SHARE FOUNDATION WITH THE HANDICAPPED P.O. Box 400 ROLLING PRAIRIE, INDIANA 46371-0400 GOOD NEWS NEWSLETTER FOR THE OTHER ABLED SEPTEMBER 2015 219-778-2585 share@sharefoundation.org VOLUME 41 #11 FROM THE DESK OF FATHER BLANEY... The Leprechaun Hunt is over! It was truly a wonderful event! It seemed that everyone had a joy filled, exhilarating time. I especially remember seeing the many people dancing under the big tent. There were several fathers dancing with their daughters who were about 6 years old. Both were really into the dancing, obviously proud to be together. The fathers knew how precious their daughters were and their daughters would certainly cherish their lasting memories of the day. The Leprechaun Hunt is truly a family fun day!! The food was again fantastic and well worth the lines which really moved fast. The bands and the magician were truly entertaining. And the weather was conducive to hunting – thanks to God’s kindness. This year there were eleven Leprechauns that were not found. That is the most ever not found! Everyone walked around with a smile on their face. It was truly a family fun day and it was the biggest Leprechaun Hunt ever. Thanks for coming! Many thanks for all of the volunteers!! God bless you! WEBSITE Have you seen our new website? It’s sharp and sleek and is now compatible for people using mobile devices thanks to Scott Wills and his talented staff at Catalyst Marketing. Check it out: We also now have a Facebook page at www.sharefoundation.org http:www.facebook.com/SharingMeadows Please like us on Facebook and check out what is happening at Sharing Meadows. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS Share Foundation gratefully acknowledges the following donation received from the Knights of Columbus from their Tootsie Roll Drive: $200 from Msgr. Joseph Ryder Council #4047 of Merrillville, IN 46410 Funds from the Knights of Columbus have supported our summer camp/values retreat for other abled adults for over thirty years. God bless the Knights for their faithful dedication to our mission! GOOD NEWS • PAGE 2 • THOUGHTS FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR VOL. 41 #11 By Kathleen Kelly Each year the Leprechaun Hunt just gets better and better and this year was certainly no exception! The weather was beautiful, the food was outstanding, the crowd was bigger and the people were happier. It was everything we had hoped for and more! When Father Blaney and I started planning the first Leprechaun Hunt twenty plus years ago, we knew we wanted it to be a day for families so we tried to find activities that families could enjoy together. Looking around at this year’s celebration, I’d say we’ve been successful. The families enjoyed the music, the hayrides, the clowns, the magician’s performances and all of the food and treats that were available. It was truly a day for families and that’s exactly what we wanted. Wayne Millard donates his prize money back to Father Blaney There were so many people having a good time and so many smiles and hugs all day. I enjoyed seeing people that I hadn’t seen in a while and one particular young man warmed my heart and gave me a memory that I will keep in my heart forever. When Father Blaney was awarding the pots of gold to the lucky leprechaun hunters, several generous people donated their prize money back to Share Foundation. Then it was time for one other abled young man, who is about 10 years old to come up to collect his pot of gold. He came up with his father, proudly took his green hat that states “I Found A Leprechaun” put it on (it came to just over his eyebrows,) gave us a big grin and posed for a picture with Father Blaney. He started to walk off, stopped, said something to his father and then his Dad said, “he wants to donate his money back to Sharing Meadows.” I had the microphone in my hand and announced that he wanted to donate his money back and when he came back to give the check to Father Blaney the crowd in the tent went wild with applause. I said, “what a special young man. God bless you.” To which the young man replied, “No, God bless all of you at Sharing Meadows!” I must admit, his unselfish act and unconditional love brought a tear to my eye and hope to my heart. We can all take a lesson from him and put others needs ahead of our own. I can only hope that some day we can be blessed to have that young man call Sharing Meadows home. SHARE OUR DREAMS You are invited to share our dream of a safe, loving, productive life for our other abled friends – a dream that has come true in the community of Sharing Meadows – by joining us for the 21st annual Share Our Dreams Gala Dinner Dance and Silent Auction. The event takes place on Friday, November 6 at the Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Munster and will feature an evening of fine dining, music by the Tom Milo’s Big Band and an opportunity to gather with other people who have witness the dream of Sharing Meadows come true. Tables seat ten so gather your family members, friends and business colleagues for this elegant evening. We will have many lovely items for bidding in the silent and live auction and if you have an item to donate for the auction, please call the office at 219-7782585 and we will arrange to pick it up. Our committee members will be happy to welcome you to this dreamy evening! Hidden Winner: Gail Bonfield, Michigan City, IN 46360 LOOK WHO FOUND A LEPRECHAUN Father Blaney must be getting better at hiding the leprechauns because even though we had some serious hunters searching all over the grounds of Sharing Meadows, 11 of the clever creatures managed to stay hidden! The successful hunters were: $50 Pot of Gold Brent Raymond John Mullen Joyce Malecki Wayne Millard Alexis Surma Chris Lanham Hayden Huber Kaitlyn Brunder Richard Sims Andrew Chalik $100 Pot of Gold Chad Covey Thomas Martinez Emily Wakeman Bob Burton Scott Hicks Brian Blake $200 Pot of Gold Ryan Tuszynski Nate Grimmer Eric Smoke Kim Laughlin Rocky Troxell $500 Pot of Gold Brook Middlebrook Of the 22 people who found leprechauns, 5 of them donated their prize money back to Share Foundation! God bless them! Thanks to everyone who took part in the Leprechaun Hunt! We look forward to having your join us again next year!
