S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID. The most powerful form of motivation: Efficiency. A new benchmark is once again being set by technological pioneer Mercedes-Benz, in the form of the S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID. It melds superb comfort, outstanding driving dynamics and a sustainable drive concept in impressive style. The S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID combines a powerful 3.0-litre V6 combustion engine and an electric motor with an externally chargeable lithium-ion high-voltage battery. Controlled by an intelligent operating strategy and with a fuel consumption of less than 3 litres per 100 kilometres it heralds a new era for Mercedes-Benz. Innovation in numbers: Eight. Four. Zero. The S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID offers impressively dynamic performance on a par with that of an 8-cylinder engine, together with the low fuel consumption of a 4-cylinder engine, delivered by a combined system output of 325 kW. When operating purely in electric mode, the vehicle offers an impressive figure for its local emissions of 0 g CO2/km. 1 The intelligent operating strategy ensures in particular that all possibilities for generating energy are exploited during driving operations. Every braking phase provides an energy boost, while the combustion engine is deactivated during overrun phases. Functions such as radarbased recuperation, the anticipatory and route-dependent operating strategy and the four different modes ensure an overall energy performance that is second to none. 1. Lithium-ion high-voltage battery. 2. Electric motor. 3. Recuperative braking system. 4. 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. This has an output of 8.7 kWh and gives a range of up to 33 km in electric-only driving mode. The PLUG-IN HYBRID technology allows fast external charging from 20 to 100%* via a wallbox in just two hours and via a normal domestic socket in not much more than four hours. Putting 85 kW at your disposal. Together with the 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine a total output of 325 kW is achieved, with maximum torque of 650 Nm and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 s. With the electric motor alone it is possible to reach a top speed of 140 km/h. Technology from the world of Formula 1. The principle: energy recuperation and thus an extended range for the electric drive system. The system ensures that braking energy is stored for use during acceleration or for a later all-electric driving phase. The V6 engine delivers 245 kW, offers maximum torque of 480 Nm and allows a top speed of 250 km/h. In conjunction with the 85 kW and 340 Nm pro vided by the electric motor, it is possible to achieve a combined fuel consumption of just 2.8 l/100 km and combined CO2 emissions of 65 g/km. * Charging time 20–100% ranges according to the power source from 1,9 to 4.1 h. Optional extras and accessories will generally increase this figure and reduce the payload capacity accordingly. 1 2 Further technical data may be found at www.mercedes-benz.com As you would expect from an S-Class. The S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID offers a unique level of comfort in high-class, spacious surroundings. Further individualisation is also possible with a range of exclusive special equipment options such as the ENERGIZING massage function, including hot-stone massage, or the AIR-BALANCE package. The most luxurious way to drive efficiently. Intuitive operating convenience: the operating and driving modes of the S500 PLUG-IN HYBRID can be conveniently controlled via two separate switches in the centre console. And thanks to Mercedes connect me and the Remote Online Services* you can also use your smartphone to check the charge level and range of the battery, to locate charging points or to activate the pre-entry climate control system in order to bring the interior temperature of the vehicle to the pre-set level. Similarly convenient: in the particularly efficient Economy+ mode, a resistance point met by the haptic accelerator pedal provides precise feedback on the switch-on point of the combustion engine. This is how helpful a luxury saloon can be. At least when it’s a Mercedes-Benz. * Remote Online is free of charge for the first three years from initial registration of the vehicle as standard for PLUG-IN vehicles (Electric Drive and PLUG-IN HYBRID). The range of functions may vary from country to country and will not be available in all countries to coincide with the start of sales. Take-back of end-of-life vehicles. At the end of its long life, you can return your S-Class to us for environment-friendly disposal in accordance with the European Union (EU) End-Of-Life Vehicle Directive. But that day lies a long way off. A network of vehicle take-back depots and dismantlers has been established to make it as easy as possible for you to return your vehicle. You can leave it at any of these points free of charge and, by doing so, make an important contribution to completing the recycling process and conserving resources. For further information about the recycling and disposal of end-of-life vehicles, and the take-back conditions, please visit the national Mercedes-Benz website for your country.
