‘The Irish Thoroughbred Marketing
Supporting Greatwood Charity Golf Day’
Henderson’s Seven Barrows
vs
King’s Barbury Boys
The Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Supporting Greatwood Charity Golf Day was played on the Red
Course at Frilford Heath Golf Course in Oxfordshire on Monday 11th May, attended by numerous
well known faces of the racing fraternity including retired Jockey John Williams and owner John
Hales as well as Irish visitors Aidan & Caren Walsh and Charles McCreevy.
The event is now in its fifth year and is going from strength to strength thanks to Greatwood’s
Patrons and racehorse owners, Russell and Lesley Field, who ably pilot the event to success each
year. Fortunately, the weather stayed fine and the sun shone brightly upon the gallant golfers,
who included Channel 4 Racing presenter, Mick Fitzgerald; the legendary John Francome; two
times Grand National winning jockey, Carl Llewellyn; National Hunt trainer, Warren Greatrex;
Founder of Rewards4Racing.com, Josh Apiafi; Barbury Castle Estate and racehorse owner Nigel
Bunter; Alex Smith from Highclere Thoroughbred Racing; and Racing UK’s Alex Steedman to name
but a few - all of whom generously played to raise money for Greatwood to the tune of £10,000.
After another closely fought contest and for the second year running, King’s Barbury Boys were
victorious over Henderson’s Seven Barrows.

the event for the second year running; as well as the team captains Nicky Henderson and Alan
King; not forgetting Russell and Lesley Field for all their tireless work in organising the event for the
last five years. The tees were also sponsored by generous racehorse owners: Anabel K Murphy
Racing, Whitson Bloodstock, Tim Syder, Peter Andrews, Terry Warner, Mrs Lesley Field, Philip &
Sally Noot, Jules Sigler, Mrs Skan, Mrs Caren Walsh, David Sumpter, Nigel Bunter, David Sewell,
David Bellamy, Alan King, McNeill Family & Seven Barrows.
