The first of our Tāmaki Business Breakfasts will be held on Thursday 27 March with our guest speaker, Rick Walden. Rick is Auckland Transport, General Manager City Centre Integration Group. Rick will give an overview on the impact that AMETI (the new road, bus ways and rail station) will have on the Tāmaki business growth. We are keen that you attend as over the past few weeks we have been collecting contact details from as many businesses as possible in the area from Felton Mathew Ave in the north to our town centre in the south with the aim to connect and strengthen business ties throughout the Tāmaki area. To take a first-hand look at the changes to New Lynn since the opening of its rail station just a little over 3 years ago, Leon Matthews, Chair of the PBA, Lisa and I caught the train from our beautiful new rail station and met up with Greg Horne the AMETI Stakeholder Liaison Officer in New Lynn town centre. Greg had worked on the New Lynn project before AMETI was started so he was able to talk about the problems encountered and high light the changes that occur around these types of developments. New Lynn is one of the Auckland regions Metropolitan Centres which allows buildings to be built up to 18 storeys high and a building has already been started under these guidelines. On the ground floors is a comprehensive medical centre, above two levels of parking, although from the outside of the building these levels are well disguised, and above are 10 levels of double glazed apartments of which 90% have already been sold. The Unitary Plan allows for buildings from 4 - 6 storeys in and around the Panmure township. continued Page 5 NEWSLETTER 114 Chris Sutton and Leon Matthews, Panmure Business Association President, about to leave for New Lynn Development in New Lynn Opening of the Panmure Station - 19 January Dawn Blessing conducted by local Kaumatua from the local Mona Whenua kkkkkkkkkkkk Mayor Len Brown has help from officials and local children, Rosa Caird and Jalen Watere, to cut the ribbon and declare the Panmure Train Station open. Taoa has been looking after our businesses for 12 years. Please don’t hesitate to talk to Taoa about any security advice. Taoa is also a Minister of the Congregational Church of Niue. Welcome to the New Year and the challenges of 2014 Vehicles broken in to. Two vehicles have been broken in to this year. The first vehicle the owner decided not to make a Police Report. This means our valuable time spent investigating the break-in was wasted along with Police time who had begun to take action on our daily reports. Footage showed youth offenders in the vicinity so it was particularly disappointing not being in a position to follow it through. The second vehicle appeared to be an opportunist who attempted to break-in to a vehicle in the Pleasant View Road car park. Fortunately the thief was unable to drive the vehicle way but not without doing some damage. Please remember to hide all valuables and do report all criminal activity to the Police. Food stolen without payment being made. Quick thinking by one of our food venues enabled us to assist the Police in identifying two adults who removed food from a food outlet without paying. The girls wrote down the vehicle number of the car they drove way in and we were able to match this with cctv camera footage. This is a perfect example of how working together as a Community can assist in solving crimes. Fakaue lahi Taoa Folekene Town Centre Manager’s Report continued Submissions to the Proposed Unitary Plan and the Draft Auckland Plan have been completed and you are most welcome to email me chris@panmure.net.nz to obtain a copy. Submissions for the Draft Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board Annual Plan are underway and a public workshop will be held on Wednesday 19 March at 6pm in the Local Board office next to the Panmure Library. A year ago, our town was being repeated targeted by a group of youths who tagged and vandalised both public and private property. With support from the Police, Child, Youth & Family, Panmure businesses who quickly reported any criminal incidents to us and an increased number of new CCTV cameras, we have seen a gradual decrease in tags and vandalism from this particular group. Out of all the problems that we dealt with last year came some positive gains 1) we have been allocated by the NZ Police two constables to assist with youth matters and 2) the Tāmaki Community Patrol caring for our community at night and send us fantastic reports after each weekend 3) Local Board and Tāmaki Community Patrol Member Josephine Bartley’s attempts to personally care for some of our misguided youth. Labour List MP, Carol Beaumont organised a visit to Panmure by Leader of the Opposition and MP for New Lynn, David Cunliffe. The aim was to meet with David to talk about the issues facing communities and local businesses in the area over a light lunch prepared by Dorothy Miles from Sugarcraft. Attendees to the lunch were from the PBA Board Members, Town Centre Managers from Glen Innes, Ellerslie and Onehunga, Chris and Peter from the East Auckland Home & Budget Service, as well as Liz, Alathea and Susan from Panmure, Glen Innes and Onehunga Citizens Advice Bureaus. After David was interviewed by TV3 News he visited with Jenny Wang from the Chinese New Settlers Services Trust to take a look at their two exiting new projects they have planned for 2014/15 and later called in for a beer at the RSA. Locations co-ordinator, Victoria, and myself spent some time liaising with our shop tenants and landlords about access, set requirements and filming times. A big thank you goes to all the people who so generously hunted down keys, provided power and sacrificed their car parks for a week. During the week the set was installed and the filming completed on the Sunday. I visited the set several times to watch the actors and see some of the action. Whilst I was there in the afternoon I recognised Idol Drent who used to play the role of Daniel Potts in Shortland Street. Victoria will keep us posted on progress and we will let you know when you can see your town on television!
