The annual auction is the most important fundraising event for us. It raises vital funds which we use to deliver
practical advice and habitat work, inspiring and helping people to protect wild trout.
Our thanks go to the very generous supporters who donate lots, and to those who buy lots on the auction. Your
support is very much appreciated and we promise to use the funds wisely for the benefit of wild trout. Please

All bidding takes place on eBay, and to bid on eBay you will need to register here:

How bidding works
Bidding on eBay works similarly to leaving “commission bids” at a live auction. You place a bid for the most you are willing to pay for
a Lot and, if you are the winning bidder, you will pay the amount necessary to beat the next highest bid.
For example, if you bid £100 for a Lot and the next highest bidder bids £50, you will only have to pay £55 for the Lot, even though
you placed a bid for £100.
• Enter your maximum bid value into eBay or the postal bid form and eBay will bid on your behalf against other bidders up to that
value and let you know by email when someone has out bid you.
• Bidding can be fast and furious in the closing stages so you may want to keep an eye on your bids during the course of the final
evening. The time of when bids close for each Lot are shown on eBay.
• If you are the winning bidder, eBay will notify you by email and you will need to pay for your Lot within 7 days, preferably using a
debit card or by cheque to the WTT office as this saves us substantial transaction fees. You can also pay by credit card or PayPal.
• Once payment has cleared, you will receive an email (or letter) from the WTT confirming the Lot you have won. The email will
give you the details of the contact for fishing Lots or will confirm your address for dispatch of any physical Lots. For fishing Lots,
the donor of the Lot is also advised of your email contact details or address if no email is supplied.
How to find individual Lots on eBay
• Note that Lots will not be visible on eBay until the auction starts on 4 March.
• Click on the link on the Lot page in this catalogue and you will be taken to the Lot on the WTT website. That page will have a link
taking you direct to the Lot on eBay, where you can enter your bid.
• Alternatively search for the Lot on eBay using their search facility and enter WTTXXX where XXX is a 3 digit Lot number (e.g.
WTT001 for Lot 1, WTT033 for Lot 33, WTT212 for Lot 212)
Conditions of sale
1. The auction will be subject to the terms and conditions of eBay.co.uk.
2. The WTT has the right to refuse any bid. If the winning bid is invalid or is not paid, the next highest bid shall be the winning bid.
3. The descriptions of the Lots are based upon information provided by the donors of the Lots and have not been verified by the
WTT, and should not be relied upon as statements of definitive fact. Neither the WTT nor the relevant donor can be held responsible
for errors of description or for genuineness or authenticity of any Lot, or for any fault or defect in it.
4. If the donor of a Lot does not make available to the winning bidder the relevant fishing or shooting substantially as described, and
alternative arrangements are not made, the WTT shall refund the purchase price to the winning bidder, but shall have no liability to
him or her for any consequential costs, loss or damages, whether associated with the cancellation of travel plans or otherwise.
5. Bidders bidding by post authorise the WTT to place a bid on eBay.co.uk as agent on their behalf, and shall be bound as if they had
placed the bid personally.
6. Payment should be made by credit card or cheque payable to The Wild Trout Trust within 7 days of notice of a winning bid. If full
payment has not been received within two weeks of notification, the sale may be rescinded by the WTT without notice. The rights to
a Lot purchased shall not pass until the WTT has received payment in full.
7. All Lots in the WTT 2014 Auction must be taken during the 2014 season unless otherwise stated and are taken at one’s own risk.
8. These conditions of sale are subject to English law, and the WTT and each bidder submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English
Courts.
9. Lots in this auction have all been generously given for the benefit of the WTT. They may not be resold or awarded as prizes for
competitions.
How will we use the money raised in the WTT Auction 2014?
The Wild Trout Trust auction is our single most important annual fundraising event and your donation or purchase of a lot is a
vital element in the success of the auction.
We aim to raise in excess of £50,000 in the 2014 auction – funding which is absolutely crucial to our work for wild trout.
The Trust continues to work tirelessly for our wild trout and the fishing clubs
and community groups that enjoy their rivers and lakes. In 2012/13, we
carried out 59 advisory visits, 33 project proposals and 28 river demonstration
events, enhancing habitat on over 220km of river across the British Isles and
involving around 460 volunteers and 2400 volunteer hours. We gave talks at
a range of events, from fishing club AGMs to international conferences, to a
total audience of over 1300 people. Our Mayfly in the Classroom programme
reached over 800 school kids and we have developed a dynamic, informationrich website that is receiving 10,000 unique visits per month, spreading the
word for wild trout conservation.
Money raised in this auction gives us vital ‘no strings attached’ funding which
we will use in a number of ways:
• to give us a basic set of tools and equipment like chainsaws and
waders to deliver projects;
• to provide bursaries to groups who need kick-start funding for
their own projects;
• to keep our staff up-to-date with the science and new techniques
for habitat restoration;
• to help leverage funding from other sources such as charitable
trusts in order to fund project work.
Looking ahead, competition for funding for work like ours will be even keener, so your contribution through this auction
becomes ever more significant. Thank you for your support of WTT. We promise to use wisely the monies raised to do good
practical work for the conservation of wild trout and their habitat.

An exquisite Japanese gyotaku art work of two ayu or sweetfish by Shigao Kikuchi. Gyotaku is a traditional
technique developed in the mid 1800s to record exceptional fish. The fish is rubbed with ink and used to create an
imprint on paper which is handcoloured, creating a beautifully detailed representation. Close examination shows
the raised texture of scales and ribs are clearly imprinted onto the paper. The unusual nature of the background
and rarity of the large fish makes this an exceptionally valuable example.

A stunning sculptural relief panel of a trout rising to a mayfly, created from pewter, gold leaf and brass. The panel
measures 50cm x 50cm (19½in x 19½in) and is ready to hang. The panel was designed and made by Sam
MacDonald using traditional metal-working techniques to create this contemporary work. His work includes
private and public commissions, and a large salmon piece in the prestigious West Ranga Lodge in Iceland.

Enjoy an evening watching badgers and other woodland life with wildlife enthusiast and mad-keen angler Simon
Scott. The evening could include a trip to a local pub or picnic in the smashing West Sussex countryside and then
(badgers permitting) two hours watching wild badgers going about their lives. Although there is no guarantee of
seeing a wild badger, last year Simon only failed on one evening to meet with his black and white friends. If
things go according to plan, the badgers could come within three metres of where you will sit.

the rest of the day at London Zoo including the new ‘Tiger Territory’ enclosure.

An exquisite cane rod made to order by Tim Harris for a private client. One piece, 4ft 9in, 2 wt. The rod looks
unused. It has a semi-parabolic action and the cane has been flame-treated giving a beautiful mahogany colour.
All the fittings are nickel silver, including the reel fitting. Whippings are Pearsall fly tying silk. The reel seat is
burr elm. The rod is featherlight and suitable for small stream fishing.
Supplied in the original bag and aluminium tube with brass caps.

inclusive. The Association has 30 miles of prime salmon, trout and sea-trout fishing on the River Teifi and the
quality of the sea-trout fishing attracts visitors from far and wide. Each year, sea-trout of between 12 and 18lbs are
caught. There are very good numbers of sea-trout up to 4lbs coming into the river between June and August, with
a few larger fish joining the salmon up to the season close in mid-October. Fishing by night with a fly is the best
method in clear water, with spinning the preferred method following a spate.

Bishopstoke. The beat is approximately 1000 yards long with 12 pools separated by shallower runs full of
ranunculus. The Itchen is best known for trout but does also have a significant run of Atlantic salmon. Salmon
numbers have recovered well following a total ‘catch & release’ policy on the river. The annual catch on this beat
is 60-85 salmon. A quarter of the run is multi-sea-winter fish, which arrive in April through to mid-May and are
10-20lb (two over 30lb in recent years). Mid-July sees the arrival of good numbers of grilse with the odd bigger
fish. Most fish are caught on a heavy nymph, shrimp or prawn.

S.Devon. A long day with 12 hours+ on the water, fishing the distant mid-channel 40-55 miles offshore for such
as cod, pollack and ling. Fishing this far offshore means that the fish are more numerous and much larger than the
more heavily fished inshore wrecks and there a real chance of catching cod to 30lb, pollack to 20lb and ling to

Best time for good numbers of cod is June –Sept, and winter fishing for pollack can be excellent. Date by

Yorkshire) for a day's fishing for grayling, brown trout, sea trout and/or salmon. You decide whether to try to go
for one of each, concentrate on wild brown trout during the mayfly, have a September day for grilse or a July
night for sea trout. Hosted by WTT Chairman, Edward Twiddy. Ability to wade deeply would be useful to fully
enjoy the rivers on offer.

A guided day of fly-fishing and entomology with Stuart Crofts on a beautiful and totally private area of the
Derbyshire Derwent, courtesy of the Waltonian Angling Club and in memory of their late Chairman Mr Ian
Mallender.
To be taken on Tuesday 9 September 2014.
This is very special; Stuart has been a member of the club and fished this water since 2001. There are no day
permits or guest tickets available here so the only way you would normally get to fish here is by joining the
Waltonian Angling Club. September is a great time to fish the river and you will get plenty of time to look at the
entomology with Stuart and then match the hatch to try and deceive the wild and wily fish. You will need chest
waders for this river but Stuart can supply all the other equipment if required.

The river Guash is a fairly narrow river , so light tackle is recommended, no more than a 4wt outfit. Wading is not
permitted. All wild trout up to 3lbs. Best early season late April too no later than the end of June.
