DESTINATION
ROME
Rome, the "Eternal City", is eternally beautiful. In an area measuring just a few square kilometers, any number of
historic monuments can be found, monuments adopted as symbols of Italy, throughout the world. From the
Imperial Forum, the Coliseum and the Domus Aurea of ancient Rome, to the fashionable shopping district of today's
vibrant capital city. In via dei Condotti the shop windows are filled with enticing displays all the way to Piazza di
Spagna and the much photographed flight of steps (the Spanish Steps) which leads to the Trinità dei Monti church.
In the heart of the historic center of Rome lie the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Campo dei Fiori.
Coasting the banks of the Lungotevere, on the other side of the river Tiber, we find the colorful district of
Trastevere, Castel Sant'Angelo and the via della Conciliazione, this latter the road which links Rome with the
Vatican City. An autonomous state within the Italian capital, the Vatican embraces faithful and tourists alike in the
Piazza San Pietro, square bordered by an imposing colonnade. The immense St Peter's Basilica is an artistic
masterpiece of inestimable value, as is the splendid Sistine Chapel, principal attraction of the Vatican .

Tour 1 – Day 1, afternoon
Imperial Rome
This part of the journey is dedicated to the Roman Empire. We begin from
the Colosseum, symbol of the power and of the eternity of the Ancient Rome
(it is said that “if the Colosseum should fall, Rome and the world will
follow”). It was the largest amphitheater in the ancient world, where heroic
gladiators and fierce animals challenged each other unto death, all for the
pleasure of the Emperor and the public. We will see the Arch of
Constantine, commemorating the conversion of pagan Rome to Christianity.
Afterwards, we walk through what was the center and heart of ancient
Rome… the Forum. We walk by the Senate House, where the destiny of the
Western world was decided, and see the very spot from which Marc'Antonio
delivered his famous..."Friends, Romans, Countrymen.." oration on the
assassination of Julius Cesar. The visit will conclude with the visit of
Campidoglio. Michelangelo designed not only the pattern of the square, but
also the renovation of the facades of the three buildings located on the
square: Palazzo dei Conservatori, Palazzo Senatorio, Palazzo Nuovo.
Tour 2 – Day 2, morning

Private visit of Vatican Museums
After the closure time of the Museum it is possible to organize a private visit for your group. This visit will
include the Gallery of the Maps, where a magnificent ceiling decorated with stucco and paintings showing the
Miracles of the Church shelters a double line of frescoes representing all the Italian regions as they were in
1580. This is the first example ever of maps with a reference scale. We will also visit the courtyard of the pine
cone, which takes its name from a gigantic bronze pine cone from ancient Roman times. The court was built by
the great Renaissance artist Donato Bramante, and was used for tournaments all through the 16° century.
Our visit will also take in Raphael’s Rooms, the residence of several popes. The frescoes with stories of the
Church are the work of some of the greatest Renaissance artists led by Raphael.
The frescoes on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel and the world-famous Last Judgement are the highest work of
Michelangelo: the ones on the side walls, among which are works by Botticelli and Pinturicchio, are to be
considered the greatest concentration of Renaissance frescoes in the whole world.

Rome, the hillside group of towns beginning along the Appian Way(Roman
Castles) . After breakfast, departure from the hotel to a meeting point

We always recommend to start the tour outside Rome due to the traffic jams
and the chaos of the city. Just past the periphery of the city are the Colli
Albani and the 13 towns of the Castelli Romani. A summer resort area for
wealthy Romans since the days of the Empire, its towns were mainly founded
by popes and patricians families. Castel Gandolfo and Frascati are perhaps
the best known: the former is the summer residence of the Pope and the
latter is famous for its crisp white wine. Perhaps you have tried already the
nice fresh white wine from Frascati? First visit of the characteristic country
towns like Castelgandolfo, Rocca di Papa….. then continue to a well known
restaurant Pagnanelli. To enjoy first a wine tasting followed by a
wonderful lunch with a magnificent view over the lake and mountains.

important restoration of Piazza Del Popolo and Pincio in Rome. Valadier
revised in neoclassical style the prior Casino Della Rota, a 16th century
building built on the remains of an ancient Roman cistern.
From the beginning, Casina was planned and built to be used as a meeting
place after the manner of French Bistro but not withstanding the incredible
beauty of the place and the view, a lot of time was needed to obtain the
satisfaction of the Romans, patrons of other famous meeting places such as
the Caffè Veneziano on the Corso or Nazzarri in Piazza di Spagna.
Only after the First World War did Casina become the most fashionable
place in Rome, a haunt for artists, intellectuals and political figures of the
world. In Casina Valadier album of honour there are autographs of

Horti Sallustiani
Located in the centre of Rome, a few steps from Via Veneto, in one of the
capital’s most suggestive and beautiful areas, the Horti Sallustiani
represent an ideal occasion discover a place of historical, artistic and
archaeological importance.
The Horti Sallustiani, once owned by Julius Cesar (100-44 B.C.), who wrote
here his famous works “The Histories” and “The Conspiracy of Catiline”, and
later on became part of the imperial property. Under the reign of Hadrian
(117 – 138), the Horti Sallustiani were even more enriched and enlarged,
recalling the architecture of his splendid residence in Tivoli. The position of
the monumental structure, relatively far from the chaotic city life, but
anyhow sufficiently close to the centres of the political life, favoured it’s
choice as a temporary residence by the emperors, alternatively to the
Palatino official residence.
The ruins of the Horti Sallustiani originated from the sack by Alaric Goths
in 410, that started the plunder and destruction from these splendid
buildings, causing damages that no one would ever repair.
Testimony of the importance and splendours of the archaeological site are
the works of art that have been found, notwithstanding the spoliation that
has taken place in time. Here there are among the most extraordinary works
of the Roman sculpture, such as the Ludovisi Throne and the two groups of
the Dying Galatean and the Galatean suicide.
Today in modern Rome, cross-road of ministries and offices, the complex of
horti Sallustiani is without doubt one of the most important building of the
imperial city and represents what still remains of the ancient Rome. The
ruins are only the rests of a luxurious garden loved from Emperor Caesar
and Aurelian.
