MULTIMEDIA Business School The Blackboard Control Panel Each module has a Control Panel link under the left navigation panel. The Control Panel allows you to make changes to your site. Here you can upload documents, add announcements, create discussions, manage your users and customise the look and feel of your module. The Control Panel is split into different sections. Module and instructor details The Control Panel Content Areas The Content Areas section is where you will add your teaching materials, information about the course, any assignments and external web links that are relevant to the course. You can upload a wide range of materials into Tip: To find out more about adding content to Blackboard see the HUBS Multimedia advice sheet “How to upload a document” Course Tools Course Tools allow you to manage how you deliver your teaching, these include: 012.0 • Announcements – post notices and information to your students. They will then see this information when they login to Blackboard. • Course Calendar – create a calendar for your students with submission dates, exam dates etc. • Staff Information – provide a list of staff teaching on the course, with contact details, basic information and pictures. You can also link to staff profiles on the HUBS website. • Discussion Board – create and administer discussion lists/forums for your students. Tip: To find out more about creating a staff profile see the HUBS Multimedia advice sheet “Your staff profile on the HUBS website” • Send Email – send emails to all students, selected students, groups or instructors on the course. • Digital Dropbox – a tool allowing electronic submission and exchange of documents. continues over the page... http://www2.hud.ac.uk/uhbs/about/student_info/ MULTIMEDIA Business School Course Options Course Options allow you to edit the settings of some of the Blackboard tools and change the look and feel of your course. • Manage Course Menu – add or remove content areas within the module with any alterations being reflected in the navigation. You can also rename the content areas. • Manage Tools – enable or disable the Blackboard tools, giving you control of which aspects of Blackboard your students can access. • Settings – customise the look of the module by uploading a course banner and changing the colour and style of the menu buttons. By using Course Availability you can effectively hide the module from students until you want them to access it. User Management The options in this section allow you to add or remove students and staff from the module, change the status of users and also set up and maintain groups. Please note that students are added to modules automatically through ASIS however there maybe occasions where you need to add new users or modify the status or details of existing users. Assessment The Assessment section contains options for the creation and editing of tests and surveys and the monitoring of statistics about course usage. • Test Manager – create and modify test questions from a range of question types accessible through a drop down menu. • Survey Manager – works in the same way as the Test Manager • Pool Manager – here test questions and surveys can be combined into “Pools” then exported to other modules to be reused via the “Import” option in the Pool Manager • Course Statistics – allows you to review and monitor the usage of the module on a per user/ per section basis for any dates you choose. This data can be printed out or exported in .csv format for use in Excel.
