus cost, in the service cycle of activities.
Wistron meets service objectives with integrated IT systems created to support personnel worldwide, as
well as other Wistron departments involved at various stages of the service supply chain. Extensive
information databases are linked to all RMA service centers, RTV operations, warehouses, and repair centers,
as well as all related logistics teams. Repair orders, current repair status, end-user information, and
testing results are parts of the integrated and comprehensive repair control flow available for daily
review or periodic summary analysis.
Customers have access to Wistron's service IT systems through customized service support web pages.
Meanwhile, Wistron's service teams can provide the necessary EDI links to customers' call centers, as well
as their existing ASPs, in order to exchange the daily data necessary for prompt, efficient and cost
effective repair operations. Transparent, detailed information is tailored to fit into the service management
processes of all of the repair related parties at all levels. This not only allows our customers to audit
the performance of Wistron and local ASPs, but also provides the necessary data for customers to
fine-tune their own service-related operations.
