Cellist Stephen Isserlis with pianist Stephen Hough, 92nd Street Y, Tues., March 15th, 8pm “An inspired duo, perfectly balance musically.” - The Guardian Individually, cellist Steven Isserlis and pianist/composer Stephen Hough are sublime. Together they make one of classical music’s foremost duos. They bring a program that is centered on Romantic masterpieces for cello and piano, from Bohemia’s Dvořák to Norway’s Grieg. They also bring some wistful Schubert that was originally written for an “arpeggione,” a melding of cello and guitar that was a fad in the 1820s (Steven will play it on his 1727 Stradivarius.) Plus, Stephen will demonstrate his composing skills with a Cello Sonata he wrote specifically for his friend.
