COMMODORE’S
REPORT
CHRIS COLTHURST
Hello My Fellow Members,
I am very happy to see the East Harbour filling up. Congrats to Tom
Weber for being the first boat in our new facilities. The next outdoor project
is to rebuild Shanty Town, which will include new gas Bar-B-Ques and an
expanded roof covering that will match Green Acres. These facilities are for
the use of all Members and our transient boaters. Please be sure to welcome
all who use them so we can maintain our image as “The Friendliest Club on
the Great Lakes”.
I would like to thank Vice Commodore Dan Caster and his committee for
putting on a fantastic Red Neck Party! The boys in the band were the original
thang! LOL. It was awesome to see the participation by the Members and
staff in getting their red neck on! I would be remiss in not mentioning Fleet
Director Tom Weber’s land cruise to Monroe, Swan and Edison. Unfortunately
we were not able to attend but from all accounts it was a lot of fun! Check
the log to see more great entertainment that Entertainment Director Wayne
Perkin, has planned for this month. Thanks guys for giving of your time and
knowledge to keep our Members amused!
In an effort to maintain the timely and efficient service that is expected
by the Members, it is imperative that you make reservations for dinner. This
enables the staff and chef to give you the best dining experience. See the
reservation options elsewhere in the log.
I have been talking up the Club to all the Commodores at the Balls and
have heard a lot of interest in their coming for dinner and checking out our
Club. It is truly a pleasure to be able to “brag” about our new Harbour and
the many changes that have occurred over the last two years. Thanks to the
Board and Management for being focused on making improvements to the
Club and the service.
Mary and I are anxious to get Teakquila in the Harbour and also relaxing
around the pool with old friends and new guests and Members. It is your Club
so come out and enjoy!
As always I look forward to WYC’ing you at the Club.
Respectfully submitted,
Commodore Chris H. Colthurst

DAN CASTER
April was such a great month at the Club, so many things positive
happening!
The harbour is complete, the concrete is complete and the new Shanty
Town has been started. The asphalt will be completed in the first week
of May. And our goal is to have Shanty town complete by the May 24
weekend. Our new harbour is absolutely outstanding and we should all
be proud of our Club.
Speaking of being proud of our Club, Cindy and I attended the land fleet
cruise and we visited 3 of our fellow yacht clubs in Michigan. The Clubs
welcomed us with open arms and free drinks, we had a great time but I
have to say when we returned to our own Club we realized how fortunate
we are to have such an extraordinary place. Thank you to Tom Weber for
organizing such a great day!
Our dining room is currently undergoing some updates. Thank you for
your patience during this. Please stop in and have a look, it's pretty
impressive.
We are constantly looking for ways to improve the Club and the
dining experience that we all look for. We are working on a number of
initiatives and the one thing we need from all Members is to please make
reservations. Laura has implemented a number of new ideas, and the
food and service is improving to new levels. Now it's our turn to help
her! Please take 5 minutes and make a reservation. The only way we
can optimize the service is if we have an idea of how many Members to
expect. When we have 10 reservations and 120 people come for dinner it
is tough to provide the service you expect. We need your help, please call
and make a reservation.
Our membership numbers are steady and our Membership drive is on.
If you know someone who is interested, please introduce them to Lance
Tavener our Membership Director, there has never been a better time to
join!
For those that attended the Red Neck Party, it's not my fault!!! For those
that missed it. You missed one crazy party. This year the party was a huge
4
success with an over the top band and some of the funniest outfits ever
worn in the Windsor Yacht Club. We still had a packed house at 1am and
everyone let their hair down for a great time. Thank you to our Chef for
the red neck meal, it was great! Thank you to the staff for the outstanding
service and for staying until 4 am to clean the Club. Laura had a shower
booked for 60 people at 11am the next morning and the Club was spotless
and the staff pulled it off. Thank you to everyone involved for making this
party such a success.
The Club boutique has some of the nicest clothing and merchandise
we have had in years. You can pick your style, your size your colour and
where you want our crest. It does not get any more accommodating than
this. Leslie Labute has done an outstanding job recreating the boutique.
Stop by and see Leslie for your custom clothing and wear it with pride.
Thank you to Leslie for all her hard work.
Cindy, Cierra, Jenna and myself are looking forward to a great boating
season and seeing everyone at the Club.

P/C ROBERT TROUP
Wow already May, the management of the Club and the Chef have been
busy over the winter and now we are preparing for the summer months.
Our sales are still treading ahead of last year by about 14 percent and the
Club F&B has stayed in the black every month so far this year.
If you have not been to the Club for a while, you will find that we have
painted all of the dining rooms and common areas in the front of the Club
to match the bar area that was done last year. Also the mirrors have been
removed and a feature wood wall installed in its place. We have reworked
the computer systems in the dining areas and were able to remove the
dining room cabinet that has seen better days.
Everyone in the office and kitchen have been busy over the last few
months getting ready for the extended hours starting May 2, which will
see a new summer menu introduced, the BBQ on Tuesdays and Sunday
Breakfast starting up on May 22nd . You will notice that Laura has been
busy with the hiring of the summer staff and there are lots of new faces
around in our summer uniforms.
It is going to be a busy and exciting summer around the Club with new
Harbour, staff and menu. Don’t be disappointed, please make a reservation
at reservations@windsoryachtclub.com.
See you around the Club,

TOM WEBER
We had an awesome day on our Bus land cruise with 75 Members and
guests in attendance. It’s always nice to enter Clubs like Monroe Boat
Club and Swan Boat Club and have the entire Board of Directors lined
up at the door to greet us – with a complimentary drink ticket in hand
to boot. These are smaller Clubs but definitely overflowing with charm
and a welcoming atmosphere. Our trip also made a stop at Edison Boat
Club for dinner followed by a final round of drinks at our very own WYC
bar. Thank You to all who climbed on the two buses for a great day.
The land cruises are now done for the year and now we head out onto the
water. “Tomfoolery” was launched on April 1 – she was not impressed
with the snow that graced her decks in the days that followed, but she’s
very happy now in her brand new berth in the new East Harbour.

REPORT
GEORGE MCMAHON
Welcome back Race Fans to the "Best Race Series on Lake St. Clair".
Mark your calendars and join us Wednesday nights for our Spring Series
-boats should be passing by our Club Patio around 8PM- starting May
18th until June 29th. The big show, our "Canadian Club Overnight Race"
will be held Friday, June 17th. Get your seats early on the Club Patio for
that event -commencing at approximately 5PM - as the boats sail past
for our Commodore review.
This year we welcome back our Race Committee: on the RC Boat, Mark
Setter, Johann Loscher; Sounder, Rick Janisse; Signaller, Ken Laubert;
Spotter/recorder, William McMahon; and trying to stay out of everyone
else's way as Race Officer, yours truly. On the finish line, Sounder, Terry
Henry; Timer, Joanne Loscher; Spotter, Colleen Higgins; and Recorder,
Stephanie McMahon. The show couldn’t proceed without my two liaison
officers, Alan Johnson, Jim McCloskey and Race Committee Boat
skippers, Tom Weber "Tomfoolery" and Dave Aldous "Split Decision".
Before the race season started I would like to express my appreciation
to Rosalie Hebert for her assistance on our web page. For those sailors
interested in racing this year, you can check out our Race Page on www.
windsoryachtclub.com . There you will find the "Notice of Race" and
"Sailing Instructions" for both the Wednesday Night Race Series and
the Canadian Club Race. Applications can be forwarded via email to
wycrace@hotmail.com and payment can be made via PAYPAL. Club
Members will have an automatic deduction from their account. An easy
process compared to those efforts in the past. Finally, our Scorers will
offer you the opportunity to search Race Results on our website within
an hour of the last boat crossing the finish line.
And finally, a Special thanks to Past Commodore Ken Crooks for taking
the time and effort to upgrade our wall trophies that are prominently
displayed at our Club. Ken remounted them and provided more space
on the trophies for future winners. Not an easy job but Ken manages to
pull it off!
So enjoy the show as we prepare for 40 sailboats to join us at "The
Friendliest Club on the Great Lakes"

In order to provide uniformity,
& save possible embarrassment
due to any misunderstanding,
the following are guidelines for
Members and visiting yachtsmen who wish to participate in
the Blessing of the Fleet.
All boats should be clean and “dressed” for the day in their “Sunday Best”.
Suitable yachting attire should be worn: no abbreviated clothing or bathing
suits. If you wish to dress up the crew and passengers, etc. - do so and with
style, it’s a fun day as well as a solemn occasion.
Captains and Crews are invited to join Members and guests in the
Club/on the grounds so they can participate as the Fleet Chaplain
conducts the Blessing Ceremonies. At the conclusion of the ceremonies,
personnel will move to their boats and then leave the harbour to
form up for the procession. DOCK STAFF WILL BE AVAILABLE
TO ASSIST IN AN ORDERLY DEPARTURE. PLEASE EXERCISE THE
UTMOST CAUTION IN LEAVING THE HARBOUR AS MANY WILL
BE DEPARTING AT ONCE.

Non-boating Members and guests wishing to watch and participate in the
Sail Past Ceremony should gather on the patio.
Captains and Crews should rendezvous in the vicinity of R”DP2”.
All boats should monitor Channel 68.
The WYC Fleet Captain will form a procession, starting near R”DP2”.
The procession will move up stream, in single file headed by the Fleet
Captain, followed by the Police agencies in attendance, boats of the
Flag Officers and then Members of the Windsor Yacht Club. Following
the procession will be the craft of other Clubs/squadrons/guests in their
particular groups.
Flag etiquette is to be observed: National Flags, Club Burgees to be
flown as applicable. Torn, tattered or faded flags/burgees are not to be
displayed.
While passing the Reviewing Base, passengers should stand, if safe and
possible, with headdress removed, facing the Reviewing Party to return the
compliment being extended to them.
To ensure safe boat handling, the Captain need not remove headdress
or return the salute. A quick “eyes-right” will suffice.
Refreshments should be out of sight while passing the Reviewing Stand.
The National Flag/Ensign that is flown should be dipped, then held while
passing the saluting base. If unable to dip your colours simply stop the
flag from flying momentarily with your hand.
Immediately after passing the “Reviewing Stand”, Captains will make a left
wheel (port turn) and proceed to the centre of the channel. This maneuver
will keep the entrances to Riverside and the City Marina CLEAR. The
procession will disperse at this point.
At the conclusion of the Sail Past, the Reviewing Party will move to the
WYC harbour to provide the Blessing to vessels remaining at the wells.
CONTINGENCY PLAN
In the event of inclement weather:
Ceremony continues as planned (indoors)
There will not be a sail past.
Following ceremony, Captains and crew man their boats in the harbour
The Reviewing Party will proceed to conduct a Blessing for each vessel in
the harbour.
