Fifteen-yearold Donald, brilliantly played by Thomas BrodieSangster (Love Actually), possesses an extraordinary imagination and a talent for art. When he is diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, Donald retreats into a fantasy world occupied by his alter ego comic book superhero, where he fights death as a caped crusader. Shot on location in Dublin, Donald’s real and imaginary worlds are intertwined in stunning animations. Points are made about opportunities for women but always through humour and subtlety. Study guide themes include women’s rights, technology and fashion.
