Welcome!
StuWi is about to start! During this week Risoul is THE hot-spot! Since early December lots of
snow has fallen, this promises a lot!
We leave January 22, 2010 to the French village named Risoul located in the Cottische Alps. This
program booklet contains all the information you need to know about the trip. You will find slope
rules, NSskiK, (theme)party’s, the organization, events, activities and last but not least a packing
list. Check the rules and tips for the arrival day. We will try to keep the waiting time as short as
possible but waiting lines will be there with this many student arriving at the same time .
This year there will be a varied program. During the week there will be three theme days, coupled
with the daytime activities. These days end with a theme party at la Grotte du Yeti.
The Dutch students ski championship(NSskiK) wil take place on one day this year. The entire day
will be marked with the games, with the Integrand slalom in the morning followed by the Freestyle and Big Air. The Big Air will be judged by the crew of Ripstar. Ripstar will also give a show in
the afternoon! This show will be on display while enjoying a beer on the outdoor Après-ski in front
of la Grotte du Yeti. Also about the little brother of NSskiK, ONSsnowK, you will find information
in this booklet.
Events as the ‘Biercantus’, ‘Snowballwars’ and the ‘Bierestafette’ will be joint by ‘Glij’m erin’ and
the ‘BigAirBAG’. Do not miss any and enjoy these activities!
To make the bus trip more pleasant, you will receive a goodie bag by departure. One of the things
you will find is something exciting to read. On Saturday we are waiting for you in Risoul to make
the week unforgettable. We really look forward to this trip, hopefully you too!
See you in Risoul!

History
In 2002 the idea arose in Eindhoven with a group of students to do a winter sports trip. The
winter sports association Avalanche Boarders of the TU/e decided to realize this idea. On this trip
66 students went to Praloup(France).
Infected by this success, students from other cities joined to organize this trip and
Studentenwintersport(StuWi) was born. Thanks to partnership between student sports
organizationsof the cities of Groningen, Enchede, Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Wageningen 530 students went to le Crobier(France) for StuWi 2003. The following years StuWi went to Risoul(2004),
Avoriaz(2005), Solin d’Arves Saint(2006), Risoul(2007), les Menuires(2008) and Valmorel(2009).
In the years, StuWi slowly but surely became a familiar name in studying and winter-sporting
people of the Netherlands. In recent years Maastricht, Delft, Tilburg, Utrecht and Amsterdam
joined the organization of StuWi.
Over the last few years the number of participants continue to grow. With the 1030 participants
who went to Valmorel last year a great success was booked. This year we will visit Risoul for the
third time and again it will be one big trip!

The organization
Studentenwintersport foundation consists of a Supervisory Board and a organization of a three
headed national main board and various committees. The main board is responsible and delegates tasks within the various committees: the promotion, sponsorship, communication, NSskiK
and activities committee. The nineteen organization members are recognizable by white and
green coats with StuWi logo printed on the back. Below a photo book to make it easier:

packing
Packing for beginners
You have just stuffed your complete wardrobe and everything that seems useful in the largest
suitcase you could find: good idea? Nope! We go skiing and therefore you need some knowledge.
The standard ski pass is valid on Saturday morning from 13:00pm. After ± 18.00. you can enter
your apartment. Before that, take one of the many ski lifts and already explore the slopes or
drink a beer at the Yeti!
A tip: Put only things needed for the first day (1 pair of trousers, 1 pair of socks, gloves, protection, boots, etc.) in your board, ski or shoe bag. In that way you do not need to worry about your
big suitcase and you do not have to carry around 10 kilo’s of clothes trough the bus!
Checklist
What do you really NOT want to forget? On the internet there are a lot of web sites with good
information and checklists, but we think you certainly should not forget the following things:
•ID card or passport - a drivers license can not be used as valid identification in foreign countries.
•Insurance card and papers - (including travel insurance) - ensure that you have your international health insurance card at hand. This can be recognized by the European logo and the blue
color. You could arrange a travel insurance at StuWi. Besides your own travel and health insurance you can take out an all-risk insurance in Risoul to the amount of € 17, -. With this you are
insured for all costs on the piste, including costs for a banana or helicopter flight and off-piste
activities. Note: This is not an alternative to a travel insurance!
•Cash - we recommend that you take at least € 100 euro’s with you. Caution! There are only 2
ATMs in the center of Risoul and those may become empty during the week, therefore be assured of enough cash.
•Gloves (waterproof) and a hat.
•Waterproof / resistant (ski) pants and coat - Thermal underwear and warm clothing are also
highly recommended.
•Thick winter socks
•Decent shoes - Remember that we are there in the middle of the winter and there will be snow
everywhere in Risoul. Open shoes, slippery soles or high heels are not very handy.
•Sunglasses and / or ski goggles
•Sunscreen

Lip Balm
Ski / snowboard equipment - if you have not rented.
Bath and dish towels
Medication (if you are on any medication, please inform the tour guide)
A good tip for the bus: motion sickness pills. Anti-hangover medications like aspirin can also be a godsend.
Mobile phone and charger
Food and drink (for theoutward journey and the first day) - unless of course you
want to spend your money in gas stations or want to benefit the StuWi discounts
already on the first day.
ÀÀ Sheets for the mattress and a slip for the blanket and pillow - Mattress, pillow and
blanket are available, not linen. Unless of course you have already booked this.
ÀÀ Clothing for theme parties and the other party nights - Of course you want to
attract all the attention, and you do not want to dance in your StuWi sweater all
night!
Luggage
To save you a little and make sure that the bus can still move, there are a number of limits imposed on the amount of luggage you can take per person:
ÀÀ 1 suitcase or overnight bag Up to 20 kilos, (in some buses they can be weighted) so do take
with you your entire wardrobe, shoes, beauty case, wine cellar and kitchen cabinet ;-)
ÀÀ •1 pair of ski’s or 1snowboard Dismantle soft boot bindings at home to simplify the
storage of the equipment in the bus
ÀÀ 1 pair ski or snowboard boots
ÀÀ 1 small bag as hand luggage for in the bus
Label all pieces of luggage with your data
(name, address, mobile, e-mail, home number).
Note: whatever happens, you are responsible for your
own luggage. This is normally covered by your travel
insurance. Sportura and Studentenwintersport are
not liable for any loss or damage of your luggage

Domestic Comm
unications
Snowtime
After the monthly Snowtime, you will get the latest news in Risoul every day in de Daily Snowtime. It contains many useful facts. This daily paper can be picked up simultaneously with the
bread!
During the wintersport you can send all your expressions of love, gossips and literary excesses
via SMS to the Daily Snowtime, which will than be published the next day! The number to which
you can send your messages will be published in the first Daily Snowtime.
Information hour
Every day there is an information hour (infouurtje) from 17:00 to 18:00.h. at La Grotte du Yeti.
You can come here with all your questions and comments. On Saturday there is an extra long
information hour, from 07:00 to 21:00h. Ensure that you have returned the list of the inventory
of your apartment before 21:00h. at the information hour.
Appartement, inventory, damage and theft
The disposition of the apartments will be made by StuWi. Each bed has to be filled, what sometimes can have as a result that groups have to be putted together. If you have registered a
group of 6 persons, it can occur that it will not be possible to place all the 6 people in the same
apartment. This might sound very annoying. Though previous years have shown that it can be
really nice to get to know new people in this way. We will do our utmost to please everyone, but
we can not guarantee anything.
When you do not return the list of the inventory of the apartment, you will be held responsible
for any damage to the apartment, even if that damage was caused before you came to Risoul.
In order to get back your deposit afterwards it is very important to hand in the list of flaws
on the forehand. Write everything down, also the things that are already broken, scratched
walls, cracks in tables, trash on the balcony, everything. Take pictures of the existing damage
as evidence. Report also damage in the corridor of your complex caused by other students to
the StuWi organization, only than we can do something about that, otherwise the costs of the
damage will be spread over the entire corridor.
Be careful with leaving your equipment unattended on the slopes and near the Yeti bar. There
are plenty Frenchmen with bad intentions and unfortunately also among students theft is not
rare! Use a lock to secure your ski’s or board, and do not leave your belongings unattended.
Do also not store your equipment at the balcony. We say this because of possible theft, and
because the cold can make your equipment rust. Therefore be sure that you dry your material
before storing it.
10
Deposit
The deposit (à 75 euros) this year has been billed. Saturday, 31th of January 2010 on the departure day everyone has to be out of their apartment before 08.15pm. The apartment has to be
clean. This means: no more garbage, food products, no dirt in sanitary rooms and on floors, the
dish wash has to be finished and putted away and of course, leave the apartment behind the
way you found it.
Caution! Deliver the keys before 09:00am at the information hour in the la Grotte du Yeti.
After checking out, the apartments will be checked by someone of the StuWi organization and
someone representing the owner of the apartments, Sara. If their will be no damage discovered
to your apartment or rented equipment, we will return the full deposit on your account after
you get home.

Risoul
In skiresort le Domaine de la Forêt Blanche, Risoul and it’s neighbour village Vars are for sure the
nicest places. The village is located at 1850 meter altitude and has 180 kilometers of piste. The
apartments are situated at the foot of the slopes, just as La Grotte du Yeti and lifts, allowing you
easy access to the slopes. The village itself is slightly lower, but is also within walking distance of
the apartments. The wooden chalets are in one line next to each other, so you have a nice view
on the slopes of the mountainmass in the distance. All this makes for a nice compact Risoul village which perfectly emerges the ‘StuWi-feeling’.
The ski area
the ski area is quite large with its 180 kilometer of slopes, and has something for everyone. The
height of the area ranges from approximately 1650 to 2750 meters. There is a multitude of blue
runs, but also a wide selection of red and black slopes and beginners can practice their moves
on the green slopes. For experienced skiers, there are attractive buckle black pistes and off
piste-routes to explore. Furthermore, the ski area a fun park ‘espace Freestyle’, a Big Air in front
of the Yeti and a natural half pipe!

The Yeti-bar
Our apartments are located above La Grotte du Yeti, and of course there is the nightly a party
going on. The Yeti is the central place of StuWi 2010 and located closeby the lifts and your apartment. The Yeti is open every day from 14:00h. until 02:00h. Every evening will be turned upside
down by our own DJ’s. Our advice is to plunge into your bed at the end of the party to be fresh
en sportive the next day. Besides the après-ski parties and themes you can enjoy outdoor aprèsski and various activities will be organized near the place Yeti, including the BigAirBAG.
Of course, there won’t be just theme-parties! Every evening you are welcome in the Yeti for your
daily (over)dose fun! Ofcourse, at the theme parties you are dressed slightly differently!
It is often very hot in the Yeti. There is no wardrobe, but since the apartments are located on
crawling distance, this shouldn’t be a problem. If you throw a sweater in the corner anyway, this
will be your own risk. The bar will be exclusive for StuWi the whole week, ensure that you will
carry your StuWi-card with you every day. You can pay with this card in la Grotte du Yeti, the Yeti
Lounge and the Yeti snackbar. The Yeti lounge is daily opened from 09:00h.
You can put money on the card by handing money to the bartender or pay with pin. Everytime
you buy a drink, the amount will be written off. With the pass you have free access to le Morgan,
a nightclub in the village. Of course, like every year we arranged good agreements. For beer,
wine or limonade you will pay only € 1.85 in the Yeti. Also for drinks there is a discount price.
It is extremely forbidden to smoke in the Yeti! For public drinking in Risoul you will get a fine
of €90,- and if you own or use (soft) drug, you will be removed permanently from the village.
Furthermore, according to the Yeti-bar manager sais: ‘Everything is possible, but nothing may
break’ and ‘Don’t forget the bartender!’. The Yeti has international bartenders, so they speak
English.
13
Eating and drinking
Sports expends a lot of energy, skiing or boarding even more. You might think that beer or wine
gives you a boost of energy, but you are going to want to eat some bread. Therefore you can
pick up a free piece of baguette every morning between 08.00 and 09.00h at boulangerie ‘Pain’.
We will hand out bread for everyone in your apartment at once, so feel free to sleep a bit longer
while your housemates get it for you.
On Saturday, the meal packages can be picked up at the entrance of your apartment. Come
in pairs, the package contains food for a whole week so it might be heavy! This year, we will
arrange a real StuWi barbecue in the Yeti Lounge, which is located on the left of the Yeti. This
barbecue is provided entirely by La Grotte du Yeti. You will participate in this barbecue on one of
these following days:
Sunday, January 25 18.00-20.00 h
Monday, January 26 18.00-20.00 h
Thursday, January 29 18.00-20.00 h
The classification of the groups will be announced after your arrival in Risoul.
In several restaurants it’s possible to eat with StuWi-discount. All these restaurants are recognisable by StuWi-banners and are located on the right of the Yeti: the Yeti-snackbar, La Chaumiere
and Le Cherine. In le Cherine it’s possible to have a pizza of lasagne for €8,-, including a free
drink. More information about the discounts will be published in the first Daily Snowtime.
Money and shopping
The amount of money you will need for this week depends on your lifestyle. Our experience
learns that 250 euros should be enough. In case of an accident or an emergency, make use you
have some extra money on your bankaccount or creditcard. The local doctor charges you in cash
because it’s a private clinic. You can reclaim these costs from your health insurance.
As you can see on the map, there are two Spars on the map, but it quite expensive to shop there. Make sure to bring the most practical things like toothpaste, oliveoil, tampons and condoms,
so you won’t have to buy it in Risoul.

Departure
You are packed and ready to go. The information about departure will be announced by e-mail
a few days before departure. Make sure you are present at the place of departure a half an hour
before departure. The classification can not be changed! This has to do with your insurance,
not to tease you. We try our hardest to place you in the same bus as your friends, but we can
guarantee nothing.
Drinks in the bus
We don’t travel by cruise ship, but despite the absence of a cocktailbar, most of the busses are
equipped with a large stock of chilled beer, soda, coffee and tea. However, this depends on the
bus company. We can tell by experience that you can buy these drinks at reasonable price. You
are not allowed to bring your own drinks. If you do so anyway, this is at your own risk.
Depending on the bus (driver) we stop to refuel mid-journey and to ensure that everyone is able
to drink and eat something. The bus will tank 1000 liter of diesel and most students attempt to
approach the same amount in alcohol and cigarettes. The driver and not all of the other passengers won’t be pleased about this. Therefore, despite the temptation, try not to. A hangover on
your first day isn’t recommendable, nor is throwing-up in a crowded bus.
Luggage depot
Upon arrival, please stall your luggage in the appointed luggage depot. The deposit consists of
a number of shipping containers. Remember your number well, because this the number with
which you will find your luggage again at the end of the afternoon. There is a number of important rules concerning the depot, because we will stall our luggage with a big group of students
of StuWi.
ÀÀ
ÀÀ
ÀÀ
ÀÀ
On arrival, put the clothes and needed equipment for that day in your carry-on.
It’s not possible to change in the depot. So please change in the bus or on the street.
Your luggage is stored in one of the containers, remember the corresponding number!
Hand your luggage to an employee of Sportura or Studentenwintersport, they will help you
to put your luggage on the right spot.
ÀÀ The luggage room will remain closed until 17:00 pm (subjected)
ÀÀ The rule of the depot is as following: ‘Point of no return’, it simply means that you cannot
reach your luggage after you’ve stored it.
ÀÀ Store your luggage at your own risk. StuWi and Sportura are not liable for any loss or damage to your luggage.
18
Arrival in Risoul
Depending on the trip we will arrive in Risoul at any given time Saturday morning, where you
will receive your personal welcome letter and lift pass. After arrival everybody can drop his/
her luggage in the luggage depot, you have to follow the directions of the organization for this.
Note: in the luggage depot you can NOT change clothes, you have to do this beforehand (in the
bus or outside).
Given the large number of participants, cueing is unfortunately inevitable at the luggage depot
or at the issue of keys, materials and meal packages. So keep in mind that it’s probably not possible to go up the slopes Saturday afternoon, then it can only get better.
From 13:00h. onwards your lift pass is valid. Or you may enjoy yourselves in the surrounding
area or in “La Grotte du Yeti.” The luggage depot closes up until 17:00h. and from 18:00h. keys
and meal packages can be picked up. In your welcome letter you can find more information
about the location and time for getting your rented ski or board material.
To celebrate the arrival, we begin at 21:00h. with the official opening ceremony of the
Student Winter Sports 2010 in “La Grotte du Yeti”! A great time for everyone to get to

Slope rules
Snowsports cause a lot of accidents every year. Especially when you’re inexperienced. Therefore
it’s important to know the rules on the slopes. Pay good attention to the following rules which
were defined by the International Ski Federation. Prevent yourself from becoming a danger to
yourself and others!

NSskiK & ONSsnowK
A challenge for everybody!
The NSskiK is the official Student Skiing Championship acknowledged by the Dutch Students
Sports Association. This great championship will be held for the 7th time this year during this
year’s edition of StuWi in Risoul. We haven’t forgotten about the snowboarders; for them we’re
organising the Unofficial Dutch Student snowboarding Championship (ONSsnowK), which includes the same disciplines as the NsskiK.
Would you like to participate in the NsskiK or ONSsnowK in Risoul? That’s possible! You can still
sign up until departure by sending an e-mail to nsskik@studentenwintersport.nl, and during the
StuWi you can still sign up at the info-hour.
Make sure you have signed up before 18:00 on monday, because that’s the final deadline.
The championships
On Wednesday there’ll be 4 different disciplines in which you’ll be
able to participate:
Freestyle
In a freestyle contest the goal is to make the most aesthetically
pleasing and difficult jumps possible in the Funpark. Show your
coolest jumps, make a pose, a grab, flip or any other trick and
become the champion! The perfect contest for the real artist
in the snow!
Big Air
The big air contest is held on a huge ramp. In this discipline your jump will be judged by the
professionals from Ripstar. This is the discipline for the real daredevil! With a big audience at the
end of the afternoon this is going to be one big party.
Integrant Small & Giant Slalom
The Integrand Slalom is for both the beginning and the advanced skier or boarder. Like the name
implies the name of the game is to make the fastest run by making the best turns. For the real
go-getters! After a week of lessons you’ll be able to descend plenty of slopes with ease and the
Integrand Small Slalom is THE spot to show off your skills! The more advanced skiers or boarders
(at least 3 weeks experience) will battle for the best time in the Integrand Giant Slalom.
26
Cost
Participation costs are € 7,50 per element, but if you decide to participate in every element you
get a discount: you will pay € 20,- instead of €22,50! At many sportcouncils you can (partially)
reclaim this money, isn’t that great?
Insurance
It’s of great importance to have a good insurance while you’re skiing or boarding, but especially
when you decide to participate to the NSskiK*. Therefore check, before you leave, your insurance and check if ski-competitions are also included, because often this is not. If your insurance
includes ski-competitions, take a proof of this, so we can check it. Should your insurance not
cover the competitions, you have the possibility to get a good insurance through Sudentenwintersport, this way you will never participate in the competitions without a proper insurance.
Participation in the NSskiK* is totally at your own risk and the organisation is in no way responsible for any possible damage and/or injuries. We all hope to see you at the NSskiK 2010 in
Risoul!
*goes the same for ONSsnowK

Organize StuWi 2011
?
We are searching for heroes to organize Studentenwintersport 2011. Are you a student HBO or
WO? Are you interested in organizing the biggest wintersport vacation of The Netherlands and
are you prepared to dedicate a yearlong 1 á 2 days a week to Studentenwintersport?
The committee of the Foundation of Studentwintersport takes care of the general coordination
of the volunteers (all of them students) and keeps contact with all partners and institutions with
whom the foundation co-operates. The committee takes care of the continuity of the foundation. The committee exists of a chairman, a secretary and a treasurer.
As a member of the committee you receive a financial compensation and a full compensation of
your organisational costs (including 3 weeks in the French Alps!).
We are looking for students with organizational and/or committee experience. Affinity with ICT
and knowing the French language are also good points. Your study-background is not of importance; motivation and enthusiasm are!
The committee 2011 will start in April 2010. In the beginning of March 2010 the candidates will
meet with the committee of 2010. The first weeks of you taking office, the old committee will
guide you intensively. Until March 1 you can (e-)mail your letter of application and Curriculum
Vitae to Chris Habraken, voorzitter@studentenwintersport.nl. Of course you can show your
interest during the StuWi-info hour.
28
Contact
You can reach the organization in France by using the Dutch cell phone numbers as they are given in this booklet. Beside this, you can of course also approach somebody from the organization (they can be recognized by the white and green coats) or contact the organisation during
the daily info-hour from 17.00 until 18.00h at the Yeti. From 17.00 until 18.00h. you can also
see Ripstar for reparations of your snowboard material.
Emergency numbers will be noted in the Daily Snowtime. Should an emergency happen at the
ski trail or outside, use those numbers to contact the emergency services.
Make sure you put these numbers in your cell phone and take care that your phone is charged;
you never know when you need it! Should you have no reception, shut down your phone and
try calling before you dial your PIN-code: then you have more chance at a good reception.
