The Modular Stackable Switching System
Building a powerful network
has never been simpler.
Highlights
The Cajun P330 Stackable Switching
System provides modular
functionality and port density, carrierlevel reliability and building-block
simplicity at a stackable switch price
for the first time.
Stack Features
The modularity and power give you
the basis for building a network from
the closet to the backbone.
One of the key considerations of
implementing any new technology is
TCO – Total Cost of Ownership. In
other words, how much it costs to
buy and maintain. Lucent designed
the Cajun P330 for low TCO. To add
more ports and multilayer capability –
simply plug in and carry on.
The modular features and ease of
expansion, in combination with
RealNet™ Rules policy management
and full standards compliance, make
the Cajun P330 part of the
infrastructure for your converged
network. Now you can combine your
voice and data networks without
headaches, knowing that the Cajun
P330 was designed for convergence
from the start.

Modular Functionality
10/100 Mbps Ethernet
The Cajun P330 Stackable Switching
System provides unique modular
functionality in stackable form and at
a workgroup stack price.

Port Density
The Cajun P330 is designed to
support up to 640 10/100Base-Tx,
140 100Base-FX or 40 1000Base-X
ports in a single stack. This port
density outclasses other stacking
systems and provides the growth
potential and versatility you need.
Multilayer Switching
By simply adding a fully-featured
Cajun P330R stackable multilayer
switch to a stack, you can provide
your network with powerful and
straightforward Layer 3 and Layer 4
switching for voice, video and data.
Multitechnology
The Cajun P330 Switching System
allows you to implement
10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet and
ATM access in the same stack so you
can use existing backbone
infrastructures. Moreover, since the
Cajun P330 is a true stack solution,
you can use existing uplinks in the
stack to the backbone when you add
switches to the stack.
No Single Point of Failure
Lucent has brought modular switch
resilience to stackable switches. The
Cajun P330 Stackable Switching
System offers redundancy at stack,
LAG and port levels to ensure
uninterrupted data flow.
The Cajun P330 Backup Power
Supply (BUPS) enures an equally
uninterrupted power supply to the
stack. Finally, there are two fans to
ensure that overheating will not
constitute a single point of failure.

Simplicity
Convergence
Even the best technology can become
frustrating and under-deployed if it is
difficult to use. Lucent has made the
Cajun P330 easy to deploy. Adding
more ports, multilayer switching and
uplinks is as simple as stack and go.
One of the most exciting directions
for networks is convergence – the use
of a single network for voice, video
and data services. In order to
implement convergence, your
network infrastructure should
provide the necessary QoS
(Quality of Service)
SAFER™ (Switch
Architecture for
Extreme Resiliency)
technology, 100%
reliability and ease
of management.
The Cajun P330 stackable
switches are selfconfiguring: there are
no DIP switches or
jumpers.
Implementing
multilayer
switching is just
as easy. Lucent
EZ2route™
technology makes
zero-configuration
routing a reality – no
more obscure
configuration parameters.
The Cajun P330 Switching System
extends from the closet to the
backbone. Multilayer, multitechnology switching along with
scalability and flexibility mean that
the P330 fits in anywhere on the
network.
Policy
Management
RealNet Rules policy
management gives
you the power to
control and implement
smart voice and data transfer over
your network by intelligent QoS
capabilities and security.
QoS
One of the most important
characteristics for a converged
network is QoS. Therefore, Lucent
designed the Cajun P330 to provide
better than carrier-level QoS from the
start.
RealNet Rules policy management,
multiple levels of priorities and IEEE
802.1p priority tagging ensure that
QoS is enforced by the Cajun P330R.
This means that data and voice
receive the necessary level of service.
Security*
No less important a factor is security –
Layer 2 and Layer 3 Access Security
ensure that sensitive data is kept from
prying eyes.
SAFER - 100% Reliability
Lucent SAFER technology ensures the
100% network availability needed for
converged services.
Carrier-Class Switch
In order to ensure easy integration of
the Cajun P330 Switching System in
existing telephony infrastructure,
Lucent has developed 48 VDC
versions of the basic units and BUPS.
In addition the Cajun P330 is
designed to meet NEBS standards.
These specially developed units
feature the same
SAFER technology as
other members of the
Cajun P330 system.
The Octaplane
Switching Fabric
Each Cajun P330 switch
has an expansion slot at
the rear for the 8 Gbps
Octaplane™ stacking
fabric.
The use of a separate
expansion slot for the
Octaplane means that
all the front panel ports
are available for
network connections.
The SAFER
Stackable Switch
With the increasingly
important role of
networks in today’s
businesses, the need for resilience is
spreading from the network backbone
to the distribution and closet
switches.
can therefore adapt the P330 to your
requirements on the fly and with a
down-time which is second to none.
Recognizing this need, Lucent has
added its unique SAFER™ technology
features to the Cajun P330 stackable
switching system. SAFER technology
ensures that your network is up all
the time.
Each Cajun P330 basic unit comes
with a Backup Power Supply (BUPS)
connector. If the internal power
supply should fail, the Cajun P330
BUPS (available separately), will
automatically supply power to the
switch for uninterrupted operation.
The Cajun P330 Stackable Switching
System incorporates a range of
redundancy, resilience and hot
swapping features to keep the stack
operating smoothly.
Octaplane Stack Redundancy
In the unlikely event that a Cajun
P330 switch or Octaplane link should
fail, stack integrity is maintained. The
broken link is bypassed and data
transmission continues uninterrupted.
The single management IP address for
the stack is also preserved for
uninterrupted management and
monitoring.
LAG and Port
Redundancy
Not only do LAGs
provide intrinsic loadsharing for resiliency
and load balancing for
performance, but you
can also define one
LAG to be redundant
to any other LAG in
the stack for the
ultimate in resiliency.
The same level of
redundancy can also
be implemented at
the port level.
Hot-Swappable
You can remove or
replace any unit
within the stack
without disrupting
operation or
performing stack-level
reconfiguration. You
Backup Power Supply
Fans
The Cajun P330 base unit fans have
integrated sensors which provide
advance warnings of fan failure via
management .
Network Management Agent
(NMA) Redundancy
Each of the integral NMAs in the
stack can serve as the stack NMA
while other NMAs act as redundant
agents in “hot” standby. If the “live”
NMA fails then a backup will be
activated instantaneously.
Virtual Sideband Management
In order to provide management with
physical protection from network
problems and hackers, the Cajun
P330 allows you to manage it using a
virtual sideband network. Any port
can be assigned as a sideband port to
the NMA.
Standards Compliance
The Cajun P330 Stackable Switching
System is fully IEEE standardscompatible for VLAN, priority,
Spanning Tree, Flow Control and
Gigabit Ethernet for trouble-free
interoperability with other standardscompliant equipment.
Cajun P330 Features
VLANs
The Cajun P330 VLANs are fully IEEE
802.1Q compliant and can handle up
to 3k tagged VLANs.
*future
Priority
The Cajun P330 supports eight levels
of priority tags through two priority
queues and supports IEEE 802.1p
tagging.
LAG – Link Aggregation Group
LAG provides increased bandwidth
and redundancy for critical highbandwidth applications such as interstack links and connections to servers.
You can aggregate the bandwidth of
up to eight 10/100Base-Tx ports, two
100Base-FX or 1000Base-X ports to
provide a single full duplex highspeed link of up to 4 Gbps.
Load sharing ensures that if one of
the port connections fails, the other
connections will assume the load
seamlessly.
Load balancing guarantees that the
traffic load at any level will be evenly
divided among all the LAG links.
Congestion Control
Congestion control is a key element
of maintaining network efficiency as
it prevents resource overload.
The Lucent Cajun P330 supports
congestion control on all Ethernet
ports, using the following:
●
Back Pressure in half duplex mode.
●
IEEE 802.3x Flow Control in full
duplex mode.
Auto-Negotiation
Every 10/100 port on the Cajun P330
supports Auto-Negotiation which
automatically detects and supports
the operating mode and speed of a
connected device. Auto-negotiation is
also supported on the Gigabit
Ethernet ports.
This means that you can simply
connect the Cajun P330 to Ethernet
or Fast Ethernet equipment at full or
half duplex without configuration.
Spanning Tree
The Cajun P330 supports the IEEE
802.1D standard Spanning Tree
Protocol. This protocol detects and
eliminates logical loops in the
network and automatically places
some ports on standby to form a
network with the most efficient
pathways.
Remote Access
You can operate the CLI from a
terminal or computer which is
connected to the P330 via secure
Telnet through the “Master Agent” or
through the serial interface.
IP Multicast*
The Cajun P330 will support IP
Multicast filtering with IGMP
snooping in future products. This
filtering provides more efficient
switching of IP multicast traffic e.g.,
from a video server or the Internet.
Network Management
Lucent realizes the importance of
comprehensive network management
as a key component of today’s
networks. Therefore we have
provided multiple ways of managing
the Cajun P330 to suit your needs.
Network Monitoring
SMON
The Cajun P330 supports Lucent’s
ground-breaking SMON Switched
Network Monitoring, which the IETF
has now adopted as a standard
(RFC2613). SMON provides an
unprecedented top-down monitoring
of switched network traffic at the
following levels:
Protocol Distribution
Subnet/Network Monitoring
(Subnet Statistics)
Cajun P330 Manager
Cajun P330 switches come with free
management software as standard.
This program, which uses the Lucent
CajunView™ graphical interface,
allows you to manage a Cajun P330
stack without purchasing additional
software.
CajunView
When you need extra control and
monitoring or wish to manage other
Cajun Campus equipment, then the
CajunView network management
suite is the answer. This suite
provides the ease-of-use and features
necessary for optimal network
utilization.
Web Management*
The Cajun P330 will also support
embedded Web management so you
can manage P330 stacks using a
standard browser from anywhere on
the network.
CLI
The Cajun P330 CLI (command line
interface) is consistent with other
Cajun Campus products for greater
ease of use.
User
Monitoring
(Host
Statistics)
This top-down approach gives you
rapid troubleshooting and
performance trending to keep the
network running optimally.
RMON
The Cajun P330 supports the
standard RMON groups 1, 2, 3 and 9:
●
Statistics
●
History
●
Alarms
●
Events
Port Mirroring
The Cajun P330 provides port
mirroring for additional network
monitoring functionality. You can
filter the traffic by VLAN and mirror
either incoming traffic to the source
port or both incoming and outgoing
traffic. This allows you to monitor the
network traffic you need.

Multilayer Switching*
Reliable Routing
Adding Multilayer switching to a
Cajun P330 stack is as simple as
plugging in a Cajun P330R. This
switch not only provides all the
Layer 2 benefits of the Cajun P330
switching family, but also adds
Layer 3 and Layer 4 switching for an
entire stack.
Lucent has extended SAFER
technology to the Cajun P330R in
router mode. The P330R supports
OSPF which allows a number of paths
to be defined and supports VRRP
which gives router redundancy.
The multilayer switching uses the
information within the Ethernet
packets in combination with
RealNet Rules policy management to
provide end-to-end QoS. The Cajun
P330R tags packets with QoS
according to the application and
policy of the packet. As a true
routing-capable switch, the Cajun
P330R enforces access rules on IP
packets.
The Cajun P330R has two modes of
operation: Router and EZ2route.
Routing Mode
The Cajun P330R can function as a
regular LAN IP router and it supports
the necessary routing protocols such
as RIP, OSPF, ARP, ICMP and
DHCP/BOOTP relay for plug and play
IP connectivity to DHCP clients.
EZ2route Mode
Lucent EZ2route technology employs
the power and simplicity of the Cajun
P330R system for routing.
The P330R performs Layer 3
switching functions without requiring
the administrative overhead
associated with regular routers.
P330R Layer 3 switching is based on
automatic learning in which the
switch is not a routing entity. In other
words, without all the usual router
complications. The P330R is not
known to the stations as their router,
is not configured as a router and does
not run routing protocols or perform
resource-hungry route calculations.
Policy-based Switching
Since the Cajun P330R is a multilayer
switch, it can enforce centralized
network policies using RealNet Rules
policy management.
The Cajun P330R can enforce policy
per packet or per flow according to
four criteria: the IEEE 802.1p priority
tag in the incoming packet, the DiffServ byte (TOS field) in the IP header
of the incoming packet,the packet's
source or destination IP address
matching a configured priority policy
and the packet source or destination
TCP/UDP port number being in a
predefined range.
Multilayer Network Management
and Monitoring
You can manage the the Cajun P330R
with the Router Manager. The Cajun
P330R is also manageable by the
CajunView network management
system and is fully integrated with
RealNet Rules for policy
management.
It is also possible to configure and
monitor the P330R using the CLI .
The CLI can be accessed in a number
of ways for maximum flexibility:
through secure Telnet directly to the
P330R IP address, by secure Telnet
through the “Master Agent” or
directly through the serial interface.
The P330R supports a Cajun P550like CLI for ease of use and
consistency with other members of
the Cajun Campus.
SMON II
The Cajun P330R also features
