That’s how long I have called Waverly, Iowa home. Not really a big deal unless you put things in perspective, this is the second longest I have lived in the same home…in my nearly 54 years. By the time I was 15 I had lived in 5 different homes in 3 different states. I spent nearly 20 years in the south. I graduated from high school and college in Tennessee and spent most of my first career in Georgia. But, I’ve also lived in Pennsylvania, Illinois and Colorado! It’s almost enough to give a gal a complex. Except. Except for one thing… You see, first and foremost I consider myself to be a citizen of the Kingdom of God. As an infant I was claimed by God, baptized and adopted into God’s big family in a Methodist Church in Butler, Pennsylvania. In 1977 I was confirmed by God in a United Methodist Church in Morris Chapel, Tennessee. In 1991 God called me back to the church by profession of faith at Mountain View United Methodist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia. In 2002 my call by God to enter the ministry was affirmed by Eldora United Methodist Church here in Iowa. All along the way, no matter the twists and turns, I am reminded again and again that first and foremost I am a citizen of the Kingdom of God – and that makes all the difference in the world. Trinity Times 5 This month I give thanks for the community that has been home for my 4 children and myself over the past 5 years. You have been with us to celebrate both my daughters’ marriages, the birth of grandson Zayden (aka Z), Ethan’s graduation and y’all are getting to watch Justin grow into a fine young man. We have been adopted into the Waverly community because of who you are – sisters and brothers in Christ. No matter what our culture says about church folk (and, alas, most of the time there isn’t very good news from pollsters and the like), do not doubt that we have been blessed to be a blessing and called to lift up and build up the Kingdom of God in our particular place and time. So how do I see Trinity United Methodist Church doing this? We are doing Kingdom work together! I am so proud and blessed to be able to witness the many ways that our church throws open our doors to our community – we are known as a place of hospitality, learning, healing, and sharing. Because of your faithfulness men and women, young and old meet Jesus here, and for this I give thanks and praise! I am curious to see what the Holy Spirit has in store for us in the months to come. More than anything, I am looking forward to the ways that we will grow as children of God and citizens of God’s Kingdom. We have some fun things planned for this summer! Enjoy our June/July newsletter and I hope to see you soon! As you may have noticed we have experienced some roof/wall leaks at the Wesley Foyer drive-up canopy. A roof membrane leak was detected about 1 ½ years ago and was repaired. The repair did not last and further damage has occurred. We have removed the damaged areas including some windows. To insure there is no further damage we will be removing the row of windows just above the roof canopy so we can further inspect for damage. We will be replacing the roof but we will not be replacing the windows. This summer we have many opportunities to connect with your church family and the community. We hope you’ll join us for some fun! Lifetree Café will continue on Wednesdays at 6pm. I hope sometime this summer you’ll join us. If you haven’t been to Lifetree Café yet you may be wondering what to expect. Don’t be shy, I promise we don’t bite. Contact me for more information or stop by the office and visit with Ross. This July we will have a group of Senior High Youth and adults participate in a mission Trip to the Matthew 25 ministry in the Czech Village of Cedar Rapids. While there the group will be working on the Urban Farm, assisting on a housing project, and helping neighbors in the community. There are so many ways to Celebrate, Learn, and Serve together. I know we all have many summer activities on our plate but I hope you’ll join in on some of the great group activities your church is offering.
