30 years experience at the highest levels of race engine design and development.
Set up by John Judd and Sir Jack Brabham back in 1971, the company has grown from a small engineering firm to a
company of worldwide repute. John Judd continues to be heavily involved in all of the company’s activities with every
engine produced by the company being closely influenced by his leadership.

Today, Engine Developments Ltd is leading the way in engine technology taking second place overall in the recent Le
Mans 24 hour race – one of the world’s toughest races ever. A JUDD engine also powered the winner of the LMP2 class
and took the fastest lap in the race.
Engine Developments’ purpose built 18,000 sq ft facility is modern and well equipped – with the latest in technology
and facilities – offering cutting edge advances with complete customer confidentiality.

The exciting and advanced world of Formula One racing is where it all began for Engine Developments Limited. From
1988 to 1997 we designed and manufactured all engines in house for some of the racing elite: Williams; Lotus;
Brabham; Tyrrell and Arrows.
A five year association with Yamaha gave Engine
FORMULA 1
Developments the primary responsibility for the
design, manufacturing and rebuild programme on
the Yamaha F1 engines used successfully by the Tyrrell
and Arrows teams.
This partnership culminated in the design of a new engine: the JV was the lightest in F1 at the time. The first engine
weighing less than 100kg, its radical design was at the forefront of engine development.

Engine Developments’ work in Sportscar racing began in 1992 with the Mazda programme – and a creditable
4th place for the team using our developed F1 engine. A great result for our first attempt.
Our reputation and standing in the racecar market has grown such that Judd engines powered 1 in 5 cars in the field
in 2004 and 2005.
Our success has been sustained internationally from a
win at the 24hrs of Daytona in the USA in 2002 to
SPORTSCAR
the FIA World Sportscar Championships in 2003 and
right up to date with a podium placing of 2nd
overall at Le Mans in 2005 with the GV5 powering
the Pescarolo Sport team.
With such sound results it is not surprising that the GV4 and GV5 V10 engines are now established as the best
customer engines available for the Le Mans LMP1 category.

Judd engines continue to be the name demanded by teams who know what it takes to be a winner.
Our engines powered to a win in the LMP2 class at Le Mans in both 2004 and 2005 with the XV V8 engine crowned
class leader in LMP2 – driving the RML team to victory.

Touring Car racing has been another successful area for Judd
engines – with cars powered by unquestionably the best engine in its class. Approached by Nissan to take over their engine design and development programme, we designed a completely new engine – powering Nissan to the finish as winners
of the Manufacturers and Drivers Championship in 1998.
ENGINE DEVELOPMENT
In 2003 Engine Developments began work on a 2 litre version of the MG Rover K series engine. Many people thought
it impossible to successfully increase the capacity of the engine to this size. Once again Judd engines led the way in
engine development.
Success continued in 2004 when the 2 litre K series won the BTCC Independents title with West Surrey Racing, taking
4 race wins in its first season of competition. The ideal engine for low cost competition use, the K Series is small and
lightweight – making it perfectly suited for many different applications.
Working in partnership with our customers is an important part of the business practice of Engine Developments.
We use our technical expertise and specialist knowledge to develop other engines as well as our own. We are working
in conjunction with Ascari Cars on their BMW V8 engine for the Spanish GT Championship. The engine is run in Ascari’s
own car, the KZ1GT, a race version of their road going super car.
